  1. North/south isn't really the issue. It's the climate. Atlanta and San Diego are at latitudes similar to Arlington. Atlanta isn't as hot as Dallas, and San Diego is generally quite comfortable. Of course, the Marlins will have a retractable roof in the near future. Attendance in Texas hasn't been earth-shattering (about 27,000 per game over the past five years), but it's hardly a negative, either. As far as climate, having all games at night during the summer months seems to address that. From purely a fan standpoint, I don't think anything noticeable will happen. There'll be a Rangers team in Arlington now, and there'll be a Rangers team in Arlington in the future. From a business standpoint, however, it'll be interesting to see how this all plays out.
  2. First, I was reading the Brewerfan charts wrong. Having read them for years, I should have known better. http://images.yuku.com/image/gif/dc33563353a14a575ba94c440bef6fdb3266a35.gif Chris would have originally been eligible for free agency after 2009 had his career not been interrupted. Upon further review, Chris was on the major league roster in 2008, so he'd have full credit for that year. But I don't believe he was on it at all in 2009. That would delay his eligibility for free agency a year. This year, he was called up on May 29. If you assume that he finishes the year with the Brewers and you combine four months of 2010 with the time he spent with the Diamondbacks in 2003, I'd bet on him being eligible for free agency.
  3. Right, but by virtue of being eligible for free agency, he'd have the right to decline the arby offer.
  4. There doesn't seem to be data on Chris on any of the contract sites, including Brewerfan's current salary page. I'd bet on Chris being eligible for free agency. However, given that Brewerfan's 2007 salary page indicates that he's eligible for free agency after this season, it's possible that some of the time he spent in the minors could have delayed that eligibility.
  5. Can we assume that 83 is the number that Rickie would have to beat to break the National League record? By the way, Rickie has already broken Paul Molitor's record for home runs by a Brewer leadoff hitter.
  6. I added "National League" to the topic title. That'll make it clear that there's room for a separate American League topic should anyone want to start one. Also, I've added this topic to the Designated Threads List. That way, we can use this thread to follow the race through the time the vote is announced.
  7. Discussion of the suspensions is going on in the We're getting HBP too often topic. I'll edit the title of that thread to make it clearer. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif
  8. This station ID thing needs to go away quickly: We areFox Sports! We areWisconsin! It's really seriously annoying.
  9. If the word "ridicule" is an accurate description of what one finds in a newspaper, it doesn't seem likely that the newspaper is doing a professional job. Adding to what endaround and cc have said, presenting the run distribution stuff as anything other than "interesting" trivia is simply an attempt to create a story that isn't there.
  10. Now that you mention it, a full week of games after the All Star Break is what I recall.
  11. I believe Extra Innings is free on all services the first week of the season and through Sunday after the All Star Game.
  12. Someone really needs to check to see that Bud Selig's hair is in place before he goes on camera.
  13. I see no connection whatsoever. All I see is a juvenile personal attack.
  14. Keep in mind that e-mail addresses posted to public forums can be harvested by bots and can cause you to receive spam. This wouldn't be an issue when posting e-mail addresses in private forums, e.g. the Trading Post. I've replaced "@" with " AT " in some of the messages above.
  15. Maybe all you need is plastic sleeves; they can be purchased at any office supply store.
  16. You mean "still in all" (or is it "still and all"), don't you? http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/wink.gif "All in all" = "in the final analysis."
  17. Keep in mind they've been planning for this basically since Attanasio bought the team. It's not like he just decided last week to put this thing in just to keep discontent fans happy. Actually, plans were made for this scoreboard before the stadium even opened. if it's anything like the HD board at Chase Field, it'll get annoying real fast. Just too much information on the thing that it takes you a minute to read it all and then you've missed 2-3 pitches I think we're suffering from a lack of information. Before matrix and video boards existed, all out of town scores were generally available at all times, for instance. Now, when there's a break in the game and you have a chance to look at scoreboard information, it vanishes in favor of advertising and funky graphics. I noticed that the mockup shows SLG pct., which is kind of lacking now. (It briefly pops up on the left field scoreboard, then vanishes in favor of other information.) But it misses OBP, something we have now. I'm sure that's a function of the artist's work and that it'll be ironed out. Also, I'm wondering about this: 1080p or 1080i? http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif
  18. I ran across this tidbit posted by a Yuku staff member in a completely unrelated topic. I hope they're testing handhelds. WebKit browsers dominate the smartphone market. The only option for those right now is to choose the BBCode editor. As mentioned above, that option only works for posting messages on the boards; the BBCode editor isn't available for sending PMs or editing signatures.
  19. greeg35, start the next conversation with the idea of getting rid of the current wife and getting a new one. The compromise can be two Droids and keeping cable.
  20. I've removed the link to this topic from the board directory and forum pages, but that doesn't mean that the concerns are any different. Bottom line? A user can still log out and get back in without providing any credentials at all (no username, no OpenID url, no password). If one creates an account using credentials from one of these services, his/her username may be based on information provided by that other service, e.g. the user's real name or e-mail address.Because existing members already have accounts, they're unlikely to be affected. I'm concerned about new members, but I kind of doubt that they'd figure out the meaning of this topic anyway. When new members apply for membership with usernames that look like something they might not prefer, board admins will need to communicate with them via PM to ensure that they're using the handle they want.
  21. iPads can use keyboards. Apple makes one that physically docks to the unit. Otherwise, bluetooth keyboards will work.
  22. I like the idea of passing on your current notebook. If it has Vista, I'd make sure it's set up for Windows 7, though. It's more likely to behave than Vista. Also, pitchleague's participation in this topic reminds me to make sure your parents know that notebooks need to be placed on a hard service. I believe his parents ran into trouble by constantly having theirs set on a cloth placemat. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/wink.gif Actually, a "laptop" shouldn't even be run on a lap. Note that Apple refers to its "laptops" as "portables," and other companies call them "notebooks." At home, a "breakfast in bed" tray is nice. pitchleague, I can't speak from personal experience, but it's purported that because newer Macs have powerful graphics cards, they work well with Windows games.
  23. I like hawing's suggestion. If you like what you have, then get the same thing for your parents. It'll make helping them out much easier. Set them up with the maintenance, security, and backup programs that you prefer. One caveat with this suggestion is that you might be running Vista and they'll be running Windows 7, but any software provided by Acer is likely to be similar. Keep in mind that novices are very good at hogging system resources. I'd make sure they have 4 GB of RAM simply to avoid any frustration. Also, it'd be nice if the computer could handle a RAM upgrade beyond 4 GB if they hope to use it for a number of years. And do spend the $75 to $100 on a backup drive. And encourage your parents to keep it plugged in whenever it isn't grossly inconvenient to do so. Still, as others have mentioned, Macs are a whole lot simpler. The big difference is that security software doesn't need to be part of the learning curve. OS X's System Preferences is much simpler than Windows' Control Panel. It's even simpler for someone who's actually used to Windows' Control Panel. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif And basic operation (e.g. running programs) would be similar. Also, Apple's Multi-Touch trackpad is tons easier to use than anything in the Windows world. I wonder why PC manufacturers haven't come up with something similar. A Mac is fine with the stock 2 GB of RAM--unless you want to run Windows; then I'd recommend 4 GB.
  24. In northern Wisconsin, I think you'll find that Verizon generally reaches more places. That's former Alltel territory, and Alltel was very good at covering rural areas. AT&T has gotten better since they went with GSM, though. And there would certainly be pockets where AT&T trumps Verizon. In or near small towns, both should be fine. If you like to travel to a specific place (such as a cabin or favorite campground), I'd test and choose the provider that works better at that specific location.
