  1. If you haven't done this already, you might want to disable the Meebo chat bar that appears on every page. Because it does a bunch of data mining, has very complex code, and fully reloads on every page, it can really slow things down. To kill it, Hit the Account link in the old navigation bar or the wrench icon in the new one.Scroll to the bottom of the page and uncheck "Enable chat bar...."Hit the Save Chat Settings button.
  2. As Russ pointed out, that is true of all managers. They are hired to be fired. That's for sure. Before Macha, the Brewers had fifteen managers, counting Bamberger twice and not counting McMillan (1972, 2 games) and Kuenn (1975, 1 game). Two of them (both Bamberger) left on their own accord. And before Melvin, the team had seven GMs. Jim Wilson was the only one that wasn't fired. He left to take a job with Major League Baseball. Kuenn.... the right guy at the right time. Let the guys play. His health problems pretty much ensured a short reign. Harvey was certainly a manager who was brought on because it was felt that a different personality was required. We still see that today. Had the team not been in the World Series, he probably would have been out after the 1982 season. I suppose Dalton found himself in a zim zam and felt forced to keep him on. Really, I think that since day one of Macha, we're playing at least 10 games below what we'd have with Yost. Assuming 10 games vs. 10 wins, I still think that's pretty extreme given the low regard for both managers. Even the statheads, who feel that the difference between top and bottom isn't that much, put Yost pretty low. Anyway, kind of like in the demoralized topic, I don't think "disdain" fits my feelings. "Frustration" would probably be more accurate. But as others have mentioned, so many managers stick to the same old tacks; I really can't count doing that against them. They really have to do some pretty extreme things to really get my goat.
  3. The tarp gets used quite a bit when there aren't games going on. The groundskeepers will protect the infield while leaving the rest of the field exposed to the elements. I think that's standard operating procedure in open air parks.
  4. Well, Cooper is certainly an All Star name. Congrats to Casey and Sarah.
  5. greeg35, that's definitely the #1 bug that our membership complains about. That and the other crap that came along with it... Hitting the last page number next to a thread title and landing on the second last pageMods seeing different reply numbers than non-modsAs I mentioned in the "don't convert" topic, this mess has been going on since August, 2008. Actually, any attention to the boards at all would be welcome at this point. We've seen precious little for close to two years. Even though staff is asking for help with this bug, I'm not really optimistic that anything will be done about it.
  6. Do people have to justify how they feel? If you feel demoralized, you can't be "wrong" can you? It's kind of nice to have a topic where everyone's right while still being an interesting read. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif
  7. Concerned? Sure. But it's way to early to be demoralized. That's pretty extreme.
  8. Thanks. I'll report it. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif
  9. Anyone else have DirecTV and NOT have the game? I'm seeing the game on channel 669 as usual.
  10. Thanks, Adam. Just to be clear, are you saying that you saw this message before you replied with this message?
  11. Why are there people on here totally dismissing the idea that Hoffman may be done. There are two topics in the Major League forum where people aren't dismissing the idea.
  12. Bob missed games due to knee surgery earlier this decade. During that time, Jim Powell was left pretty much on his own during games; I believe he had some pregame help, though. During one game, Harry Kalas took over for an inning or two. If I remember correctly, once Bob was recovered to a point, I believe Jim would talk to him on the phone for a while during games.
  13. Michaels worked with Wayne Larivee. I don't think Bill's skill set includes describing live action or working with another person. It's probably not fair to judge Larivee based on this one weekend. Speaking of Larivee, I also remember him doing a Brewers-Cubs game on television (from the wrong pressbox) earlier this decade.
  14. Dead arm doesn't necessarily mean dead player. We hear about dead arms all the time, frequently in spring training. Players recover from this routinely. I'm not suggesting that Trevor has a dead arm or that he's possibly done or not done or anything else. But I think it's fair that the idea is on the table for discussion.
  15. I think it was totally appropriate to attempt to start a new topic here, but I do smell a merger with the Let's talk Hoffman topic coming on. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif Focusing on Adam's lead (what Trevor might be doing that indicates a possible injury, e.g. pitch selection) would justify two topics. If this turns into a catch-all Hoffman topic, a mod will likely merge the two threads.
  16. I had a chance to try out a couple of sets side by side without moving the antenna. There can definitely be differences among tuners. One would think that now that we're in the 21st century, all tuners would be "equally excellent" as far as reception goes--especially with a major technology switch. Anyway, I have a question. If I want to add a channel or two manually, can I enter the virtual channel number, or do I need to look up the RF channel number?
  17. Davey did color on Cub broadcasts for a year or so back before Santo started doing them in the early 90's. I thought back then he did a pretty decent job. I think he's better suited for radio color guy than he is on pre and post game TV. Davey is fine in an analyst role. When he first came on board, he had to function a lot as a host. He displayed definite shortcomings in that role, and I think that still sticks out in the minds of a lot of people. I don't think I'd want to see him doing a lot of interviewing, either. A full game of play by play added to all the pre-and post-game stuff is a lot for one person, and adding a color man isn't going to do a lot to lighten that load. I think we'll eventually see a currently employed or under-employed local announcer pitching in. How the jobs are divided up will probably depend on which people might be available and what their strengths might be. Cory would certainly have the ability to flex depending upon whom he might be working with. There are probably a number of people around who can do the reporting and interviewing that goes on before and after the game. There are probably fewer that would be appropriate for play by play. Wayne Larrivee is the only play by play type that I can think of offhand. Best wishes to Bob. It's not going to be the same without him.

  19. southpaw121505, which part of Flood Pants' post are you addressing? FP mentions that Stetter and/or Braddock would make the bullpen stronger; service time wouldn't be wasted in those cases. Parra and Narveson are out of options; in their cases, service time will be used no matter what roles they're assigned. In the case of the 12th man, why would service time automatically be an issue? And if 12th man is actually good, how can that hurt?
  20. Thanks, Schlitz001. I've reported your two examples. By the way, if anyone thinks they can reproduce the issue in this topic, feel free to test. The more examples, the better. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif
  21. I'd tend to worry about the integrity of the recovery disk simply because I'd wonder if the cause of the blue screen did anything to the recovery partition. I recently advised one of my friends to see about ordering a recovery disk from her computer's manufacturer because her machine was so loaded with malware that one of her gurus recommended reformatting and reinstalling everything. The lesson: make your recovery disks right after taking the computer out of the box (like the directions tell you to do http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif).
  22. got a lame excuse about them not getting the HD feed from Fox Sports I think you're accurate when pegging that explanation as a lame excuse. From past experience based on reports by Brewerfan members, if the Fox Sports feed is absent, both DISH and DirecTV are affected. And when the problem is fixed, both services manage to start showing the game at just about the same time.
  23. So... was pulling Prince, Ryan. and Casey the right call? I'm not sure about that one... Definitely. Besides resting your starters and getting your bench players into the game, this is a situation where you try to avoid further embarrassing your opponent. Of course, you still have to keep playing. If you don't, you're "disrespecting the game." But you can sit starters and avoid stuff like bunting and stolen bases. Quoth Jim Edmonds:
  24. I'd guess that some kind of central sharing thing is installed for DISH and that Blancofan1 probably wouldn't need a dish of his own. It'd make sense to check into legalities, though. While a lot of apartments seem to restrict installation of satellite equipment, there may still be laws that would protect the tenant's right to have it.
  25. Pepcid AC, Pepcid Complete, or the generic equivalent of one of those is a necessity while traveling.
