  2. The way Arcia managed to dance around the tag on his 7th inning double was pretty cool.
  3. The majority of MLB teams could use a talent like Puig yet zero of them, outside of the Brewers, put in a claim and tried to acquire him. All we know from the tweet (provided that it's correct in the first place) is that Puig was passed on by National League teams with records worse than Milwaukee's on whatever day the Brewers "won" the claim. We can't assume that teams in the AL or NL teams with better records than the Brewers didn't make claims.
  4. Back then, the NL and AL were really two separate leagues, each trying to get into markets ahead of the other. Yeah, they fought over Toronto circa 1976. When the NL lost that battle, they decided not to expand at all. The AL was forced to expand due to the Pilots leaving, similar to the situation in Kansas City during the previous expansion. It's interesting that Seattle didn't care when they first got the Pilots, but they definitely cared when the team left.
  5. I believe that expansion was originally supposed to occur in 1971. It was moved up to avoid a court case in Missouri. As Jim says, the Pilots and the city of Seattle weren't ready. Additionally, Seattle didn't ask for the team in the first place. The American League simply decided to go there. That meant that there wasn't much help from either the public or private sector.
  6. Parking for this game is going to be tougher than it is for a typical Packers game. Lots that are typically open will be used for special events. Also expect a couple of street closures. I wouldn't overthink this. Park when you see something semi-attractive, and walk from there. Worry about how you're going to leave when it's time to go. Last year, we tried to beat traffic after a Packer's game, and it just wasn't worth it. We ended up taking a long circuitous route around town. We'd have been better off going with the crowd. Do familiarize yourself with your options ahead of time, though. Cellular and data availability might be spotty due to the large number of people. When we wanted to fire up Maps after the game, we had trouble making connections on both AT&T and Verizon. Limited parking at Lambeau Field for UW-LSU

  8. Well, it depends on how you define ready. I'd submit that not needing a significant innings limitation is part of being ready. As of now, Hader still needs to have his innings limited for the foreseeable future, although one would think that he might have "room" to extend his 2016 innings total a bit this year on the Major League club.

  10. A few weeks ago, Counsell said that he was playing Nieuwenhuis because he gave the team "the best chance to win." Whether or not that's a correct assessment is debatable, but that was the motivation. David and Craig talk a lot. You'd have to think they're on the same page on things like the starting lineup. It's the in-game stuff that would have to be left completely up to Craig.
  11. Nice baserunning by both Garza and Villar. The sky must be falling.
  12. You can generally assume that most players will have cleared waivers. So the pertinent question would be if anyone didn't clear.
  13. They don't have to be designated for assignment. But they do have to clear outright waivers, which are irrevocable. DFA is simply a way for a team to remove a player from the roster while it figures out what to do with him.

