  1. Sure. I was only commenting about the previous comment: saw he was struggling to get much push off the rubber not intending to imply it is not a problem. (though it is probably better having it be his left leg rather than his right)
  2. I don't know if he has ever done it before, but what about Wolf on short rest on the 22nd? Then he can go on the 28th and Marcum is not needed until July 2. They have 2 days off in the next 5 after that, followed by 6 DH games. If it were to turn into a short start, bullpen game the days off and the DH games would give them a chance to recover. Maybe Narveson can throw an inning, instead of bullpen on the 22nd? If they don't move Wolf up to the 22nd or do some other shuffling of the rotation, Greinke pitches on the 21 and then not until the 28th. This may not be helpful to getting him to reach mid-season form.
  3. Sure there is...no DH = perfect solution. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif You are right, that is the biggest barrier to moving any team from the NL to the AL. With interleague play all season the DH rule becomes even more of a problem. I think if they do go 15 teams in each league it is going to lead to a elimination of this difference.
  4. He'd be pushing off with his right leg, though.
  5. "...go and demonstrate in very quick order that you are prepared to follow the requirements and there is a good, strong possibility [you will be back quickly]. We need him. "But if you're going to have a team, it has to be that. It can't be 24 guys and an exception." Couldn't they have come up with some kind of discipline that doesn't involve punishing the other 24 players and thousands of fans?
  6. With the starter going out after 1, the one good thing is they only used 2 guys from the bullpen (assuming Herrera is gone)
  7. Actually yesterday and Wed, showed their ability to lose to bad teams http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/wink.gif
  8. I guess I forgot to include the Marlins-esque free-falling cardinals, losers of 6 straight now. I suppose if we happen to catch everyone in free-fall mode we'll be fine and dandy. 2 of 3 @ Philadelphia, 2 of 3 vs. Giants...didn't check if they were free falling at the time
  9. I think the more important question would be a flight in other direction, anyway they changed it to a night game so should be able to get someone else here from Nashville.
  10. Unfortunately, probably more likely that we lose one or both of Houston and Pittsbugh and there could be nightmare scenarios where both Pittsburgh and Houston leave the NL Central. Pittsburgh is lobbying to move to the NL East, they could trade places with Atlanta. Meanwhile Houston could move to the either the NL west to take the place of AZ, if they move to the AL or they could go to the AL West themselves. Reading several articles the three teams they have apparently been talking about moving to the AL are apparently FL, Houston or AZ. If it were FL, I assume they'd go to the AL east, Toronto to the central and KC to the west and Pittsburgh then goes to the NL East.
  11. I'd just make it 14 division games and have a 161 game schedule. That way all teams in the division play the same season schedule. Here's a 162 game variation, with 30 inter-league games: 18 games vs. division = 72 games 6 games vs. other divisions in league = 60 games 3 games vs. same division in other league (ie. Brewers play the teams in AL central every season) = 15 games 3 games vs. one other division in other league (ie. Brewers alternate playing either AL west or east each season) = 15 games Another alternative, if they wanted to do some "pairity" scheduling: 18 games vs. division = 72 games 6 games vs. other division in league = 60 games 3 games vs. one division in other league = 15 games 3 games against the 5 teams that finished in the same spot in standings (ie. if you finish 3rd, play the other 3rd place teams) = 15 games I think a 3 game playoff for the wild cards is fine, they didn't win the division...make it tougher on them, rather than having the division winners sit around for a week or more. After the season ends, one day off for division winner tie-breakers (or eliminate this and create tie breakers like: head-to-head results, division record, league record, etc.). Then 3 game wild card round with no off days...either 2-1 or 3 at the park of the team with better record. Then right to the next round with no off days. This way it would be only 3-4 days from the end of the season to the start of second round of playoffs. Makes it much harder on the wild card and the team with the best record gets to play the wild card team, gaining an advantage. This adds something to play for in certain situations, you won't want to settle for getting in as a wild card, if you are comfortably leading your division but don't have the best record you may want to try to get their so you get to play a worn out wild card team instead of a rested division winner.
  12. Everyone seems to have their own idea as to what his sleep disorder is, mostly these seem to be based on projecting whatever their own sleeping issues have been. Now I will do the same http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif... I thought I had heard Bill Schroeder talking about Braddock's problem in a way that made me think that he has trouble getting enough sleep because he is thinking about things too much. This is a problem I have, I'll be going over and over something in my mind and not be able to fall asleep. Then sometimes I'll start stressing over the very issue of not being able to sleep...it's 2 am and I am still awake, I have to get up in 3-1/2 hours...
  13. No he does away with the leagues, it would be a conference...see how different that is Conference, not league. I"d guess that players who sit on the bench in the AL would like to do away with the DH, so that they'd get playing time. I've hoped the players might go for no DH in exchange for roster expansion to 27. This seems like a reasonable expansion to me, because long ago teams typically carried 10 pitchers, now they have 12, so adding 2 to the bench would allow it to be restored it to the 7 that used to be common.
