  1. Looks like the Carlos Delgado hip injury may be a lot more serious than originally reported. NY Post reports that he might be out for the season and the injury is possibly career ending. Mentioned this in another thread, but could this be where Brad Nelson ends up? From the article: General manager Omar Minaya delivered this on the injury front: Delgado has a multitude of potentially career-ending problems in his ailing right hip. It doesn't look promising, but the Mets now plan to wait until Sunday before making a decision on Delgado and what seems to be an inevitable trip to the disabled list -- and possibly could lead to the end of the 36-year-old's career.
  2. With the news about Delgado today, when I first saw that Nelson decided for free agency I immediatley thought about him going there. He probably would be in a platoon situation right away and get at least some regular playing time.
  3. Not to personally attack rm121978, but this way of thinking is one of the biggest reasons that I didn't like college and I hate this attitude with a passion. There are a lot of very successful people who didn't graduate college. This sense of entitlement associated with doing well in college is one of the biggest problems facing this country right now in my opinion. Just because some people have degrees, they feel as though some jobs are 'below' them, or that they deserve to make more money doing something than another applicant who doesn't have a degree.Out of my large group of friends from college, I was the only one who didn't complete college and right now I have a higher and more stable income than most of them. Granted I work in an industry that isn't glamorous or flashy but I've honestly seen more people fail in my line of work who have college degrees than people without degrees who have the work ethic and dedication to be good at their jobs. As a retail store manager who does a lot of recruiting and hiring, I will hire a 23 year old non college grad with work skills and a good attitude over an 23 year old applicant who has never held a job other than school, wants $5000 a year more to start and thinks that they know everything because they have a piece of paper that says they went to college. Edit--sorry to go off on the tangent, but it just irks me that some feel they are so much better off because they went to college. No one from my immediate family graduated from college, does that make us a bunch of bums who have nothing left in life? I really think not.
  4. Academics are important I will give you that, but they just aren't the be all end all of college life. I believe that if you take classes that you are interested in and actually care about, it's a lot easier to go to class and do the work needed to succeed. As a couple of people have said, go to class--almost more importantly, go to class early in the semester and get a syllabus for each class. If you aren't going to attend every class, pay attention to what days you can not miss. Don't ever miss exams because you didn't remember about them. I saw a lot of that at UW-Oshkosh. One of the other best tips I've heard is to use the tools provided to you free from the school. Have someone help you setting up your schedule and signing up for classes, both your freshman year and nearing the end of your college career. I know a few people who went in and asked for help with their schedules and found out they only needed to take one or two more classes to earn an extra minor or double major. Also if possible take the interim classes if they are offered. Three weeks of class for three hours a day can really help you keep on track for 4 years, or it can really lighten your workload during the rest of the semester if you need to work to support yourself. Lastly I second the opinion that you just need to be yourself. Don't do things just because you think you are suppose to or because they will make you cool. Have integrity, do the right thing whether someone else is watching or not. Hang around with all different types of people early, as others have said, most really don't even know who they are as people when you start college so don't eliminate possible lifelong connections because you don't think you could be friends with someone right away. My personal experience: Went to college for three years and it just wasn't for me. I couldn't handle the going to class and not learning anything new. I did well in classes within my major and really enjoyed them, but the basic gen ed classes taught by professors who really couldn't care less just didn't work for me. I "dropped out" with about 3 semesters of work left with over a 3.3 GPA and don't feel bad about myself for it at all. True it sucks to be paying off student loans when I didn't get a degree, but I learned a lot about life and myself in those three years and am a better person for it. To me developing into a better person overall will help you lead a more fulfilling life and get you a job you enjoy, than just studying all day and night to get good grades.
  5. Got our passes for June 6th today. Really excited about the drive in experience at the stadium. Seems like the best off field idea in foooorrrreeeevvvvver! not sure if I'm more excited for the Sandlot or Major league. The GF has already instituted a "no quoting every line before the say it" policy that I think I have to disagree with on those two movies.
  6. Love the mayo on burgers, and LOVE ketchup on just about everything. On a semi-unrelated tangent, I have never been looked at stranger than when I go to Subway and order a meatball sub. Apparently they have something against a meatball sub with lettuce and extra cheese--heavy on the mayo!! Oh so good that way.
  7. I think this sounds like a great idea. I know I have some extra stuff around I would be willing to donate for it, and I'm willing to bet that there would be a few things posted up that I would bid on as well. Mods--if each person who wins an auction dontes through Yuku, wouldn't that decrease the total number of page views for the site as well? That's what I understand from reading the spring donation thread.
  8. I used to really like listening to Peter Gammons. His reporting on Manny is almost making me sick. He is being nothing but apologetic and groveling about how it's not Manny's fault and he didn't actually take steriods, he didn't know. blah blah blah. If he took something that was banned, and failed to check into it---he has to be the one held responsible for doing it. Sorry Peter, I don't care how bad Manny feels about doing it, I bet he's a lot more sorry that he got caught. Now he comes with, "If Manny got caught up with these kinds of tests, everyone in baseball has to be on the look out before they get suspended too." Gammons was the last person on ESPN that I would listen to, apparently I'm MLB network only now.
  9. For those of you who got the audio versions, is it true that they were packaged in styrofoam and not plastic like the regular bobbles? I overheard someone talking about looking for a stryofoam bobble at the game and this is the only thing I could think of what the difference in bobbles would be.
