  1. The people who write WTMJ radio news copy must have attended the Anthony Witrado school of journalism. Recently, I heard an anchor say that a "bunch" of drugs were found. In another report, a man was referred to as a "guy." This is fine on the talk shows, but it's inappropriate on the news.
  2. If you happen to have a converted profile (yuck), you can access your notification settings this way: Hit the Account link in the old navigation bar or the wrench icon in the new navigation bar.Hit the Forum link at the top of the page.Hit the Subscriptions link in the second set of navigation links near the top of the page.I don't have any subscribed topics in my test profile, but I'd assume that removing is similar to what we'd do in the unconverted profiles.
  3. I just heard privately from the owner of another board that one of her members is still affected by this problem. Also, this member's PMs and images have become inaccessible.
  4. Thanks, battlekow. That was mentioned in one of the numerous topics at Support, and I failed to relay that suggestion. I've been keeping my notification settings page open in a tab and reloading it once in a while. This is the kind of bug that probably isn't the result of developer carelessness; I can see how it'd be difficult to catch in pre-push testing. The real key will be how Yuku handles fixing this. The login/PM problem was handled horribly. Rather than being provided with an explanation of the problem and periodic updates, the issue was trivialized by staff with patronizing and condescending posts.
  5. It'd definitely be something to watch for. But one also has to figure that these guys have to think on their feet. As fans, we have the chance to ask the person sitting next to us or do the figurative equivalent in the in-game chat; we do that all the time in the room. Of course, the way the message was framed ("Really, Brian?") seemed over the top; it made something that I'd view as trivial (at least in isolation) sound egregious. It's not in the same category as when Schroeder used to constantly say, "The American League doesn't steal a lot of bases."
  6. I tried editing a post and unchecking "subscribe to this topic" in the Bugs forum last night, but I still got six e-mail notifications for replies in that topic this morning. On member is reporting success by manually unsubscribing on his account subscriptions page. To do that, Hit the Account link in your navigation barHit the Subscriptions link link in the notifications box (top center column)Hitting the Remove button next to any topics to which you'd like to unsubscribeWhen I posted this topic, I remembered to uncheck "subscribe to this topic" right away when I posted the message. I didn't receive a notification when hawing posted above an hour ago.
  7. Yuku pushed some new code last night, and a side effect is that an unknown number of members are being subscribed to every topic they post to. battlekow and I are among those affected. The result is that these members will receive an e-mail notification of every new reply in these topics. If you're affected, you can stop notifications for a particular topic by unchecking "Subscribe to this topic" the next time you reply. I haven't tested this, but it might be possible that you could also accomplish this by editing an existing post and unchecking "subscribe to this topic." These notifications won't occur if you use Quick Reply. Staff is going to be looking into this first thing this (Thursday) morning. Of course, there's no way of knowing how soon a fix will come until someone takes a look and reports back.
  8. Staff has reported that this issue has been cleaned up, and affected members are corroborating that report.
  9. If errors like this were characteristic of a particular announcer, I think there'd be a legitimate complaint. In this case, I think I'd simply chalk it up as a simple "oops."
  10. I was also thrown for a loop until I read CheezWizHed's post. I've edited the full spelling of "Potawatomi" into the thread title to avoid further confusion.
  11. Based on reports at Yuku Support, this issue is still going on.
  12. Moved over here: 2010-05-09 Non-Brewers in-game thread: Dallas Braden is perfect
  13. How much ya wanna bet that Craig stumbles over at least one "Betty White Night" promo tonight?
  14. There's a Yuku bug going on that's preventing members from logging in and causing weird stuff to happen with PMs. Usernames are changing to various names with a .pavel extension, and when these members attempt to log in, they get a white page. If affected members already happen to be logged in, their PMs go out as whomever.pavel and display the avatar associated with these .pavel names. There's been no explanation as to why or how this happened. I think we're owed one, but we're not likely to get one. The only thing we know is whodunit; that's because Pavel is a staff member, and with all these profiles suddenly having random .pavel names, his name is plastered all over the support board. Ironically, whodunit is the only thing I don't care about. This issue is allegedly supposed to clear up by itself with time.
  15. do we have to get in a pi@@ing match It's fine to use "pissing" on the board. As a reminder, circumventing the cuss filter is against the rules. Preview your posts and let the filter be your guide.
  16. Sorry to hear about your job situation, NeedMoreFans. My gripe is all the bills that automatically come off of my credit card. The card reached its expiration date, and I received a new one. The company told me that any automated payments would continue. Yeah, right. A few days ago, I happened to call DirecTV about an unrelated issue. A recorded message played saying that my credit card had expired and that I needed to update my information. After that, I called the phone/internet and electric companies; it turned out they needed the updated expiration date, too. At that point, I figured that the credit card company could help out by giving me a list of all of my automated payments. Nope. All they could do is go through my statements and read stuff to me...nine bucks at the convenience store, twenty bucks for groceries, or whatever. I could have done that on my own. Anyway, the waste of time on the phone did come up with two other companies for me to call. Tonight, I thought of two more: the trash bill and the LP bill. I hope that's it. The good news is that so far, everyone's gotten paid on time. It would have been a bummer if I didn't happen to call DirecTV.
  17. Ya got that right. Honestly, I don't think the developers have any idea what might be wrong. And actually, I wouldn't be surprised if they don't even know it's happening. On a brighter note, we're hearing that the "replies out of order" bug might be fixed. The gurus stumbled on something that's supposed to address all time-related bugs (including posts not being marked as read).
  18. Team Teeter Totter?
  19. I believe that pre-game batting practice is more of a warm-up and that "skill work" is done at other times.
  20. It'll be interesting to see where this one goes: Page indicator wrong
  21. I like it, but batting Ryan #2 would seem to be too progressive for any manager in the majors right now. Who would you suggest hitting 5th if Casey is #3?
  22. For the past two days, I've been seeing the issue that IIR and TooLive reported. When a PM comes in, the navigation button doesn't turn blue, nor does the number of messages change from zero. As far as the issue posted earlier in this topic, staff considers it a low priority because lost messages are "old." I can't fathom how data loss can be considered low priority or how staff can pretend to know how important those lost messages might be, but that's what I've been told.
  23. Here's a brief blog entry about the plane: http://blog.seattlepi.com...news/archives/204289.asp
  24. Because we can't allow the distribution of copies of copyrighted material, you're going to have to deal with the owner of the copyright or do whatever the photographer's terms say. If it turns out that it's free to distribute, at that point, a member could burn this to a CD and send it to you or e-mail it to you as an attachment. If it's free, I'd also suggest that it could be posted at an image hosting service. However, the file size is likely to be reduced. For a poster, you'd want the full-size/full-quality image. Of course, prints that have complied with the photographer's licensing terms can properly be sold and traded here.
  25. Great article, Mayday2001. As an off topic mini-complaint, Luke Winn refers to "The Tonight Show with Johnny Carson." It's The Tonight Show Starring Johnny Carson. When Johnny retired, "starring" was changed to "with" because it was felt that nobody other than Johnny could be the star of the show. Carry on.
