  1. I've always had a dislike for the stat heads that insist on using integrated photon counts to measure player performance. Of course they try to sneakily mask there numbers with verbose prose, but measuring photons is still measuring photons. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif
  2. I think ESPN will explode this weekend.
  3. I must admit that Richardson stealth improvement had eluded me to this point, but I wholeheartedly agree that it is very nice to see real improvement in the prototypical raw toolsy player. I wonder if he has an outside shot at being the highest rated position player in BAs top ten next year?
  4. It's worth noting that Corey has posted quite a bit more OBP this year, and he has seemed to find a balance between swinging all the time and the year he left the bat on his shoulder too much. Given that the OBP gap expectation between the two narrows in my mind. Add in his apparent lack of comfort and it's reasonable.
  5. Note that Niekro averaged 14 more innings per season, which would provide a fair boost to his WARP every season.
  6. I like Arnett as an option (they get shiny 1st rounder) and then I'll put Morris on my list.
  7. I would be very surprised with Boras as his agent to see K-rod accept arby, especially since he's 29. His chances at the best long term deal are this offseason if he performs well. While it makes sense to focus on getting to the playoffs, the whole special playoffs sauce thing is built on bullpens and pitching being more impactful in the playoffs then during the regular season. In that sense there is some bonus value in improving the bullpen as well, if you cross the playoff threshold. Other random thoughts, anybody think of any rhetorical bets that have been made in the past involving the Brewers getting a guy in a straight salary dump from a large market team? It would be kind of funny to dig out that kind of quote right about now if one existed.
  8. Given his performance this year, I think you can only do Furcal if you've been scouting him for quite awhile, and your scouts can pinpoint him having transitioned from struggling with an injury to 'looking normal'. Barring that look elsewhere, we just need to hit a single here.
  9. The size of that buyout, particularly through the Boras lens makes me think that he likes the idea of it not vesting. He can make the same salary next year by his new contract only paying him 14 million a year, which is still fairly steep but Boras probably figures he can get that, and if he gets him say a 3 year 45 million dollar contract K-rod is way ahead. Someone else brought this up, but if the Brewers can do the buyout, but still offer arby this could be a ridiculously good trade. If Doug can find that acceptable with the stick and average defender at SS this team is looks really good down the stretch.
  10. What are the odds that he adds that much more power production to his total? Either Giles of Gonzalez would be a major coup.
  11. Demand base pitching, everyone in the crowd gets a clicker to select the next pitch http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif
  12. I'm trying to come up with a comp for Gindl, good OBP guy, reasonable power, and average to above average corner D. Any ideas? I was kind of thinking Brady Clark, who had a pretty good run, but Clark was about 2 years older than Gindl at every level.
  13. In the grand scheme of things the moves for the last couple of weeks were relatively small potatoes, and generally fairly reasonable. Melvin has a decent history of really taking stock around the break, and here's to hoping they get some of the very fixable roster moves ironed out by the time they start playing again. Ideal world we have our SS upgrade, and they figure out whether they want to go with Gamel sharing time a 3B with Casey or Green. I think handing things over to Green is probably the better win now move because of the defense part, but I'm sure there is a desire to reward Gamel and really try and test drive him somewhat.
  14. Career wise Barmes and Betancourt have similar OPS totals, and similar OBP though Barmes typically on the high side of .300. So the current offensive difference could be something of an abberration (Or not), but the defensive upgrade would be huge.
  15. That Eddie Perez HR was a Brewerfan special as I recall seeing it from the Terrace.
  16. Walla's off to an OK start so far, definitely hitting better than in Arizona the last 2 years. It would be nice if some of that power started to develop and he turned into something.
  17. Morris' power is enough to think of him as something of a prospect, but Halton's lack of power at first, and relatively advanced age really makes me question him a prospect. He could luck into a fringe career as a bench guy maybe with some positional versatility. I would not say that first is relatively deep
  18. He showed a lot of positive mental adjustment. To me that's huge, it would have been very easy for him to put together all kinds of attitude, and give the organization reasons to doubt, wonder, and start developing plans to move on. Instead he's done a pretty good job being a company man, improved on his contact rate, which could have been his downfall in making the transition, done enough on defense, and didn't comeout trying to hit the proverbial 5 run HR with every swing.
  19. Given the option issue, I think it's pretty clear that Gamel would come up over Green. Whether he stays up the rest of the year is an interesting question. I think that depends a great deal on where his defense is at. If he has come along reasonably well, it would be fantastic to add his bat off the bench, and at this point he has a fair amount of big league experience, so I'm guessing he could do OK with the less regular playing time.
  20. Definitely yes on Keppinger.
  21. I'm not as sure on an even comparison of players in their undrafted states, but if we had signed Dylan with his performance so far this year and only having the one draft pick we'd have even more people jumping off the cliff. Arnett and Dylan struggling that badly in back to back years would be just as bad for the farm system as all the trades. Obviously Dylan's got some extenuating circumstances and still has plenty of chance to turn it around, but the conversation would be dire indeed.
  22. Betancourt, one of our surplus relievers like Parra or McClendon, and a random other non-top 20 position prospect. Or something like that. Granted we've still got a couple of those relievers on the shelf, but as a group they are cheap and have some track records of success so they are quite valuable to other teams.
  23. Are you sure he didn't fall just on signability concerns http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/wink.gif
  24. Too early to give up on Casey, on the flipside it's also too early to think Green is ready. You have to give Green a chance to be adjusted to at AAA, and Casey out to return to at least adequate. Next year is entirely different story however. Casey bloomed late with old players skills and bad defense. as a nugget he is hugely valuable, but he is definitely a guy you don't want to extend, and if Green looks OK with the bat they out to flip Casey in the offseason, bank the real money saved the player they get back in trade, and the big defense upgrade, and accept that the offense might be somewhat less, but could easily be comparable going forward.
  25. Toby by that comment do you think he could be solid in the Counsell role of rare replacement at SS, but frequent bat off the bench.
