  1. We need to dump Mota and bring in a long man That'll probably happen when Suppan comes back and McClung (or Bush) goes to the bullpen.
  2. You would think someone would report something on that. Unless I missed something due to only seeing the "squeeze play" broadcast, I have never seen anything like it, umpire makes a call and then reverses it after an argument from one of the managers, without even asking another umpire (or looking for shoe polish http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif)...just bizarre.
  3. what if he makes 4 more starts that average six innings in the playoffs? That would be 177 + 24, or 201, or just short of 66 more than the year before. Would you let him go that many innings? Yeah, why not. Do you think he is going to say: "nah, don't put me on the post-season roster, my arm will surely fall off should I pitch 171 innings (or 180 or whatvever arbitary number you want to pick)". I don't get all the fretting over this, don't know much about it, but my impression is there is not much evidence behind this innings guidline that some are so worried about Parra exceeding. As has been pointed out the team did not seem overly concerned about this last season with with Gallardo...I suppose that is why he is injured this year http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/wink.gif.
  4. That could have been just because this was a late change that they could not plan for much in advance. When there is a day off they all know they will have the extra day.
  5. ...no confidence in the bullpen no matter what the lead these days. Unless Torres starts an inning. Yes, they have had an amazing ability to give up runs late. Brewers are in the middle of the pack for total runs given up, but #2 in MLB and #1 in the NL for runs given up in the 7th and later innings.
  6. It's funny and all...and certainly extremely nice to give away tickets. But Mota was the one guy in the ninth who really did not give up a solid hit yesterday.
  7. Yeah, a double...off Shouse not Mota. Mota gave up two ground balls and a walk, with just a little luck it could have easily been 2 outs with one on at that point.
  8. I know for a fact the lines at Miller Park are cleaner regularly. Yet the JS article stated that:
  9. You got it. They understand football because they really care about it. The fact is that most people care far more about football than baseball in this state. Just as in Minnesota most care more about hockey than other sports (and perhaps more about college hockey than the NHL). Saying it is all they care about is, of course, an exaggeration in both cases.
  10. Not that I have any preference for high life over MGD, but after reading the reports about how commonly tap beer is contaminated http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/frown.gif, I now stick with the plastic bottles.
  11. They do not care as much about baseball as they do about Football...which is somewhat amazing, given that no NFL team plays in the area. I seem to recall having read that the North Stars had poor attendance.
  12. That's a Ben Sheets the Brewers can afford to sign to a long term contract...
  13. And yet, they lost the North Stars and had to get a new team. You could easily say that Football is all that Wisconsinites really care about, yet the Brewers still have great attendance as long as they field a competitive team.
  14. It's not the $10 discount for having scored 10 runs in Atlanta, that is already reflected in the price list, which shows a price of $16 for loge outfield seats. It is also not the summerfest deal, that was an earlier series. In curiosity, I checked quite a few other games and did not get a coupon code box for any of them. (I actually ended up not buying tickets from the team for the first ever, bought from a season ticket holder off craigslist.)
  15. Nope, I checked that and there is not a coupon code box for every date. For example it does not appear on July 5.
  16. I am planning to buy some tickets for the July 4 game. On the Brewers ticket ordering website, there is a box for a coupon code showing up for that date. Does anyone know why that is there for that date? Just wondering if I am missing out on some discount (it's not related to the loge outfield special, the price list already reflects that).
  17. I'm looking at August and September when a team is in the race that they have they're #1 guy there. Does it not matter that they are maybe not even in the race in August and September, if their #1 guy was not there in April, May, June, July? A regular season win is not worth any more on Sept. 15 than it is on April 15.
  18. As of right now, I'd rather they take their chances on making it this season. I'm not quite sure what "6 future years of near major league ready prospects" means, but I certainly do not agree with the idea that we must trade every decent player for prospects and bring up the "stars" from AA and AAA. If they do decide to trade Sheets, it would probably make it a certainty that he would just go to the highest bidder. If they treat him right, there is a chance that Milwaukee could get a bit of a discount. Are some really ready to give up when we are 1.5 games behind the wild card leader and have the third best record in the NL???
  19. I think the point is they can be inconsistent. The rookie going out to start the all-star game may not pitch as well as the veteran that has been there before. If it were game 7 of the WS and you could choose a healthy Ben Sheets or Volquez, who would you pick? Who would most managers in MLB go with? If given a choice between the two for the remainder of the season, who would most managers pick? Total runs allowed per nine innings are a bit closer than ERA between Sheets and Volquez, as the latter has benefitted from having 5 runs declared "unearned" while Sheets has only allowed a single "unearned" run. Not every unearned run occurs through no fault of the pitcher and a good pitcher avoids allowing runs whether "earned" or not. While Volquez has more strikeouts he also has far more walks than Sheets and has also hit 6 batters (0 for Sheets). Total baserunners allowed (H+BB+HBP) by Volquez 117 and by Sheets 108 and Sheets has pitched 9 more innings. Sheets also has 3 complete games and was one out away from a 4th.
  20. Yes, lets never try to compete for the playoffs, lets just keep developing prospects forever. It's so much fun to lose every year as long as I can read here about how the major league team would be improved if they just brought up _______ from AAA or AA. It's up to Mark A to decide what he wants to do, clearly if Cordero was supposedly worth $10 per year for 60ish innings per season, Sheets is worth at least double that, if he stays healthy.
  21. Was he? Because now he isn't.
  22. I think Sheets is in a class by himself, I really don't see that much difference with any of the other four. Any skipping should have maximizing Sheets' starts as the goal. McClung seems to have become a reliable starter. I am guessing that Yost set up the order so that Sheets and McClung break up the guys who do not throw as hard, so he will likely want to maintain that. If Parra needs to have his innings limited that may be a reason to skip him a few times. Skipping someone on Thurs will could give Sheets a start right before the all-star game, where he will likely appear, then he could go again on July 18...assuming pitching, maybe an inning, at the all-star game would not create a problem.
  23. Yes, I think he has gone in as a defensive sub. Probably due to greater range. What I don't get is why Schroeder said Yost would not make any change due to the no-hitter. Is that some silly baseball superstition? I thought Hall should certainly go in given his greater range...if nothing else, something that might have been a hit with Branyon could have become an error with Hall.
  24. Isn't it kind of ridiculous how much the team provides for the players, considering their huge paychecks and don't they get all sorts of free food in the clubhouse too? My kid works at Culvers for $7/hr and has to buy his own special, non-slip, work shoes, I think he's gotten two free uniforms in two years. He also gets one 1/2 price meal if he works an 8 hour shift.
  25. I think winning the wild card and then knocking the division champ Cubs out in the playoffs, with the final win coming at Wrgley, might even be better than winning the division. In addition to 4 with the Cubs in late July, they have 4 in St. Louis shortly after the All-Star break, hopefully they will be looking to either take over or extend a wild card lead by then.
