  1. That definitely crossed my mind.
  2. It'd probably be good to cross-check a couple of sources. As an example, the $7 million for Jenkins on this site (vs. $8 million there) sounds right to me.
  3. I had to pass along that there are new Baseball Prospectus Mozilla search plugins available. These also require the installation of something called ConQuery. I don't know anything about it, but a quick glance at its tutorial would seem to indicate that it's useful in its own right.
  4. PJ520, From Brewerfan.net Site & Financial FAQ:
  5. I just tuned in. Does anyone know who's in the booth with Daron Sutton?
  6. Now all batman needs to do is look back in this thread and get himself an icon!
  7. When this site was redesigned last fall, one of the things I forgot to mention was how happy I was to see the frames removed from that section. (If we had a cartwheel emoticon, I'd be tempted to insert it here!) I think the stats suggestion could easily be incorporated the FAQ that Chris points out. However, because a message board FAQ would pertain to an entirely different part of the site and prominence would be beneficial, I'd separate it. Using a different name for a message board FAQ could avoid confusion. Speaking of prominence, there are some nice features around here that seem to be a little bit hidden. Nothing jumps out at me right now, but I'll know the next time I look for one of them. I'll come back to this thread if I spot something.
  8. Another thought: In the future, when a legitimate request is made such as the one in the Reminder -- Please Take It Well thread, it may be a better reflection on the site as a whole to post the request, lock the thread, at the end of the message say, "A thread to discuss this topic is provided on the Issues forum", and end the message with a link to the thread. Any ensuing pandemonium would become a little less prominent.
  9. Here's my two cents... or two suggestions: A strikeout FAQ has been mentioned, sometimes in jest and sometimes seriously. I think it'd be cool to have a page supplementing the current stats glossary which would provide links to articles explaining stats and issues surrounding them. Terms like VORP, Equivalent Average, Win Shares, PECOTA, etc., etc. are often mentioned and it'd be cool to have a place to get some information about them. Additionally, information about the more controversial topics such as productive outs or 'do strikeouts matter' could be placed there. Of course, it could also include 3TO. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/happy.gif I think the most expeditious way to set up such a page would be to rely mostly on outside links, with brief introductions (a paragraph or so) for each topic. In addition to outside links, links to existing articles already on this site could be included. Something else that such a page could include is links to Statistical and Sabermetric forums around the web. A page like this could have a link to a thread in the Issues forum or to Brian's (or someone else's) e-mail address, so additions could be submitted and collected. This link could also be a way to collect 'requests' if someone is looking for information and is unable to find it. If there's enough interest, maybe there could be a separate Brewerfan.net Stats/Sabermetric forum. Otherwise, these topics could be discussed in existing forums as they are now. A very prominent message board FAQ containing posting guidelines and suggestions could be very helpful, especially to newbies. Right now, there's a sticky here on the Issues forum, but I'd have to guess that many readers never get to this forum. I'd suggest gleaning the best from the current sticky thread, along with some of the concepts in the Reminder -- Please Take It Well thread and placing it in a succinct, but inclusive document. This FAQ could be displayed as a locked sticky at the top of every forum or it could be displayed in a prominent link above the messages. It could invite input by placing a link to a thread in the Issues forum?either the existing FAQ or a new one. If major changes are made to a permanent FAQ, posters could be alerted by a sticky on every forum.
  10. Duh! I didn't notice that.http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/embarassed.gif
  11. Go to 'My Control Center', follow the Edit Profile link near the top, check the box to display the ezSupporter icon, then save the changes using the button at the bottom of the page. Mine didn't take the first time. I think I somehow got logged out in the process. It worked the second time around. I'm not sure why they call it an icon. It looks like text to me. It's no biggie, just slightly confusing. By the way, I think it's cool to display that little tidbit beneath your username; it promotes the concept.
  12. I was going to suggest the same thing as SeriesFinale a few weeks ago. The dates make things so much easier when a reader bookmarks something and comes back to it later. I can think of several items that I've posted links to countless times on other forums. For the sake of context, I'd always be going back to find the date. Would it be possible to also include dates on the articles?
  13. Brian, Thanks for the link. I just found it and was going to post it until you beat me to the punch. Either I'm blind or ezBoard doesn't make it obvious. I went to their site map to get it. I see it didn't include the information about HTML in sigs; their signature page has that information.
