  1. When I hear "elbow," I reflexively think "finished." When I hear shoulder, I reflexively think finished. When I hear elbow, I reflexively think setback. I'm looking forward to reading about Ben Diggins pitching toward the end of the year.
  2. His left shoulder. He was warming up before.
  3. I don't mean to speak for John but I think its pretty clear he said through 6, through the time Wes should have been in there. That's 4 runs in 6 innings. He was sent out in the 7th because Ned was trying to draw to an inside straight due to a shortage in the bullpen. Wes kept the Brewers in the game and to that extent the performance was acceptable to me also. John didn't make any reference to Wes' prior performances or season ERA, he was referring to last night nights performance. Acceptable isn't a very strong endorsement and doesn't necessarily even mean OK, it just kept the Brewers in the game. And I don't think it's sad Brewer fans with a realistic understanding of where the Brewers are in the rebuilding process accept this. These things were expected going into the season. Sure it's frustrating and noone will be happy with it long term, but this year it's to be expected.
  4. explain please. It's a joke son, it's a joke.
  5. Franklin is a bad pitcher. Kinney is a bad pitcher. Obermueller is a bad pitcher. I'd amend that to Franklin is a bad starter, Kinney is a bad starter, Obermueller has been pitching badly as a starter. Early returns indicate Franklin may be a passable reliever especially against lefties in a park with a cavernous RF. We're about to find out about Matt as a reliever though as a fly ball pitcher and with his record with big innings and not being able to get out of jams I have serious doubts. As for Wes, with an option remaining, I'd like to see him sent to Indy when Capuano returns for some regular work. As a decent GB pitcher he still could be salvageable as a 4-5. I really don't care if they have to use Santos or Wise or Ben Ford or Phelps or Hernandez in the rotation this year. I think one last chance to salvage Wes for 2005 and on needs to be tried.
  6. Getting tired of Keith's girl arm.http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/wink.gif He makes that play coming in a lot quicker than Wes.
  7. Just hope DM has more patience than what's being demonstrated here by some. No Ben H. before July if I had my way. All we have to fear is fear(and panic) itself. The future is not now.
  8. I wouldn't trust anything on EZBoard right now including stats, times or baseballs(new posts).
  9. rlu, Not only was the game situation different, different pitchers were involved. Kinney has had a full year in MLB, is out of options and has had his mental toughness questioned in the past. If he doesn't cut it, he would have to be released or exposed to waivers so he needs to be tested. Wes O. took up pitching late, has options left and the mental side of his game hasn't been questioned. Bennett's a young rule 5 guy. At this point these guys need positive confidence building experiences. I would think Sheets, Davis and Kinney need to be tested this year and Capuano and Obie handled differently. Do you really want a one size fits all handling of situations regardless of game situation and players involved? Through the whole devasted Spivey quote thing you demonstrated a certain lack of flexibility and adaptability in your thinking so I guess I understand where this is coming from.
  10. Not MB, but yes it does. Find OBP here: http://www.brewerfan.net/help/index.html under the stats glossary
  11. Even with the current roster, I am looking forward to spring training. Why? I am interested to see if players like Weeks, Hardy, Martinez, Krynzel, Hendrickson, etc. get a "real" shot to make the club. Spring training is a small sample and often against other teams AAA, AA and even A ball players. Even if some do well, I'd like to see them in AAA until June to see if they're truly ready and to reduce the chance they'll be super-twos. I don't want to see the Brewers slip record-wise next year and would be really happy with another 10-12 win improvement but in the big picture 2004 doesn't mean much. I can wait till June. Luis may be a possible exception since he's had AAA time already.
  12. I recall he slid feet first on his SB in the futures game. Surprised me.
  13. Another Brewer win in a Franklin start. Wayne sure is great. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/wink.gif
  14. Why all the interest on this board, and its not just Clancy, of taking good hitting infielders and making them poor hitting outfielders? Not just Hall and Ginter, but also Weeks. Do you really think Weeks would ultimately peak as a poor hitting OF? Unlike Clancy I don't have Hall inked in at high numbers or any numbers at all. He had a poor year in AAA at 22, quite young, and most gave up on him. He was up last Sept. in a desperate, ill-advised attempt to showcase the future and save someone's job and looked bad offensively and defensively. He made significant progress at Indy this year and I see a significant difference watching him this year since he's been up, offensively that is. I'm not sure what is telling everyone that this progress absolutely can't continue. I'm not saying it will, but I'm also not giving up or setting a ceiling on a young player who is still making progress. What the Brewer's need next year is incremental improvement at several positions, primarily SP. I don't want any high priced free agents, but whatever reasonably priced for value acquisitions can be made I'd rather see them at SP. And I'd like to see if Hall can provide the incremental upgrade in RF. I don't like using young players as bridges at positions they're not showing growth in defensively.
