  1. I'm sure that the Brewers are plenty convinced of Salome's bat, but they are letting him refine his defense. Which is a lot easier to do with pitchers he is already familiar with and a level he can handle offensively without slumping.
  2. notable number if you project Salome for 700 PA, which is a good benchmark for an eerday big leaue player he would still have fewer then 100Ks. For a young power hitting prospect that is a rather impressive number. On the other hand players like Cain and Ford have some serious work to do if they are not going to be exposed at higher levels. Gamel looks to be within an acceptable level for a power prospect.
  3. Well you have to be very encouraged by Braun hitting substantially better playing at a higher level in a tougher hitting environment. I want to see it stick, but his OPS production in Huntsville right now is definitely the stuff of elite prospects.
  4. Just throwing this out there how about nominating Drew Anderson for a sneaky good performance, so far this year. His Sta line going into tonights game for Huntsville .350 .410 .283 (obp/Slg/BA). I don't know that this translates to being a starter, but considering the giant sucking sound that is the Southern league on offense that's some solid production. Keeping in mind that Corey wins league MVP with only 40 more points of OPS than that, I think Drew maybe underappreciated as a prospect.
  5. 9th inning meltdowns are so much more entertaining from the opposition.
  6. Prediction: if Braun is called up to Huntsville he will put up disappointing numbers and have his prospecthood questioned. Between merely performing well at A+, and the absolutely brutal effect Huntsville has had on even our best hitters his numbers will look very forgetable. Remember Corey was league MVP with essentially an .800 OPS and Prince and Weeks had somewhat similar results.
  7. Just want to make sure on the location of the tailgate and which exit I should use.
  8. If Bush and Davis perform as well as can rationally be expected coupled with Sheets returning this team can very easily turn around the pitching problems. More quality starts means fewer innings by pitchers we are praying can perform well. It can be a very powerful feedback situation.
  9. I'm not a huge draft follower in any sport. I am interested in who my team picks, but even in the lean years here I didn't get too serious about the draft before hand, with high picks, desperate need, and flashy players pre-draft debating was entertaining, but we've got a lot of second round or later picks on this team, and trying to predict those picks in baseball is really kind of silly in my opinion. That said after I know who we've picked all this info is great and I try to keep up on all of our players. Some of it comes down to a lot of trust in Jack overall, and when your biggest criticism is that he occaisonally can't resist the temptation to draft a high school pitcher in the first round he's doing a pretty good job.
  10. Well for the time being it certainly looks like the Sounds are trying their best to give Doug "problems" for next year. If TG keeps up with his new found power spike and Krynzel doesn't fade that's 4 OFs and both Rottino and Enrique Cruz are knocking on the door as utility players that can hit. The pitching situation is far too chaotic, but there could certainly be pressure their too. I predict widespread disagreement with so many similarily qualified players competing and some good Brewerfan threads.
  11. Correct me if I am wrong but is not he FSL supposed to be one of the best pitchers leagues in the minors? And if so does that not make the teams offensive numbers so far down right freaky?
  12. June 17th looks doable
  13. That's not a bad possibility and I have reason to suspect I'll be getting tickets to one of the games for my B-day in May. With my kids the Sunday game works better (July 2nd). I'm for trying have a little get together then.
  14. Any idea on when FanFest is going to be this year?
  15. here's a link to the article I wrote for the website on this one www.brewerfan.net/fullArt...ticleId=83
  16. I did do a series of articles a couple of years ago on a lot of the BP stats and giving nice thorough explanations if you guys wanted to link those in, you could also relive some nice Brewer moments with the player of the week.
  17. You can probably fudge some comparative statistics, but the most similar player to Bert is Eddie Murray. A really good player forever. Would Eddie be in the Hall of Fame if he had only 2987 hits? I have a sneaking suspicion that the answer would probably be know even if that's only what 2 or 3 less hits a year? Probably not and for somewhat similar silly reasoning. If greatness is defined as being vastly better than the norm than being a well above average pitcher for 20 years certainly qualifies and fits my definition of HOF.
  18. I think you misread the chart a little bit bjames. If Rluzinski did his math right the brewers have that 42% chance of finishing at .500. Plus the 26% chance of finishing at 82 wins, plus the 14% of 83 wins... So the real probability of finishing at .500 or above is over 70%. That seems a little high to me. I guess my expectation would be a little closer to a 40% chance of finishing at .500 and roughly 30% above .500 and 30% below.
  19. I think Corey projects interestingly into a 5th or 6th place hitter. He's not a huge OBP guy, but he does hit a lot and that's an RBI type slot, and you'd like his ability to get himself into scoring position either with the extra base hit or the SB for the lower slap type hitters in the order.
  20. Hart and Prince a Combined 5-5 so far with 2 doubles Prince up to a .278 average Hart .313. I'm not big on the small ball thing, but I sure like Hart's athleticism and all the triples and SBs it gets him for a slugger.
  21. Angel's making it hard to be cautious. All of a sudden the Power is the place to watch. They look like the Cards of the league plenty of mashers and more than respectable pitching. And Huntsville with a snowman in thes econd tonight!
  22. We've all paid a fair amount of attention to Vinny, and despite some defensive struggles he's done alright. A utility player with a bat is always an asset. Enrique Cruz though with another solid night. I haven't looked back, but my recollection is that his current .830 OPS is about what Hart did in his MVP year. I'm not sure exactly where he fits in, but he certainly adds some real depth in the middle infield for the short term should we need it.
  23. Don't tell the new guys that the Sally league is a pitchers league
  24. I firmly believe Angel should stay in Rookie ball this year. 1) How many prospects have we seen struggle offensively while focusing on defensive improvement? He's young enough that you can focus on defense this year at a level where he's fine offensively. 2) How many Pioneer league mirages have we seen lately? There's no guarantee he will continue to hit if he moves up. And number 2 can start to influence number 1 and cause immediate prospect implosion.
  25. One thing the Brewers do have going for them is that regardless of which way you slice the Pythagorean record they have underperformed thus far, whereas a number of other teams are playing above their heads and likely in for a little reality check. At the start of the season the Brewers had something like a 3% shot at the postseason according to a variety of predictions. According to BP's in season estimator they are now just under a 10% shot at the postseason. Not anything worth betting the farm on, but a positive step. All things considered I wouldn't hesitate to do a deal as a seller or a buyer depending on how things play out. Basically don't be afraid to sell anything you get a good price on knowing most of the players we could replace that we would trade. At the same time you can hold off towards the end of the month and if you catch a streak it could easily be worth an investment to buy at the deadline.
