  2. Here's how it typically works, according to Bill Schroeder's book.
  3. It's OK for etiquette to change. An example would be "Ms." becoming the default honorific for women. But when manners evolve, a previous way to be polite is supposed to be succeeded by a new way to be polite. Etiquette shouldn't be modernized in favor of "me first." It seems to me that people walking and using a phone tend to require about the same amount of extra attention as people using a cane or walker. The difference is that I'm happy to do whatever I can to make life easier for those using mobility devices. The people who walk in the middle of the lanes in parking lots definitely get to me. I don't get what they're thinking. Many or most of these people also drive cars. As a matter of fact, they're walking to or from cars. You'd think they'd understand the driver's position. Couples holding hands while strolling around in crowded places is another one. They slow everyone down. On the flip side, I appreciate it when parents hold their children's hands. The other day at Miller Park, I encountered a group of people standing around chatting literally two feet in front of the escalator. That's about as clueless as it gets.

  5. Nice effort in center by Broxton, kind of the opposite of the conservative option that Flores took. Too bad it was a trap. Still, the main thing is that the ball didn't go by him.
  6. Well, that was a strange flyball that Flores didn't catch. I wonder if the ball was in the lights or if the wind affected it. At any rate, I'm glad he didn't try too hard and let the ball go by him for two bases.
  7. Peréz would have been safe instead of caught stealing at second, but Counsell had used up his challenge.
  8. 4 infield hits for the Giants so far. Garza's stranded eight runners through four innings, some of whom shouldn't have been on base to begin with. He's at 87 pitches. His count should probably be in the 60s.
  9. Garza just got a gift strikeout after Luc convinced the ump that he caught a foul tip.
  10. Well, in fairness to Matt's pitching… A single bounced off of him. Gennett and Pérez nearly collided, turning a pop fly that should have been an out into a double. Luc made a hurried throw to third which would have gotten the runner had he taken his time. Matt bobbled a ball briefly, resulting in the hitter being safe at first after a review.
  11. The Giants' lineup in the lead has been adjusted to reflect the fact that Ángel Pagán has replaced Jarrett Parker as the starter in left field.

  15. Welcome to the board, BrewCrewBlueDevil. I agree that Matt should have a relatively short leash if he performs like he did last year. However, if there's improvement and he out-performs Wily, I'd give him some time to let things shake out. If not, we may as well bring Wily back.

  17. On a more positive note, including his hits in Japan, Ichiro is one hit shy of tying Pete Rose.
  18. Yeah, so much for having a runner at second or third.
  19. A tie game with nobody out and a runner at second made it easy to decide to pinch hit for Anderson.
  20. Cot's, Baseball Reference, and spotrac all agree on Carter's total service coming into the season. He had 3 years, 159 days. That comes up to being 13 days short of four years of service, making him controllable through the 2018 season and eligible to sign with anyone for 2019. Column three on Chris Carter's soptrac page is right while column six isn't. That makes spotrac's page half right and half wrong, with the actual service time being in agreement across all three sites.
  21. I don't particularly care if Wily gets another year of control or not, but it's a good question to discuss and sort out. We probably haven't heard about Wily clearing waivers because media pundits aren't considering it newsworthy. But he would have had to have cleared before the team announced his demotion in such certain terms. Because they're revocable like trade waivers, optional assignment waivers aren't likely to be publicized unless they're somehow leaked. Teams would have very little motivation to block AAA demotions in general. Plus, if a team made a claim, it would mean taking him and putting him on its roster.
  22. The rotation has been adjusted slightly to include Garza. Monday (tonight): Anderson (four days rest) Tuesday: Garza Wednesday: Nelson (five days rest) Thursday: Guerra (five days rest) After that, I'd assume that we'll see Davies followed by Anderson, each on four days rest.
