  1. I appears to me that Wily spent enough time in the minors to push back his free agency by a year. He started this season with 3 years, 33 days of service. Had he played 33 days short of a full season, he would have been on track to declare free agency after the 2018 season. This year, he spent 57 days in the minors (give or take a day). This season is 182 calendar days long, and 172 days of service is considered a full year in CBA terms. If you subtract 57 from 182, Wily would earn 125 days this year. That would give him 3 years, 158 days of service at the end of this year and make the end of the 2019 season the earliest possible date for free agent eligibility.
  2. At least now the fans there get to enjoy a crappy concert. I didn't stay for the "crappy" concert.
  3. Cravy's home run traveled 409 feet. It was his first Major League hit.
  4. We have both Keon and Domingo tonight. And Pérez is taking Villar's place at third.

  7. Dodgers have done the same with Kenta Maeda. The big difference is that Kenta and his agent were consulted first. And in this case, Kenta will be "down" for about two days before making his scheduled start on Monday. It's also possible that Kenta's contract might call for him to receive his full Major League pay during this brief "departure."
  8. Today's the 29th anniversary of the end of Paul Molitor's 39-game hit streak.

  11. At this point, my main concern is that Jeremy's OK and that things will work out for him.
  12. I remember when the Brewers were sold they had something like $100 million in debt, has that situation improved? Is it worse? It's just a wild guess, but after reading this year's Forbes stuff, my thought was that the Brewers might be about $50 million in debt. But as Mark Attanasio said earlier this season, some of the Forbes info is fairly accurate and some is pretty far off. Plus, I'm a total amateur at interpreting this stuff, and I could be way off. The big difference, though, is that in 2004, the Brewers had debt over $100 million on a team worth less than $200 million. Now, the team is estimated to be worth close to $900 million. That makes a few tens of millions of dollars of debt much less of a factor.

  20. Winter Leagues: About the Arizona Fall League | MLB.com The page above is no more than two years old, so I'd assume that we can call it current. There are six clubs in the league, with each club representing five Major League teams. Most participants Double-A and Triple-A players, but each club can opt to send one player considered a Class A player. A positional draft is held in August. I suppose that's to ensure that teams don't have an overabundance of players at a single position. I'm not finding much on the Instructional League, but here's its Wikipedia page: Arizona Instructional League (Wikipedia) It sounds like there are few restrictions and that just about anyone is eligible to go there. The general focus is younger guys, but an older player may go there to "rehabilitate from an injury, to learn a new position or to refine a particular skill."
  21. Does the 10 day rule still apply once we hit September 1st? I don't think it does. If my memory serves me, I believe teams have optioned player on August 31 and "called them back up" the next day.

  23. I'm not totally familiar with how they'll be transmitting the internet now that they're bundled? I'm sure that you'll get AT&T Internet through the phone line. The purpose of the bundle is to be able to offer TV in areas where U-verse doesn't reach. Satellite Internet is expensive, and the last I heard, Internet through DirecTV had data caps. Reaching your cap would cause you to get throttled for X number of days, and there was way to pay more to get around it.

  25. Robin will be 61 next month. Downsizing at that age is pretty common. I personally wouldn't want to auction off the 3,000 bat and ball, but people don't always have the same emotional attachment to things like that as others.
