  1. Brian A referred to how successful the team was bunting in that game. so I guess 1 of 3 bunts working is a great success.
  2. This is a recent discovery I have made as well. It is surprising to me how much clamoring there has been for more bunting. Thanks for the information regarding that 1st inning bunt.
  3. If the fates have anything to say about it... its a death wish for this teams chances. I see, so if they don't make the wild card it won't be Yost's fault or Sveum's fault or the player's fault or Melvin's fault, instead it'll all be on bucks2281. Well, at least we'll know who to blame http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/wink.gif.
  4. I am just so sick of seeing the same scenario play itself out all the time, including once on Tuesday. They get a guy on second with nobody out and 3 batters later the inning is over and the guy is still standing on second... The problem I have with bunting there is suppose you are successful at bunting 80% of the time and get a runner on 3rd with one out, are the odds of getting him to 3rd via either a fly ball, grounder to the right side, or a base hit really all that much less than 80%? In addition, by not bunting you also have a chance that you will have 2 on with no outs via either a hit or a walk or even one on, no outs and a run in (not to mention the possibility of a HR scoring 2 with no outs).
  5. Why? Not saying we are not, but why does that schedule being revealed lead to that conclusion? edit: Ah, I see it's about watching the games (with 140 hours of available leave left http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif, I didn't think of that potential issue for some)...I had read the "we" as referring to the team.
  6. At the link that is the schedule (without teams or locations being listed) for "NLA = National League Division Winner versus Wildcard", so if the Brewers get in that is their schedule. If they don't (and assuming that Houston does not pull out a miracle) then that is the schedule for the Cubs vs. Wild card (Mets/Phillies).
  7. If my memory is correct, early in the season they were not hitting well (in terms of BA) but were getting timely hits with RISP and scoring enough runs to win, despite the poor hitting. Why did this go the opposite way in Sept? Was it just random chance or was it due to there being less pressure in April than there is in Sept?
  8. I say head coach because those ripping on posters calling a manager a head coach are way off base...it's the same thing. It's just a title change.. Yes it is, but "Manager" is the terminology that is used in MLB. Saying "head coach" makes one sound like a football fan that takes an occassional glance at baseball, imo. What would a football fan think of someone who referred to Mike McCarthy as the "manager of the Packers"? The term "run" is also just an arbitrary term used in baseball instead of the more common "points" that many other sports use.
  9. Wouldn't he be worth taking a $3 million risk to the Brewers?
  10. Bunting with a aman on first isn't necessarily bad when the defense isn't expecting it since there is a reasonable chance the bunter could reach. Even if that chance is only 15%, that might make it a good move. With Sveum, I think they'll be expecting it every time, unless Fielder is batting.
  11. Based on what? Going 2-6 against the Cubs and Cincinatti and then beating up on Pittsburgh. The team did those things with Yost in charge, as well. I'm no fan of Yost and Sveum is giving the fans what they wanted as (judging from my limited experience with the forum on the brewers web site, calls to sports talk shows, and letters to the editor in the JS sports section) it seems like the masses have a strange desire to see more bunting. If Hall had struck out last night the fans would have booed loudly, but I heard none when he popped out on a bunt attempt. So fans are okay with bunting failures. Another bunt attempt (which I don't necessarily disagree with as CC not running the bases would be a positive) resulted in a double play. JJ Hardy has been hitting well, yet he was called on to but with 2 strikes. That is just assinine, the fact that it happened to work does not make it a good decision. In a previous game, Durham, who has also been hitting well was called on to bunt in the first inning.
  12. Hopefully they end up more than 2 games out of the wild card and stop whining about having had to play here.
  13. You know that would happen if it were a Packer game they were putting on the scoreboard... But maybe it is just too hard for fans to cheer for the Cubs, if things remain close it will be interesting if there is more reaction when it is Florida and the Mets.
  14. I believe Brian and/or Bill said it was a standing ovation.
  15. Now they just have to find a cheaper righthanded hitter than Hall to platoon with him (Lamb). Then what do you do with Hall? Someone will have to pay his salary, is it not pretty likely be the Brewers paying much of it, whether or not they keep him?
  16. I agree, I think Sabbathia should pitch once on regular rest. If it comes down to needing a win the last day (or a 1 game tie breaker), then you do whatever you can and pretty much everyone has to be available to some extent.
  17. http://personals.nydailyn...es_to_collapse_melvi.html
  18. Hopefully the Brewers would make it the last game ever to be played at Shea.
  19. I think making the playoffs earns Dale an interview and (more) serious consideration, but in no way will these last 12 games ultimately determine whether Dale gets a 3 year deal -- it's a feather in his hat, nothing more. Yes, it sounds like Sveum has been told if you do not get the team to the playoffs, you will not be the manager next year. This does not mean that he would necessarily be the manager if they do make it, just that he will have a shot at it.
  20. I'll be very surprised if the fans are not extremely supportive. I think a lot of the booing was really Yost related.
  21. Some of you are really too paranoid about the Cubs. Pinella will, I'm sure, do what he says here: http://chicago.cubs.mlb.c...mp;fext=.jsp&c_id=chc
  22. I was reading this for the first time and did not realize, until I went back, that the post with this "prediction" was Last Edited By: ELCABALLO45 09/15/08 9:45 PM. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/laugh.gif
  23. At this point, the question should be: who thinks they could have gone 2-4 in their last 6, if Yost had not been fired? The results so far could be much worse, so firing Yost at the time they did has probably been neutral, at best. He should have been let go after the 2007 season, given how little confidence ownership really had in him.
  24. Yes there is automatically a one game playoff, no tie breakers. My understanding is that the only time MLB uses a tiebreaker is if the two teams that are tied are going to the playoffs, such as if the Mets tie the Phillies and both have better records than the Brewers. In that case the tie breakers determine who is the division winner and who is the wild card.
  25. Does this guy being the best they get indicate that perhaps they had a hard time finding anyone actually qualified who was willing to take the job, under the bizarre circumstances? Don't they have AAA and AA coaches and managers? Any chance Kremblas was really fired just before Yost was because he was not willing to take Yost's job or even the 3rd base job under these circumstances?
