  1. Well I figured you would give them a better than 50% probability, but not 100%. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif
  2. Maybe hall is pulling a Sheffield... In addition to making no sense that comment is very unfair to Bill Hall. He may be having a bad year but it is certainly unitentional and he is not a jerk, like Sheffield.
  3. Yeah "unearned" runs...but giving up solid hits after an error is still not good pitching. Not that I am saying he should not start, it's just that ERA is a very flawed stat.
  4. 1 of 3 would result in 100% chance of the Brewers still having the top spot in the wildcard race all to themselves. Except there are games today also.
  5. what about the 4th game in Philly?
  6. With 2/5 of our rotation dominant, we will win at least 40% of our games the rest of the way. And actually, S & S will start 8 of the remaining 17 games (if necessary). Maybe they win 6 of those and 3 of the other 9...giving them 91 wins for the season and hopefully just enough to hold on to the wild card. They will need to start hitting again though and swinging at everything is not a good plan for achieving that.
  7. I think the point is they do not need to specifically worry about Houston, they do have to worry about any one of Houston, StL, or Philly finishing the season hot, while slumping themselves. If the Brewers go something like 5-12 the rest of the way someone will likely pass them, whether it is Houston or some other team does not really matter, does it?
  8. Of course, 10 would put them at 92 wins. 90 would mean 11-6 for Philly, 12-6 for StL, or 12-5 for Houston to tie. I am guessing at least one of those three makes it to 90 wins.
  9. Ah yes, Yost using meaningful statistical analysis to make his line-up. Hall has 16 at bats vs. Arroyo in the last 3 years. Why not start him and say Hall has done well vs. Arroyo this season, he is batting .333 against him with a 1.333 SLG.
  10. I don't know that there are better options than Hall (too bad Branyan can't get out there), but Yost has always managed like it is little league. He does not want Gagne to feel bad so he keeps him as closer until Gagne himself says he sucks and should not close. He worries far to much, imo, about getting everyone playing time...he usually states it that way...saying things like gotta get Counsel (or whoever) some starts, not JJ or Weeks needs a day off. I really think this goes back to his own playing days. When he was first hired he had said something like that he felt that he was not given enough opportunities as a player, that they gave up on him too soon.
  11. I don't think 90 will be enough because I would expect at least one of the three teams trailing the Brewers to finish well. Any one of the three winning about 2/3 of remaining games would get them to 90 wins. I was reminded by Bill S last night that 90 wins was the goal that Mark A set for the team. Perhaps this means that he will see the season as a success if they finish with 90 wins, but miss the playoffs???
  12. The extra players also allow for doing things like putting in a pinch runner in certain situations.
  13. He's busy working on the final design of a commemorative T-shirt, just in case the worst happens. So far he has come up with a couple options: I spent $100 million on baseball in 2008 and all I got was this lousy T-Shirt and Buying the Brewers - $223 million Player salaries for 4 seasons - $259 million Finally firing Ned Yost - Priceless
  14. No, but I won't be surprise to see the Brewers at between +1 and -1 in the wild card race, after Philly. Before this home stand I figured even if they were mediocre the rest of the way, the Brewers make the playoffs. Unfortunately, they have not been even mediocre. Yes, I do. Not about making the playoffs, but about having another quick exit after limping to the finish line.
  15. I was not watching the Packer game much, but was thinking about all the folks flipping over just in time to see the disasterous ending to what had been a pretty good outing by Bush.
  16. That could also have been said about McClung, when he was starting. I have no idea if he is still a decent pitcher as he never gets used now...
  17. I thought this was going to be about him going too far toward second base on some ground balls, when he should just let the second baseman get them and get his butt over to first to take the throw. As has been pointed out, on a bunt he is suppose to come in and the the second baseman is supposed to cover the base.
  18. What would it have cost to sign Linebrink? I had thought they would look beyond a few bad outings and try to keep him (and for all I know, maybe they did, I did not pay much attention to things during the off season)
  19. Probably flow of the game, don't ya know...
  20. To the casual fan, this will be a team that collapsed near the end of the season last year and at the very end of the season this year. Then they will see the team not sign Ben Sheets or CC and not understand why. Attendance will take a big drop...maybe 2 million next year, more or less depending on how competitive the team actually is. Then again most of the fans are now more interested in how the Packers and Badgers are doing, so maybe it does not have as much of an effect as I anticipate. Presumably Ned Yost will be fired, though who knows...maybe they'll try to sell it as the team did well and ending up with 90 wins (or whatever) would have been enough to make the playoffs in most years, but the league and division was just too tough this year. This is looking like an instant replay of last season for this division in another way too...it appears the Cubs may limp into the playoffs and lose in the first round, again. I like watching baseball too much to stop, but I could think about paying for MLB extra innings and adopting a new team. It would have to be an NL team, anyone have any suggestions for a team that is on the rise? http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/wink.gif
  21. booing isnt going to give him his 98 mph heater and nasty off speed stuff. Do you really think cheering is? Then again, maybe if the cheer were something like "Hey Gagne Hey"...perhaps it'd work.
  22. Looks like Yost is just going to stay with the current rotation. CC is listed as probable starter for Wednesday.
  23. I think it's funny how Schroeder hasn't quite grasped the concept of the Aflac trivia question... Yeah, he apparently thinks the question is for him not the audience http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif. I'd like to hear the "guys in the truck" trying to keep him from giving the answer away.
  24. I did not even realize until yesterday that they were doing a 6 pm start (shows how casual my football fandom is). So I'll see the first hour of the Packers before the Brewers take priority. Which is nice, what with the Favreless drama and all. That is actually the most interesting thing about this season, will Rogers' and Favre's performances make the Packers front office look like dopes or not. Maybe the Brewers should have arranged to have the Packers on their big screen starting at 6, I'm guessing it'll be one of the smallest crowds of the year in terms of actual bodies in the stands if not official attendance. Mondays are already likely the lowest attendance night, without a packer game.
  25. Gee, I wonder how the Mets survive and do well enough to have a $138,000 payroll...yes, this pales in comparison to the Yankees $209,000, but it is the 3rd highest in MLB and #1 in the NL.