  15. Seems to me all his games at SS in Indy this year were at the beginning of the season. His improvement with the bat coincided with his permanent move to 2B, with some experimenting in CF. Could have just been a coincidence. From the results in Milw. it doesn't seem SS is his position, sort of unfair since he hadn't played it for a couple months, and no one thinks its a long term position for him: JJ. With Ginter/Weeks doesn't seem 2B is a long term position for him either. Posters here may be willing to accept his defensive deficiencies next year at SS but can Bill Hall. Players, especially young ones, can take defensive problems to the plate with them or try to make up for errors and wind up changing their approach at the plate. Not knowing all the facts, I would propose trying him in RF from the beginning of spring training. He's got some pop and the arm it seems. Some have put a utility ceiling on him already at age 23/24 but I haven't. No one can use the peaked argument on a 23 year old and his power could still increase. He hasn't walked much but he's been taking pitches to right and up the middle, not just trying to pull everything. I don't like seeing him hit 8th. With the pitcher behind him it could be altering his approach re: walks. Perhaps a full year with Butch will help him. I think he could be a cheap upgrade over VDW/Clark/Conti/Zocco in RF. It would mean trying to find another cheap bridge SS for 2004 with more offensive upside than Royce.
  16. And why did the Brewers wait so long to pitch Greg Bruso, anyway? Perhaps because he's over 160 innings for the year after having gone only 81 IP + college innings last year and his Aug. 13 appearance was a 9 inning complete game.
  17. The GM is the one who supplies the manager with players to manage. Normally the GM and manager would consult and come to a consensus. But there's no way Yost could make such a decision on his own whereas Melvin could. You're aiming at the wrong target.
  18. To answer my own question, doesn't seem to be a problem. Nelson had to be in AA by Aug. 1 which he was.
  19. Yeah, I thought Drew stated 2005 would be his last option year. Anything preventing Weeks going to AFL now that Nelson's in AA?
  20. Nance also pitched well, once again, in AAA. I find it funny Ned said, "Well, he wasn't getting a chance to pitch here", as if it's a chance thing. Set your guys up to fail... If memory serves, Nance was used twice in significant game situations after being recalled. The first time he gave up an important home run as I recall. The second time he walked the bases loaded or close to it. That second time he also appeared flustered on the mound ala Ford. It's just one game but by contrast last night after giving up the 3 runs, Obermueller didn't have the deer in the headlights look and went back to getting guys out. I'm not giving up on Nance, he seems to have decent stuff, but you can make mistake pitches and walk guys in AAA and get away with it alot more than in the majors. Davis should be called up to replace Burba. Dave has no place with a young team. His only job was to be an emergency starter, and that's done now. Move on. I'm hopeful that there will be some activity in the next 5 days that will open some slots. But with only 2/5s of a consistent starting staff right now (Kinney having struggled lately), if you're going to have a guy sitting around not getting much work waiting to go 5 or 6 innings after a bad start from Kinney, Rusch or Obermueller, I'd rather it be an old guy like Burba.
  21. You can't occupy two 'positions' at the same time, DH and pitcher. So he moves from DH to pitcher and when he's removed for Estrella, he's out of the game and Estrella would have to bat.
  22. Don't you think it would be possible for us to spend some of that difference on a couple free agent pitchers and maybe a decent OF who could each be 5-10 games over .500 for the Brewers? If the Brewers win 65-70 games this year, that won't be enough to erase the notion that Milwaukee is a bad, losing place to play. Next winter they're still going to have to overpay to get worthwhile FA talent. Given the current state of the NL central, a team with 87 to 90 wins would be right in the thick of it. I'd rather aim to be Seattle or Atlanta than aiming to be Houston, St. Louis or the Cubs, even if it takes 2 or 3 years longer. I'd rather the Brewers not squander money or prospects trying to be 'in the thick of it'.
  23. Is Prior just throwing that good? Brewers just hacking? Big strikezone?
  24. I'm following on the net and I'm assuming Yost didn't have the infield in with no outs in the 4th. I'm glad he's learning his lesson on that. Let me know if my assumption is wrong.
