  1. Do people still want to argue that there is no correlation between PED use and power numbers? I think the link is that PEDs can allow for a more strenuous workout routine. I'd hypothesize that the workouts allowed by the PEDs could be the cause of increased power numbers. It'd be a chain of events rather than direct causation.

  3. If a player has been placed on optional assignment waivers, outright assignment waivers, or outright release waivers (all irrevocable), the club awarded the claim is based on W-L record regardless of league. If he's been placed on trade assignment waivers (revocable), teams in his own league have priority. Waiver requests are transmitted at 2:00PM each business day. (I assume that's Eastern Time.) If a request is made after 2:00PM, it's transmitted the following day. Every day is considered a business day during the season. During the off-season, weekends and several holidays aren't included as business days. During the off-season and during the first 30 days of the season, the previous year's W-L record is used to determine claim priority. Beginning with the 31st day of the season, the current year's W-L record is used. If teams making a claim have the same W-L record, the previous year's record is used as a tie-breaker. If two teams are still tied, MLB goes back a season further. Teams have about 48 hours to make a claim, so it's possible that a team better than the Brewers may have made a claim first. Where a player goes isn't officially decided until until 1:00 PM on the second business day after the waiver request is made. Designating a player for assignment allows a team to remove the player from its 40-man roster immediately while the waiver process sorts itself out. Here's a source that appears to be up to date as of this year.

  5. Thanks! That makes a lot more sense.
  6. he spent very little time optioned to the minors in 2014 djoctagone, I see three teams and 318 plate appearances in 2014 for Colin on his Baseball Reference page. Was there an outright assignment?
  7. The Arizona League Brewers play games in the morning and don't sell tickets.
  8. This year, Braun can be traded to the Diamondbacks, Angels, Dodgers, Marlins, Padres, and Giants. The teams on last year's list included the Angels, Dodgers, Marlins, Rays and Nationals. One team appears to be missing from that list.
  9. With Colin's designation, we'll close this topic and refer any discussion to this one: Brewers Claim RHP Neil Ramirez from Cubs; Walsh DFA'd Feel free to use that topic to continue any discussion from this thread.
  10. I'd expect a fitted cap to cost significantly more than a "one size fits most" model. It appears that this cap costs three dollars more than the standard fitted caps.
  11. I called MLB.TV about it's Follow Your Team feature, which is still listed as "Coming Soon" on its website. This is the feature that would let you watch the opponent's broadcast of your home team. They're saying it should be available next month, possibly around the All Star game.

  13. It was a nice touch putting the national anthem on TV. That used to be routine. I think there's going to be a mid-game ceremony at or around 3:00.
  14. It's challenging, but it's been done when two MLB teams have shared a stadium. And it's been done when MLB and NFL teams have shared. But with all of the difficulties, sharing a stadium is probably best left as a temporary solution, such as when the Yankees played at Shea during the 1970s.
  15. I wonder about the mechanics. We haven't heard anything about any roof issues since the original problems were fixed. So maybe we're OK, but I'm sure it won't last forever. I'm sure there's ongoing maintenance we're not hearing about.

  17. I almost never encounter buffering on any service, even with my wimpy 25MB connection. The few times I've experienced it, it's been more of a blip on the radar. When there's been weirdness, I can usually pin it down to the app or service itself rather than my device, my router, or my Internet connection. When Hulu acts up, restarting the app takes care of it. One time on MLB.TV, I could pin the issue down to equipment in San Diego (which, of course, I couldn't fix). Both live feeds of a Padres-Dodgers game were were constantly "rewinding" by a few seconds. It sounded like the broadcasters were repeating themselves. The other live games that were on at that time were fine. I think it's reasonable to expect that streaming will have a few occasional quirks. But so does cable. The picture seems nicer when I stream, though.

  19. Yeah, the umps can initiate replays whenever they deem that review is warranted, although they don't have to grant a manager's request if there's no challenge available. The problem Brian and Bill had was that it took so long for that replay to be initiated.
  20. BA keeps saying that Chase was hit in the right shoulder blade. But given that Chase is a righty hitter, how can he be hit there?
  21. He was hit in the shoulder. We won't really know how OK Chase is until he can start warming up. The first pitch to Anderson was inside but didn't hit him, thus the ejection. Chase has three HBPs today, but it'd be a stretch to say that any of them were intentional. He hasn't been pitching all that well.
  22. Wow. Simon absolutely drilled Anderson with a pitch and was ejected.
  23. Two teams sharing a field is really hard on the turf. Also, I would think that Miller Park would be an expensive place to open up for the small crowds that would come to minor league games, especially when heat is needed.
