  1. Thankfully, I don't believe I've ever heard anyone say that. Maybe I pick the right friends. In certain contexts, such as a message board, I don't mind it in response when someone has used humor, but I don't like it when people LOL their own material.
  2. I think it's useful that Anderson shouldn't need an innings limit. While we have other older pitchers that fall into this category, adding Chase will allow for some trade flexibility. Hill's going to need to make some adjustments. I hear that he's a pull hitter, and with declining skills, pulling all the time isn't working anymore. If he doesn't show the ability to adjust, cut ties. If he does, showcase him as trade bait.
  3. Some here have argued that the team should have been selling off players all along… not necessarily an extreme selloff like we're seeing now, but enough to keep the pipeline going. That might have resulted in "off" seasons here and there, but it also might have negated the need for a full fledged rebuild.
  4. Did Luc say he wanted to be traded? All I really got is that he'd prefer winning. I'd expect that from any player.
  5. One of my friends keeps Christmas going until the Packers season is over.
  6. I think Luc was taken out of context too. But Ryan's position is the right one. If you happen to be right, the past doesn't matter.
  7. From the Brewers' perspective, I'd be glad to make a trade involving those two players. But if I were running the Rockies, I'd hang onto McMahon. I don't know when the Rockies will be competitive again, but Arenado will be a free agent in four years (2020), and Peralta will be a free agent in three (2019).
  8. If I can trust my 3 semesters of college Spanish, his first name is pronounced "ee-sahn." Like Nissan, without the N. Yep. Unless we start seeing the name spelled with an accent mark placed above the second syllable, it should be EE-sahn. (Words ending in a vowel, n, or s stress the second to the last syllable unless an accent mark tells us otherwise.)
  9. I suppose that different people could define tanking in different ways. When different definitions exist, you have the potential for misunderstanding. A full-fledged tank would extend all the way to the dugout and the field. That would cause problems on lots of levels, including fan morale, player morale, raised eyebrows in the commissioner's office, and credibility in general. Some members believe that Stearns is making losses an objective; others believe that losses should be an objective without claiming that the front office is actually operating that way. I don't believe that the Brewers are trying to lose. They're simply trying to make the best use of their resources in order to sustain winning when it becomes practical to do so. Losing is a probable consequence, but it isn't an objective. If the team happens to win more than expected this year and next, that's not a bad thing. It means that players have performed well and that Stearns has either found some keepers or some trade chips. Winning would mean less draft money, but it'd also mean that there'd be more potential to stock the system with trades. There's more than one way to skin a cat; the Brewers simply need to go with the flow.
  10. Snow predictions at this point are utterly pointless. Just in the last 4 hours Kenosha went from 7-11 inches to 2-4 inches. They're not pointless; they give us something to go by. These early predictions tell us that we should plan on our ability to be out and about to be affected somewhere around Tuesday and Wednesday. The details can change. And maybe nothing significant happens at all. If that's the case, we can consider ourselves lucky.
  11. The 2013 video of [cite]Space Oddity[/cite] by space station commander Chris Hadfield seems appropriate to this thread.
  12. Lol at Cecchini not being able to hit. Please steer clear of condescension. If someone says something that's intended to be funny, go ahead and LOL to your heart's content. But please don't LOL someone's opinion. The rest of the post is fine.
  13. Here's a nice pictorial history of the Brewers' logos, uniforms, etc. over the years: Milwaukee Brewers Logos (Chris Creamer's Sportslogos.net) I don't think anything is missing, although the new jersey is shown under Jersey Logos but not under Alternate Uniforms. A quirk on this page is that logos and uniforms used between 1997–99 are shown twice, reflecting the Brewers move between leagues. Don't drive yourself nuts looking for subtle differences.
  14. I think that the current uniforms are the best the team has ever had, but I can agree with the "underwhelming" assessment. Still, on a non-alternate, I think that understated is better than overstated. I wouldn't want the uniforms to get too "cartoonish," unless it's an alternate. I'm fine with them doing whatever they like with logos on their promotional material, though. I've generally preferred gold to yellow as long as there isn't too much of it. But I like these new uniforms, and they're causing me to rethink the yellow.
  15. the new youngsters were pretty much just assigned numbers starting with Broxton at #60 Of course, that could change if or when they make the team.
