I did find this: Coming up through the minors, no one disagreed that Rickie had a great bat and tremendous talent, a sure fire bet to hit at every level right from the start. However, the knock on him was always that he was brutal defensively at second base, his projected position. Many, including Baseball Prospectus, projected him to eventually move to the outfield. In BP's opinion, his defense was enough of a handicap that they moved him all the way from #9 on their 2004 top prospects list to #36 in 2005. http://fromrobintorickie.wordpress.com/2006/02/24/analyzing-rickies-defense/ It just seems like JJ Hardy and Rickie Weeks were given "dibs" on SS and 2nd by the Brewers. No matter what else happened, no matter how anyone else performed, they were determined to make this the middle infield of the future. The reasoning for not doing it, really just seemed to come down to stubborness or Rickie's got "dibs" on 2nd.

I'm sure that is true. I sure do not read everything here and I pay no attention to minor league stuff. However, my recollection is that early last season, when I asked something like "Why not just put Hall at third?" responses were all about this superstar coming up from the minor leagues to take over 3rd base. I did not mean for my post to imply anything other than that I was surprised when this new guy came up and was a horror on defense. When it became clear that Koskie was not coming back any time soon the team should have changed plans and had Braun start working on the OF and committed to Hall at 3rd. In additon, even if they were going to have Koskie, why not have gone with Hall at 2nd and Rickie Weeks in the outfield?

Even when they do show replays, more often than not they just show them at full speed. FSN seems reluctant to run slow motion replays. It's just odd.

But even the worst reliever in the league is going to be able to get1 out before coughing up 5 more runs the vast majority of the time. I'm guessing that is the case with a 3 run lead and 2 outs with 2 strikes on the batter, as well. Yet Gagne gave that up not all that long ago. I was imagining him loading the bases with a couple walks, then giving up a slam and Yost leaving him in to try to hold on to a 1 run lead...because he's the "closer". Now that's funny http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/laugh.gif. But, I think Hall is a better infielder than outfielder and a better infielder than Braun or Weeks...so I'd say we have a defense consisting of: a catcher, 2 infielders, 4 outfielders and a DH.

I agree with that and he certainly is better defensively than Carlos Lee, for example, but he is still the weakest defender in our outfield. Didn't know that he had DHed, since that game was not on TV. What I've noticed with Braun is a some fly balls that seem like they should be outs fall in front of him, not sure if this is from him misjudging these flys or because he plays unusually deep...either of which is understandable, due to his inexperience. Anyway, in addition to using the DH to give some guys a partial day off, Yost should use it to keep some of the weak defenders off the field. Prince and Weeks should be the first choices for DH, when looking to upgrade the defense. Using TGJ as DH, gave no one a partial day off and also did not upgrade the defense...as you indicate, a difficult decision to understand.

I've not noticed this being a problem. Are you sure it is not the settings on your TV? Our TV has a fake "surround sound" setting, a few time that has been on and it makes the background crowd noise really excessive just like you described.

Yes, that was an odd decision...I wonder how things might have gone last year with Hall on the infield and Weeks or Braun in the outfield. Since I don't follow the minors or spring training, I really knew nothing of Braun until he came up, when I raised the question on here as to why the team wanted Bill Hall in CF and whatever stop-gap they were using at 3rd, everyone said because this great player, was to be brought up soon and play 3rd. No one said it was because the team is nuts, they should have put Hall at 3rd or 2nd and had Weeks or Braun learn the outfield.

This is no longer an excuse. The Brewers are right in the middle of the pack in terms of team payroll. I'd respectfully disagree. Okay...how about while it may be a valid reason to expect less frequent post season appearances by the Brewers than for the Yankees, Red Sox, Cubs, etc., an average payroll should lead to a post season appearance, say, at least once per decade?

Thanks for reporting that interesting information. That led me to investigate and discover that against teams that are not in 1st place in another division, the Brewers are 19-16 (they are 1-8 against FL and Boston).

Yes...would the team really have suffered by bringing Branyon up and planning to keep him up until at least June 23. I mean is TGJ on the bench really a key component to the team? Like TH, I had never heard of BB before. If it is true that they have scooped JS before, I wonder if this is what led to TH discovering this? Perhaps another reporter or editor at JS, who was aware of prior scoops, read the Yost post and passed the info to TH, telling him something like "these guys have beaten us to stories before, there might be some truth to this rumor".

Ryan Braun said after a three-game sweep in Boston that he didn't sense the team expected to win. He may be the one guy on the team who feels safe speaking the truth, thanks to the 7/8 year deal he just signed.
