  1. Denson with a 3 hit day so far, I hope that is a sign that they are going to start falling for him.
  2. Johnny Davis is starting to draw my interest. Given his background he could easily take a bit longer to develop all of the other parts of his game, but speed and the ability to hit over .300 certainly seems worth watching and seeing how much he can develop his secondary skills.
  3. Gindl is exactly who the scouts always said he would be. To be clear scouts are often obnoxious about this type of player, but he was a guy with solid tools, limited projectability and fairly advanced ideas on hitting. All of which leads to a guy who can race through the minors quickly, but one who ultimately improves very little over the years. His peak was probably a couple of years ago with that really awesome year in AAA. Schafer has more upside than he has shown, while Davis has just always hit but in the ways that scouts don't want to like. Even in his "bad start" this year he is 5th in SlG % on the team. Yes there is a balance to be had in being competitive now vs. playing for later but everyone has ups and downs. The key is to make solid judgements on players and give them a chance to make the adjustments. If we applied the same reasoning to Peralta for example we'd have moved him to the pen by June of last year because of his control. That said I'm completely comfortable with Gindl being up and spelling Davis (currently out HRing the other Chris Davis) some of the time when he'd have the platoon advantage and using him as a defensive guy from time to time. If things are still out of whack by June then you think more seriously about platooning that spot.
  4. That might be a slight exaggeration, but the painful reality for everyone besides us in the division is that they are in an uphill battle to make the playoffs. Even the Cards are 2 games out of a wild card spot with 5 teams ahead of them. I'm sure the Cards will play better and the Reds too for that matter, but with the poor starts they have to play significantly better than a lot of teams to grab a wild card let alone catch us.
  5. Coulter's hot start is enough to overcome Taylor's advantage in being a level higher, in a tougher environment, and more athletic. Interesting, I think it is a fun question to open up how people would rank our top 3 prospects a month in.
  6. If they are waiting for Schafer to be eligible, they could DL Braun right now and snag a pitcher for a few days before sending him back down on Saturday. I'd vote Fiers personally.
  7. Now I know the Brewers record has us all a little giddy, but it sounds dangerously like this thread is promoting the heresy of the Brewers having pitching depth.
  8. A couple more games like tonight are going to turn those batting averages at Brevard around real fast.
  9. I'm all for having minor league squads that don't stink, but there are plenty of vets that could get moved aside for Bradley with seriously hurting either team or impacting the depth (of bodies).
  10. Not a bad start from Peralta by any stretch. Win or lose the starters continue to be great.
  11. More fun trivia Khris Davis has more extra base hits this season than Aramis.
  12. Did a quick peak at the minor league action and the 3 affiliates that are already under way have 3 hits total between them so far with all of them past the 3rd inning.
  13. Not a very exciting day at the plate so far. Luckily things piked up somewhat later in those games. Coulter is really clicking in Wisconsin as he is starting to close in on 100 PAs. The stat line has everything average, power, discipline.
  14. Again there is a huge difference between the idea of the luck evening out (i.e. the karma model) and the idea that the team will not be insanely hot forever. The team will cool off and you would expect them to play at about their projected talent level ( a little over .500). You do not expect them to crater with a horrible month to get back to .500. Last years Pirates (and many other teams) are good examples of this they got hot early, and rode that out for the remainder of the year. Which is why the projections had them pegged as about a .500 team just like us. So far they have played about like that (though somewhat worse). Normally a month in the differences in this would be largely academic, but the Brewers start has been so good (see the article in the other thread about how the vast majority of teams that started as well made the playoffs) that the correct view is to expect them to hover a little over 500 the rest of the year and finish with about 90 wins, whereas the other view still expects 82-83 wins
  15. Too bad he didn't list the teams that missed the playoffs. I wouldn't be surprised to find that almost none or even none of them would haved missed the playoffs under the current format once they hit 18 win mark. The '87 Brewers missed the playoffs for example, but would have easily made it with the expanded playoffs.
  16. Yes, I meant franchise record. Set in August of 2011.
  17. In the modern baseball environment a player like Hart does not net someone a top 100 prospect anymore. I do think there are some attractive options on the second tier market, that would have relatively little cost. However it is really hard to say which if any will hit the market. Dunn for example has hit like crazy and the Sox are only 2 games out. Howard if protected from lefties could be a useful bat for us (but at how much salary). I also wonder how much defense is wise to give up at this stage, a lot of the teams success has been built on defense supporting effective pitching (which makes them look fantastic). Similarly nate is right to wonder how quickly Hart would be made available. Jack clearly has to be trying to keep his job at this point, and the hope of the second wild card would probably keep him going out of sell mode for a long time, unless there was some way to parlay our pitching depth into a win now for win now kind of swap.
  18. Which is interesting because he was billed as mediocre at best. Much like Scooter.
  19. Brewers have a chance to set a new record for most wins in a month (21). I'm not sure what the record for just April is but I like their chances on that one.