  16. The transponder has different colored lights. One of the lights will warn you when funds are low. These lights are actually at one of the booths in the cash lanes, not on the transponder. I've never bothered to try to find them. I suppose that it'd do no good to have them in the open road tolling lanes. You'd never see them at 70 mph. At any rate, I-PASS works great, and I highly recommend it, even for very occasional tollway users. Because it was only an additional $10 (refundable deposit), I picked up a second transponder for the second car. For me, that's easier than remembering to move the transponder. It wouldn't have been necessary, though. If you forget your transponder, the system will photograph your license plate and match it up to your account. There won't be any penalties, and you'll still get the discounted rates. The only difference will be that if you log in, the "video tolls" won't show up immediately. As mentioned earlier, changes to your account happen within 15 minutes. When you go online, you can make a payment, add or remove vehicles, add transponders, and change your automatic replenishment amount. The only thing you can't do is change your low balance threshold, which by default is $10. You can do that over the phone. In theory, if you're automatically replenishing and your credit card is up to date, you shouldn't have to make any payments manually. If you somehow manage to "overdraft," you have seven days to deal with it. In the meantime, you won't be penalized, and your tolls will still be discounted. Overdrafts shouldn't happen under normal circumstances, though. If I were to anticipate heavy use, such as a trip that covers several E-ZPass states, I might consider a manual payment just to be sure I'm covered in case of any glitches. While that shouldn't be necessary, posts here indicate that E-ZPass isn't quite as user-friendly as I-PASS. Not every state offers discounts. On the Chicago Skyway, you'll pay the full toll. Plus you'll pay a 3 cent surcharge for using Illinois' system rather than Indiana's. The rest of Indiana might be discounted; I don't recall. But you'll be hit up for three cents for using I-PASS. That still beats stopping and messing around with cash. One other tidbit… if you happen to be carrying more than one transponder in your vehicle, wrap any extras in aluminum foil to keep them from registering at the tollbooths. If you pick up extra transponders in person, they'll do that for you.
  17. Combining the daytime and evening forecasts for Tuesday, I'm seeing 1-4 for Kenosha, 4-8 for Milwaukee, 6-10 for Oshkosh and between Sheboygan and Green Bay, and 6-11 for Madison.
  18. A team doesn't need a LOOGY if its lefties are capable of getting both right and left-handed pitching out. That's a better option than a LOOGY anyway. A LOOGY fills in a gap that seems to exists on most teams, though. These pickups shouldn't bother us, but as jerichoholicninja points out, we've seen them put into roles where they really don't belong. Based on that, I can see the nervousness unless the new regime shows us that it won't necessarily be the case.
  19. Leaving a pitcher in when he can't get any outs is likely to slow the game more than a pitching change or two.
  20. R.E.L.A.X. Chill out everyone. This forum is to discuss rumors ors which is exactly what the poster brought to the table. At least this person is bringing a rumor to the discussion rather ongoing banter about whether it was right or wrong for Lucroy to say the crap he did. That discussion should be brought to a different thread entirely. This thread is about trade rumors revolving around our catcher. Period! The Luc interview would have been a definite fit for the Major Leagues forum. But it would have been discussed in this topic anyway, which would have resulted in topics that duplicate each other. Also, a split to address that now would be too complicated as there are individual posts that address both the comments and trade proposals.
  21. I don't think people are trying to circumvent paying. Rather, they're looking to be able to choose whom to pay. They're seeing that cable and satellite aren't good values. Cord-cutters could easily end up paying more than they would for a cable subscription. But they'd be getting exactly what they want, and with services like Netflix and Hulu as part of the picture, they'd be getting programming that cable and satellite don't offer. The biggie for me is that I'd like to have several TVs around the house. Equipping each one with a cable box is way too expensive. And paying $90 per month for programming I never use in order to get the few channels I want to watch just seems dumb, especially when that doesn't even pay for the equipment to watch that programming.
  22. From a consumer standpoint, cable is a poor investment. You pay for a pile of channels you don't watch. Equipment rental is high, which is ironic in an age when TVs are better and cheaper than ever before. And equipment is poor. Time Warner has been offering the same oversized and ugly cable boxes for more than a decade. The software is slow. You hit a button on the remote, and nothing happens. You hit the button again, and two things happen. That's provided that you hit the right button to begin with on a remote with over sixty buttons. A couple of years ago, I helped a friend hook up Charter boxes. They didn't even have HDMI capability. In contrast, nice little modern boxes that work as expected can be purchased inexpensively from Apple, Roku, and Amazon. They allow for a lot of consumer choice. The only issue is that a lot of programming, such as sports, is restricted to antiquated and expensive cable services.
  23. These guys might have already been on a contract. But the last four hires (provided that Block goes) have all left for what amounts to a promotion. They've all gone from #2 in Milwaukee to #1 somewhere else, and two of the four went to much larger markets. Releasing people under those circumstances would be the fair thing to do.
  24. Jeff's a color or studio guy. Because of the unique construction of the broadcasts, Brewers radio needs play by play announcers. They only fall back on a color guy when their regular options are unavailable. Are you sure you aren't talking about Uecker? Describing the action while it's happening has never been Bob's strength. But he's good about backtracking and getting things right once all is said and done. Backtracking can be more important than getting it right the first time; a lot of announcers skip that step. I'm fine with Block, but it took me awhile to warm up to him. In contrast, I warmed up to Cory Provus quickly, probably because he was thrown in head first due to Uecker's medical issues at the time. I like Jeff Levering. I haven't heard a lot of him on the radio, but I was really impressed when he worked a TV game last year. And it's hard not to think about the time he relieved himself while on the air.
  25. The players association has historically been against a salary floor.