  14. Nope, he says: The division winner with the conference's best record, the No. 1 seed, would play the No. 6 seed Plus he gives the opinion that a bye in baseball would would hurt the team that gets it. This is his reason for having 12 playoff teams, instead of 10.
  15. Those divisions seem fine and I definitely like his idea of dropping the DH. I don't understand his playoff scheme, he says: Baseball’s present proposal is to increase the playoff teams from eight to 10, by adding a second wild-card team. The problem with that concept is that the division winners would have to sit and wait for the wild-card series to end. That might work in basketball and hockey, but not in baseball. In baseball, timing is important, and sitting and waiting is a detriment for both hitters and pitchers. But then he has 12 teams and after his first round you would have 6, but then what? I think 5 with the wildcards having a quick 3 game series is the best way to expand playoffs, if they must be expanded.
  16. The problem is what you are really asking is how they can afford Prince plus have the rest of the roster be similar to what they currently have. IOW, how can the Brewers afford a higher payroll. Any team can "afford" Prince, even if it took 25,000,000 per year to sign him, the rest of the roster could be as low as about $10,000,000 by having 24 players at league minimum. So, since any team can afford a payroll of more than $35,000,000, any team can afford Prince. In the Brewers case, they are currently on the hook for $63 million next year and $48 million the following year and then less than $37 million in subsequent years. 37 + 20 for Prince would still leave at least 30 million to fill out the roster. They could, perhaps, sign Prince for for something like $10, 20, 30, 30, 30, 30, 30...that's $180 million for 7 years. This would just mean that in, for example, 2015 they'd have Prince, Braun, Weeks, Yo and the other 21 players would need to average maybe about $1.5 million each. If they were to find a way to add $10 million per year in revenue, it would just raise that average for the remaining roster in 2015 to $2 million, you still end up with the question of "would that $180 million (or whatever it would end up being) be better spent elsewhere?" (the correct answer being "yes" http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/wink.gif) You are looking for some new source of revenue, that for some reason could only go to Prince Fielder. I don't think they are , for example, going to find a local billionaire who loves Prince so much so that, if the team signs him, he will agree take over sponsorship of the AirTran Landing zone (renaming it Prince's Patio) for $10 million per year above whatever they currently get, for the next 7-8 years.
  17. I am obviously a fan of future barrelman http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif, but did not really like the jersey color last night. OTOH, I thought it looked fine with the pants, I just prefer the blue color. Maybe they just looked bad on WMLW...doesn't everything http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/wink.gif . (I was seeing them from the club level.) To me the All-stars with that color look bad because of the pinstripe pants. I've never liked mixing pinstripe pants with solid color jerseys of any color, it just looks mis-matched. If you have pinstripes they need to be on both the pants and the shirts, imo. To me, if anything, there seems to be more of an issue with the hat color than the pants: http://www.jsonline.com/s...s/brewers/123693329.html
  18. Don't like that idea. As for teams in same local area being in different leagues, the two Texas teams are 250 miles apart...this is similar to Pittsburgh and Philadelphia (who for a long time were in the same division).
  19. Actually that is on-topic, imo, shows the problem with building a one dimensional team, which is what may be if signing Prince meant a rotation of Yo followed by something like 2 mediocre and 2 bad starters.
  20. With Prince they have mostly been a sub .500 team. Overall they are 405-405, exactly .500, for his 5 full seasons. 2010 77 85 .475 2009 80 82 .494 2008 90 72 .556 2007 83 79 .512 2006 75 87 .463 The one year they were significantly above .500 and made the playoffs, they had Ben Sheets and half a season of CC Sabathia. Had Sheets not ended up injured, they likely would have done better in the playoffs. Fielder had a much better year in 2007 and 2009 than he did in 2008, yet 2008 was the best year the team has had with Fielder on the roster. The 2008 version of Fielder is a lot easier to replace than the 2008 version of Sheets and Sabathia.
  21. If Braun's first deal was a discount it was because he chose to shift the risk to the team. He got a guaranteed large sum of money, if he were injured or not as successful as projected, he still would have all that money for certain. He was restricted in who he could negotiate with at that time, so that may have resulted in a discount as the only way to get certainty was to sign a contract with the Brewers. Fielder chose to take the risk in exchange for a larger payoff, if things went as he hoped...and they seem to be doing just that.
  22. Playing Gamel at first and Fielder at DH would improve the defense, I assume. This would also give Gamel an opportunity to get a little MLB experience at 1B. Whether they bring anybody up or not, they should use the DH games to rest one or more of their worst defensive players: Fielder, Braun, McGehee, Betancourt.
  23. Greinke supposedly passed up a $100 million extension to come here. Seems like he is far more likely to consider factors other than money. If he'd like to stay, they can offer him an extension before Fielder hits free agency. If he is not interested, they can then offer that money to Fielder as a free agent.
