  1. Weak. Having just replayed the Counsell bunt again I think the change is correct. Counsell didn't show bunt early as in a sacrifice, never squared around totally and was obviously bunting for a base hit. It was a very difficult play for the 3B and the throw was high and wide but not overthrown. Lee could have gotten it if he'd come off the bag in which case it would have been ruled a hit. The error allowed Pods to score and Counsell to take 2nd but given subsequent events they would have scored anyway. But the scorer should have been able to make the correct decision after one replay.
  2. Don't the Scrubs play any day games?http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/laugh.gif Doesn't the sun shine in Chicago? http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/mad.gif

  4. Gotta think bigger than that! http://www.ci.somerville.ma.us/community_cityservices/images/sweeper.jpg SWEEEEEEEEEEEEP!!!!!!
  5. Not sure if you're serious or not but the idea is that games already lost are lost forever whereas games not played can be wins.
  6. Ben and Corey are all-stars(it's a pdf file): http://www.redwingsbaseball.com/internationalleague/04ILAllStarTeam.PDF
  7. Because of the off-season events/discontent there's a small season ticket and advance individual and group sales base. Attendance will be very up and down with the unattractive dates and opponents still very low.
  8. So Counsell was able to score becuase of the error by Jones, yet it's still considered an earned run on Santana's line? C Counsell hit for V Santos. -Bottom of the 3rd inning -C Counsell tripled to deep center, C Counsell scored on error by right fielder J Jones. -S Podsednik struck out swinging. -J Spivey flied out to center. -G Jenkins grounded out to second. No run shall be earned when the runner's advance is aided by an error, a passed ball, or defensive interference or obstruction, if the scorer judges that the run would not have scored without the aid of such misplay. I don't recall if this was Spivey's fly out to deep center but if so Counsell would have scored on it. That's the only way it could be an earned run.
  9. Craig didn't start, he PH for Santos. Hunter dove sideways in RC for the ball, it got by him to the wall, Jones backed it up but dropped the ball about 4 times trying to pick it up and Craig made it all the way around.
  10. Short term memory is the first to go. The peak in 2001 was June 24 before the sweep suits: http://baseball.espn.go.com/mlbhist/teams/schedule?team=mil&season=2001&seasonType=2&half=1
  11. In the post-1992 era, it seems like the Brewers have had stretches of being above .500, but as soon as they drop a game under, the floodgates open and suddenly they're 10 games under. Good, consistent pitching is what stop those kinds of things from happening. With Sheets and Davis excelling and the rest of the starters at least keeping the team in games and with the bullpen improvement, there's a fighting chance that that kind of thing won't happen this year.
  12. Then, when you used the term 'totally botched' you must have assumed the primary goal was to get Brooks an at bat. Considering the Brewers were ahead, I think the primary goal was and should have been to hold the Pads in the 8th and get the game to Kolb. You also seem to be assuming Ned knew in advance how long the inning would last. There's a difference between a pitcher who's already pitched several innings of live ball and a relief pitcher coming in fresh as to how they handle the inactivity. There's also a reason why pitchers sometimes do have difficulty after their team has a long inning. Pitchers do 'cool down' or stiffen up and 8 warmup pitches isn't always enough. You often see pitchers who are warm and just standing around start throwing again if the inning goes longer. So yeah, I do think Brooks' primary purpose this year is relevant to Ned's decisions on how he uses him.
  13. Once a pitcher's warmed up, if the inning continues they soft toss every once in a while to stay loose. If the inning continues because he's on base or if he's in the dugout he doesn't have that opportunity. He's being used as a pitcher first, again in tight situations, and I don't think Ned 'botched' anything.
  14. Bill, Brooks isn't a magician, he can't be warming up in the bullpen and batting or on base at the same time. He made the team this year as a pitcher, his hitting is gravy. He's being used in close and late situations this year and needs the same preparation for an appearance as any other reliever. He really doesn't have a rubber arm. I think Ned's done well making the double switch at the same time as bringing in Brooks and allowing for the chance Brooks can hit the next inning.
  15. There's no room on the 40 man to bring anyone other than Hart up since Ben Ford pulled a Quevedo and said he was injured. My belief is they were going to DFA him when he pulled that. Once that situation clears or if Helms goes on the 60 day DL they can send Corey down and bring someone else up.
  16. Hey Mike, Maybe I missed it but I haven't seen a post with your opinion of the bottom of the 9th friday. What's your take on not using the lefties? And it's hard to tell sarcasm when a post is in line with previous posts.
  17. This is my first negative post about Ned though I have disagreed with moves more than a few times previously but that 9th was utterly STUPID.
  18. Does this qualify as a pitchers duel yet? These days most definitely. In the era of the unis, not yet.
  19. So has anyone been more uncomfortable standing in a batter's box than Santos? Luis Martinez
  20. Santos and Hall have got the fit just right too.
  21. You mean Boston Braves unis? These are the 50s-60s unis. The Braves went back to them in the 90s.
  22. Ned on the radio this morning said Junior's hammy was still a little tight and they'll wait a couple more days to be safe.
  23. Is there a link buried in this thread somewhere? Does anyone know which shoulder?
  24. cut him now... that guy BLOWS! perfect throw and our idiot catcher misses the throw... if we lose by a run its ALL BENNETT's FAULT and he should be cut.... Have you ever played or even played catch? Those in-between hops are the toughest for any fielder at any position.