  10. I thought that I read somewhere earlier tonight that all 5 were going to get an extra day of rest since we'll have played 20 games in 20 days prior to the 11th. I can't find the article now though, but I don't think I'm making it up. I also can't remember where I read it, so it may be false info anyway.
  11. So if I downloaded that onto my itunes, can anyone tell me how to edit it so only the five second clip can be saved as it's own file? I would really like my text message alert to say "You can tell Mr Selig that the next time that kid pitches he's probably going to get one in the ribs"
  12. Hey Ross, any ideas about a Coffey time shirt yet this season? At the game tonight I noticed the new Starbucks promotion on the big screen where they time how long it takes Todd to get to the mound from the bullpen and they logo'd it "Coffey Time"--thought something similar might be a pretty popular shirt around here. For what it's worth, it my be my GF's favorite part of the game to watch him sprint in from the pen, for some reason she just thinks it's great.

  14. Wendy's Baconator does the trick for me. For a local place, Sobelmans on St. Paul is my favorite in the Milwaukee area.
  15. great place for breakfast or lunch is Ed's Chili Mac, it's about 10 blocks from Busch on Pine st downtown. It's an old school diner type of place that we make sure to hit at least once every trip to St Louis. I'm pretty sure they are only open till 1 or 2 in the afternoon.
  16. The game tonight was much easier to be at than the last couple but still disappointing obviously. I think what made it the most fun was seeing 3 little kids get balls at their first game ever. One was a foul ball, one youngster got the JJ home run ball after it bounced back onto the field (I really really wanted that one!!) and one really young girl was patiently waiting for a ball between each half inning with no luck until the top of the ninth. The thirdbase ump finally came over and talked to her a little bit and after a series of high fives, pulled a ball out of his pocket for her. It was great to see her excitement. The two negatives in the stands tonight were whoever threw the beer bottle at the Reds leftfielder after JJ's home run, completely classless and should never happen and there was a youngster on the other side of our section who got hit with a foul ball, off Prince's bat in the 6th I think. He looked like it hit him hard and the side of his head was bleeding as his dad ran him up with the ushers. Good luck to him and hopefully he is all right, if anyone knows the family pass on best wishes from everyone else sitting around him in section 127.
  17. I totally forgot about the free ticket deal from last year. Thanks OOOverbay, can you tell me anymore about how that worked? I forgot where I put the actualy handout things, but if I recall correctly all you had to do was show your ticket stub from the last game correct? Any one have any more info on that, and possibly the actual date of the tickets you need so I can search through last years.
  18. Was at the game and it was ugly. About 50% Cubs fans and it was really hard listening to them basically laugh as we walked in 4 runs in an inning. I haven't seen such poor control of the strike zone since JV baseball. Decided to pick up tickets off of stubhub for tomorrow just to see a real pitcher. I honestly can't stand Suppan anymore. I was all in favor of the signing before, but tonight was just horrible. Having to watch him walk into the dugout with his head down and just set his glove down put on a jacket and take a seat was utterly frustrating. I'm not saying I wanted to see him punch a wall or anything, but at least display some emotion about how poorly you just competed on national TV. I know the classy veteran move is to take it in stride, but I would think that another veteran move would be to throw strikes instead of walking in 3 runs in one inning. It was really hard to stick to my resolution of not booing Brewer players for any reason.
  19. Macha didn't have them running on that play. The ball got away from the catcher and JJ took off for second without making sure Prince was going for third. It was a lot more JJ's baserunning mistake than Prince's or Macha's decision for that matter.
  20. What bugs me about it is that even on the brewers.com recap it lists the play as Weeks scoring on Braun's RBI groundout. I understand RBI fielder's choice would be confusing to some, but to label it incorrectly just bothers me for some reason.
  21. I'll throw my name in for the Weeks magazine. You're awesome Pedro!!
  22. Got an email today from the TRats about fanfest tomorrow and the bobble giveaway. Looks like it is going to be one bobble per person and not one per ticket. It also says they are planning on running out of bobbles before everyone gets one which sucks cause I don't think we are getting there until right before game time.http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/frown.gif Quote from email: "Due to the overwhelming response for Opening Day tickets, not all fans will receive the Fang/Bernie bobblehead the night of the game. Fans that do not receive the bobblehead that night will receive a rain check to pick up the bobblehead at Time Warner Cable Field at a later date. When our new shipment arrives, we will post when the bobbleheads can be picked up on our website, . Per Timber Rattlers giveaway policy, one bobblehead/rain check will be given to each fan the night of the game, not per ticket. Thank you for your understanding."
  23. Buy it now deal of the day for $39.99 with free shipping. Inscribed with "Hit King" on it as well. I almost bought the "I'm sorry I bet on baseball" while shopping in Arizona for a lot more than this one. Don't know much about the onlineauctions.com who authenticated it, but it seems pretty legit so I bought one to add to the collection.
  24. We get random special pre-screening passes for movies at work and next week's movie is the new Hannah Montana. I have no use for them, so I figured I would pass them along to anyone here who has youngsters that would enjoy it. The movie starts at 7, but my experience has been to get there very early. I would suggest probably 6 for this one. I have 2 passes that are for you and a guest. The first 2 people who PM me that can use them, they are yours. I work at Mayfair, so whoever wants them can arrange a meeting before Wed to pick it up.
