  1. For better or for worse RR is certainly managing the games to win now. Which is quite impressive considering he is at more or less a 23 man roster right now. Being aggressive with the hook and itching match-us would be a lot easier if used Wang as a specialist at least. Still going to enjoy 10-2
  2. While not every prospect has started hot, a lot of the higher ceiling guys are off to nice starts certainly now that Coulter seems to be finding his power stroke. I'm not afraid to enjoy or plug guys who produce, but enjoy limited scouting hype. However I'd much rather see the players who have the tools produce.
  3. Why worry about being good when you can make the other team play like Little Leaguers. Vodoo is the new market inefficiency
  4. Lohse at 63 pitches through 6 innings. A complete game would sure be pretty nice as a gift to the pen which has been awesome so far.
  5. Great starts are no guarantee and a whole bunch of other standard caveats apply. However barring a pretty epic collapse a great start in the 2 wildcard era does almost guarantee meaningful games well into September.
  6. If Pena finds that level of command for good that would be awesome.
  7. Brett Tomko is still playing in AAA? Boxscore surprise of the night. Taylor has been getting the attention, but after tonight Arcia has put together a nice little line for himself after almost 40 PA. Some power, enough walks, OPS over .800 in Brevard. That would be a huge season..
  8. Sure he hasn't hit even 40 ABs yet, but Taylor is hitting .390 after tonight and showing doubles power like crazy for a pretty young guy in that ballpark in that league that is pretty exciting.
  9. I love him and as a total package he is almost as big of a prospect hit as Braun was, but I'm not confident his bat is quite at the level where I would feel comfortable betting on it into his 30's at market rates. He is very much in that Corey Hart mold of being quite valuable, but not so worthwhile to break the bank on. Those are the players you avoid on long term deals, and stick with Branch Rickey philosophy, better a year too early than too late.
  10. The great start is awesome, but finding a way to keep it going over the next 10 would be huge with all of those games against the Pirates and Cards.
  11. It's even worse because 2 of the first 3 batters that inning would have been lefties. I wouldn't be so critical, but this guy looked like he could legitimately pitch in spring, and wasn't just a cynical attempt to steal a guy at the cost of a roster spot.
  12. First I kind of love having 3TO stud Reynolds batting in front of one of the most anti3TO guys around in Scooter. Second Ron is milking steals out of all kinds of fund angles so far this year. I loved that about the early 90's Brewers.
  13. Nice to see Taylor Green off to a solid start. If he were to hit well enough Swapping him for Overbay would help the roster structure quite a bit.
  14. I'm not inclined to gripe too much with a 5-2 start coming off a win, but when you just got done publicly saying you need to get a guy in the game and you can't find a way to do it up 6 runs with 2 innings to go you are completely asking for it without mercy.
  15. A big inning to let Schafer come in for Braun would be kind of nice.
  16. Talk about the most unearned of runs for Hunstville, no BB, hit, or HBP just the run, error, and rbi in the box score
  17. Any pitcher who returns for a senior year if he is drafted in the top 10 is getting horrible advice. Position players have less downside risk for coming back one year, but there is no guarantee you get drafted substantially higher by coming back one more year and a substantial risk of seeing that first shot at 7 figures go up in smoke with one little twinge. It's a great move for Boras because he can absorb the risk of one guy losing the bet on his health in favor of continually pushing the envelope, but the interests of the player on the agent differ quite a bit in situations like this.
  18. Tyrone Taylor off to a nice start this season with a pair of doubles.
  19. All started with a lead-off walk, forget not this important lesson #1 and #2 hitters
  20. It would be nice to have one of those years on the farm where a whole bunch of question marks take big steps forward. Here's to Dennis earning a fulltime gig all years for Wisconsin.
