  1. I certainly agree that they will try to do something, I just hope they aim big. I'm not interested in selling the farm but we do have a little bit of that pitching depth and I'd happily trade that for a true middle of the order bat at first for the next few years.
  2. I get being a little conservative on the promotions as things could easily snowball into having to release a vet who was performing, and it is just as easy for what appears to be a problem of too much depth to turn into not enough bodies fast, but you do need to try and get some of those stalled timetables moving now that they are finally producing.
  3. What about Beltre and sliding Aramis over to 1st for the remainder of the season? That should amount to a modest offense bump and a nice bump on defense.
  4. In short yes it would be very nice to deal a veteran pitcher at a premium for other needs. Hopefully either another short term player that really bumps the team up for this year (i.e. a real 1st basemen) or a high quality prospect at a position of need. Gallo fits that description pretty well.
  5. In the past we've voted on 20 or so and you are likely to end up with enough different votes to hit at least 30 prospects total.
  6. Jeff Pickler
  7. Between being short handed and in a mini funk they did a great job snapping both. The team did such a nice job building a good sized lead that they just needed to prevent a tail spin and they can keep this thing going all summer.
  8. Well originally I was just going to say I was only half serious because Zarraga clearly isn't going to continue to hit .400. Ultimately though those are the sorts of adjustments everyone has to make AAA to the majors and are the factors well considered by MLE, since his game is not unusually dependent on a flukey performance in any area, he hits for enough average and with little, but enough power to keep pitchers honest, so the OBP should still be there in the majors. Now the more interesting things I learned while going back and reviewing his stats. He only started switch hitting a few years ago, and since his first year of switch hitting he has tended to hit RHB better than lefties (which is kind of crazy given he is a natural righty). Even more crazy his draft mate Gindl has almost 3 times the minor league plate appearances! I think he's had a couple of injuries over the years, but mostly he has been relegated to bench duty. Which on the positive side means he knows how to deal with it.
  9. Nice game already for Delmonico, Brevard was already my favorite box score to check, but with him at 3rd their is a position player worth keeping an eye on at every position most nights. It also feels like they could be rounding in to a very potent offense by FSL standards. Ramirez was a guy I had been kind of ignoring, but he just keeps hitting. Still his profile screams Hunter Morris to me right now, which isn't too exciting is there something else to his game that would possible make him more than a potential so-so platoon guy?
  10. I'm not going to hang a banner and declare victory, but Nelson, Taylor, and Coulter are all having really good seasons and so many of the pitching prospects are atleast having success that things are certainly in a better spot than they were 6 weeks ago.
  11. I was originally loathe to draft an injured player, but if they could get the appropriate discount on his signing rate that could be very valuable later in the draft with managing that signing cap.
  12. If the average is high enough, everything else becomes gravy.
  13. Right now the power development is the big concern, getting A ball guys to walk you isn't too hard but that skill will shrink mightily as he goes up the chain unless he is a really threat when he makes contact. That said he is certainly worth following, and could surprise in the mold of so many other not terribly heralded prospects the Brewers have produced recently.
  14. 2 more hits already for Zarraga, I'm happy his worked on his catcher defense, but can he play first with his .463 batting average? Taylor's SLG is now just under .500 putting him 6th in the FSL, which is pretty great given his age and position along with a solid command of the strikezone Denson and Coulter have both gone yard already tonight, plenty of baseball to fill the Brewer less night.
  15. The May numbers are less than 30 ABs, but he is definitely having a good month with an OPS over .900. I certainly want to see it continue, but given his age and the level jump I'd definitely start to get really excited if he keeps it up for the rest of the month. It could be very justifiable to write April off. Meanwhile Coulter just keeps hitting. His stock has to be rising pretty well.
  16. People are weird when it comes to motivation. I'll take a solid defensive catcher with OBP skills as a cheap back-up anyday.
  17. Maldy has been hitting like crazy, but putting him at first instead of Lyle is just trading one light hitting option for another.
  18. I keep hoping that Marty Brennamen will keep trying to run Votto out of town. The good record certainly lets you wait and see more of how the roster sorts itself out before you commit any resources to a trade. I worry that with Morales being an unspectacular defender and the lay-off that the improvement part Reynolds might be uninspiring compared to the salary. It think there is definite value in looking at the bench situation and making a smaller move there for the right kind of piece (Bianchi is nice and versatile and a good defender, but you still need something more than a designated out). After that I'd be opportunistic in that there are a lot of potential soft spots on the roster that could be improved under the right circumstances. Will Scooter hit enough? Davis? how will Aramis age?
  19. Seems like a move made in reaction to 'end the skid' and nail down the win. I'm generally sympathetic to the idea that the manager has more info on various guys on any given day, but it's pretty hard to justify not seeing some guys from the backend of the pen the last two innings.
  20. Tyrone Taylor's extra base hit pace would put him at over 90 in a full (162 game) season of ball at his current pace. Which is mighty impressive given league, park, and age. The OPS is pretty good, but not great right now. Still its hard not to view this as a really good season for him so far.