  14. Can you outline the benefits that the user gets by becoming an ezSuporter? I know we can hide our online status, which doesn't matter much to me. I also know we can put HTML in our signatures; that could be cool. Does this get rid of the ads when logging in? I think this is something I'll do no matter what, but I'm just curious about any other benefits.
  15. This probably does belong on the Issues or Off Topic forums, but I have no problem with the topic showing up here as it gets more attention. The upside of open source software is that that it becomes possible to have an unlimited number of 'watchdogs' who can spot vulnerabilities and make them public very quickly. These 'watchdogs' are also able to offer fixes. Examples would be any of the software from Mozilla, Open Office, etc.
  16. I admit to not cross checking other players, but I just looked at Wes Helms' profile and his 2003 OPS is listed as .542 over 2 games and 6 ABs. I just thought I'd point that out and ask how that could happen. We all know that computers can play nasty tricks at times!
  17. I've found that this is the simplest way to search sites?like Baseball Cube?that use the post method. Firefox directions: Once you've done this, all you have to do is go to your location (address) bar and type in your keyword and search criteria. Example: cube Robin Yount (Note that you do these searches in the location bar, not the search bar!) This method beats the "I'm Feeling Lucky" thing because it actually does the right search. Some people actually prefer this type of search to using the plugins in the search box. I'm not in that camp. I see it as a nice workaround for sites where plugins can't be created. Edit: Graphics moved to different server
  18. José Mercedes: Picked by the Brewers from the Orioles in the 1993 Rule 5 Draft (1993-12-13).
  19. Bill and Daron just talked about an e-mail question concerning the "free" webcasts. First, Bill plugged the idea that the $14.95 spent for Gameday Audio is very well spent. (I agree with that.) But then Daron added that he felt these particular games should be free, that it was promised that they would be free, and that the people involved are trying to work things out.
  20. LV, Why don't you just copy and paste from the posts themselves? You can start with this and add new information to the top. (There's also a benefit over editing: people don't have to go back.) LV's posts: ----------------------------------------- Top of the 4th Rick Helling Pitching for the Crew Varmus - Flyout I believe (1 out) Olsen - BB on 4 pitches Joe Kennedy - Bunt 1-3, Olsen to second Sullivan - Double to left over Lee's head 2-0 Rockies Gonzales - Single to left 3-0 Rockies Holiday - HR almost left the complex 5-0 Rockies (all 5 runs for Rockies have come with 2 outs today) Mohr - F9 Through 3.5 5-0 Rockies ----------------------------------------- Bottom of the 3rd 1-0 Rockies Damian Miller Pinch hitting - K swinging Brady Clark - (Sutton and Schroeder still talking about his catch to end last inning) F7 Junior Spivey - BB on 4 pitches Lyle Overbay - (Spivey steals second and throw goes into center , Spivey to third) K Swinging Through 3 1-0 Rockies ----------------------------------------- Top of 3rd 1-0 Rockies Ricky Bottalico now pitching Matt Holiday - Single to left Dustin Mohr - F9 Ryan Sheeley - (With Sheeley batting, Holiday steals second) K swinging JD Clausser - F8 Clark lays out going away from home plate to rob Clausser of extra bases ----------------------------------------- Bottom of 2nd 1-0 Rockies Jenkins - 5-3 groundout Helms - K swinging (1-13 for the spring so far) "The new and improved Wes Helms" Hall - Broken bat sigle to right Moeller - (With Moeller batting, Kennedy throws away a pickoff attempt, Hall to second) 6-3 End of 2 1-0 Rockies ----------------------------------------- Top of 2nd 1-0 Rockies Clint Varmus - F3 (in foul territory to Overbay) Tim Olson - F7 Deep to Lee Joe Kennedy - Single to Center Sullivan - BB (2 or last 3 balls were very close calls, Cappy a little fustrated w/the calls). 21. Wasn't there a post somewhere on this forum that said that after the initial announcement was made, a decision was made to make the games free?
  22. And even with XM, I know I'll end up renewing it eventually. It doesn't take a lot of listening for that service to pay for itself.
  23. Addendum: MLB.com's customer service hours are currently 8 AM-5 PM, Monday-Friday. The hours will expand during the regular season.
  24. That's a good question that I didn't ask. Here's MLB.com's customer service number: 866-800-1275 And here's Daron's e-mail (he's been giving it out during games): brewcrewtv@aol.com