  16. Again, I'm talking about rush hour type traffic. If you are in the left lane and keeping up with the car in front of you, why do you need to be concerned about the car in back of you (since you can't go any faster than you are already going)? Now that they are re-constructing the freeways and interchanges with no left hand exits, there is really no need to be in the left lane during heavy traffic unless you plan on keeping up with the pace of the other traffic traveling in that lane. In regards to having to slow down to move over, many times I see people doing this when really they should just accelerate a little bit to move over. Also, are you saying that you are worried than when you "slow down" the person behind you will hit you? You don't need to put on your breaks to slow down and even if for some reason you do, the person behind you would have to be a really really inept driver to hit you because you slowed down to change lanes. OK, I see why we're thinking differently. I wasn't necessarily thinking about rush hour. I was thinking more in terms of when there's enough traffic to populate all the lanes while the pace is at or above the speed limit. Examples would be on weekends between Milwaukee and Madison or every day between Milwaukee and Chicago. In those cases, the issues are slow vehicles in the left lanes or individual drivers who feel that the 85th percentile speed (which is generally above the posted speed) isn't good enough. In rush hour, you're generally below the posted speed limit. You want to go as fast as you can while respecting things like following distance, general safety, and the needs of other drivers. If your objective is to hopefully move to a faster lane, there should be no need to slow down to do it. If you feel compelled to move to a slower lane (even though you'd rather not), you might have to decide to slow down to pull off the lane change. This happens on weekend drives to Madison when the left lane is rolling along at 75[space][/space]mph, the right lane is moving at 60–65, and suddenly, someone barrels up from behind wanting to go 80-plus.
  17. Initially posted in "What's bugging you? (2015–16)" This is a good point to switch topics. Here are a couple of videos of the Snopek band that existed in the late 1970s and early 1980s. They were posted about three weeks ago by Byron Wiemann, the band's lead guitarist. Both videos are from 1980. That's discernible from content within them ([cite]First Band On the Moon[/cite] about to be released, part of "reëlect Jimmy Carter ad). In the time between the videos, the band switched bass players (Jim Gorton to Bret Tuveson). Mike Lucas is on drums. And of course, Sigmund Snopek is on keyboards. On Madison television singing [cite]Avenue Motion[/cite]; [cite]If You Love Me, Kill Yourself[/cite]; [cite]Radio Hearts[/cite]; [cite]New York Jumpers[/cite]; and the beginning of [cite]Armpit Shuffle[/cite]: On Milwaukee television singing [cite]Let’s Take a Trip[/cite] (along with an interview by Rosemary Gernetzke): The quote in my signature comes from the version of [cite]Thank God This Isn't Cleveland[/cite] on Sig's 1998 [cite]Sigmund Snopek's Beer[/cite] album. This version of [cite]Cleveland[/cite] was recorded with Victor DeLorenzo (Violent Femmes). The song was initially performed and recorded in the 1980s. The newer version reflects the fact that the Cleveland Indians made the World Series while the Brewers sucked. It also mentions the cryptosporidium outbreak that occurred here. Well they might be in first place, And we might be in last, And when you drink our water, It comes right out of your ass… Moving away from the music, here's Sig after catching a foul ball at County Stadium. Ernie Harwell is announcing:
  18. In that situation, in my opinion, the general rule is to just keep up with the car in front of you. I think I'd be more concerned about the cars behind me. If they're creeping up on me, I'd have to choose between bumping up my speed or moving over. Moving over could involve slowing down before making the lane change, though, and may not be a good immediate option. One of the cars in the line decides it want to skip places in the line of cars and zooms up the middle lane in order to get ahead a whole 3 or 4 cars (basically weaving). The bottom line is that the weaver doesn't gain anything. When traffic is heavier, it gets slower. It's best to accept that. I don't really agree with the 2nd statement. If traffic is lighter and a car wants to go 90, get out of their way. What annoys me on the open free-way with light traffic is when cars don't maintain a constant speed. Cruise control is a pretty standard option now on most cars, yet some people seem to have no idea when or how to use it. I was picturing a heavier traffic scenario. In lighter traffic, there'd be options available. It's generally not a problem to move over for the speed-demon — if he gives me a chance to signal and do it. Otherwise, if he blows by me on the right before I have a chance to react and move over, I can accept that. People that vary speeds are really frustrating. Yep. It’s annoying to move past a car, have it move past me a few minutes later, then rinse and repeat — all while my cruise control is operating at a consistent speed. Additionally, constantly changing speeds wastes gas. I admit I don't understand or like roundabouts. They are relatively new and unless you go to a larger city you may never encounter one. I usually drive really slow and read the signs carefully which is somewhat dangerous. You have to know where you intend to exit and that isn't always easy to figure out. Go to Mount Horeb to find roundabouts in a smaller city. There are about eight of them (give or take) between the US-18/151 ramp and the point where you the center of town. As reilly says, the intent is to keep traffic moving, and most of the time, they accomplish that goal. Now that they’re a way of life, I see intersections that scream for them. Most of the time, these intersections have four-way stop signs. I’ve also seen a handful of cases where it probably would have been better to stick with well-programmed traffic signals. I would much rather have timed traffic lights. Taking this in a different direction, I hate traffic signals that force people to wait at an intersection where there’s no cross-traffic. On the other hand, I love it when a traffic signal has sensors that recognize this and changes according to the situation.

  20. Bench coach Gene Lamont became the acting manager. That wouldn't necessarily mean that he manned the phone or the lineup card.
  21. I got behind one of those vehicles on the Lake Parkway a couple of days ago, and it was incredibly annoying. The speed limit is 50, and traffic was moving at about 55. The left lane vehicle was going about 47[space][/space]mph. In this situation, traffic enters the highway in both lanes. So within the first half mile to a mile, vehicles should make the appropriate adjustments. This one didn't bother. This always goes on between Milwaukee and Chicago, especially on the Wisconsin side of the line. With four lanes to choose from, I'm not sure how the slow traffic makes it all the way over to the left lane, but it does. Still, I think the statement "stay in the right lane unless you are passing" is overly simplistic. I don't think you want to change lanes every time you want to overtake a vehicle. That's about the same as weaving. And let's say that the speed limit is 70, you're in the left lane going about 74, and the cars ahead of you are going about 74. Are you obligated to move to the right lane and travel at 60 to accommodate someone from behind who wants to go 80? I'd think not, but in a handful of states, drivers are obligated to do that. Also, on many highways, all the lanes are needed to accommodate the number of cars who are using them. If everyone were in the right lane, the purpose of a multi-lane highway would be defeated.
  22. Yeah, super-two was out of the picture a long time ago. It only matters when a player has between two and three years of service. Before a player reaches that point, a team might want to reduce the player's chances of achieving that status. I agree with MNBrew. I don't see Wily as a non-tender at this point either. All teams need some starting pitchers who don't need innings limits. But whether or not the Brewers keep him, the question of eligibility for free agency is still relevant. It matters to whatever team he plays for. If the Brewers were to let him go, whoever signed him would still have those years of control.
