  1. On balance I can live with this loss having had the pleasure to watch that inside the park home run in person from pretty good seats. The Brewers have some of the worst luck with having runners on. 32TB and 4 walks and they only had 9 runs. Disappointing in that regard, but all in all it was a great game. We know have 5 players with .500 slug's in the line-up and with Hall back we could get to 6 by the end of the year.
  2. If Keith Richards can still be alive anything is possible. Differences in normal body chemistry and other drug habits probably have a lot to do with it as well. Hammering down gobs of booze to go with your steroids isn't the nicest way to keep your liver going. And there maybe a chicken and egg thing going on, but the fact that Randy Savage (long live Bonesaw!) and Hulk kept wrestling as long as they did indicates perhaps less dependence on steroids, or just better fitness overall.
  3. Chris would almost certainly be a goner if he wasn't our only lefty in the rotation. I have a feeling that will make Melvin hesitant to get rid of him. Right now Vargas is much the same in terms of service time not quite as valuable as Cappy because of the handedness, but that would be my guess if any starter gets dealt. At this point though there's only two types of deals for the Brewers to do. One look for a rent a bullpen arm to replace Spurling/Capellan or two ditch a starting player and atleast one really good prospect for an All-star type player. This is the real difficulty of having a team filled with solid players. Finding improvements is difficult unless you shoot for the moon. The problem we'll face with any player that good is long term salary or alternatively giving up too much for a 1 year rental.
  4. Will was too happy about being called up. Now he will be mad the Southern league won't like Will when he's mad http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/devil.gif
  5. Billy was just saving himself for the stretch run this year http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/wink.gif
  6. Except that we are 8th in runs per game, 1st in slugging and 8th in OBP. It would appear in part that some of the problem of the solo HR is a self inflicted wound with not enough players being patient and getting more men on. On the other hand using the quick and dirty OXS formula we would be predicted to have scored 312 runs so far instead of 288.
  7. The one pattern that is definitely emerging over the years with Jack's drafts is that you really need to look at every player drafted to evaluate it. When he hits on a later round player it is not a fluke. The profile of player he drafts ends up with some high profile flameouts, but he consistently finds players in the later rounds who develop and that is not necessarily common or to be taken for granted. Arguably that was the key to Atlanta's success was their ability to consistently crank out MLB players from more than just the first round or foreign free agents. Point two when considering the notion about the worst crop of college hitters... That doesn't mean that the players are not good. The third basemen last year were supposed to be the holy trinity of 3rd basemen for the next decade. That's pretty special. You can have a down year and it could still be the case that your top level talent is very good you just lack in depth, or you don't have the 5 tool players just the really good sluggers.
  8. So are you planning on keeping a running tally of articles about the minor leaguers over the years Brian? That would be an incredibly awesome resource.
  9. Well it's certainly a situation where drafting him may be considered an investment outside of whatever talent evaluations they might have. If Rickie can get on track batting average wise then. Getting to play with his brother maybe the kind of enticement to keep him around longer. And there are some fairly strong teammate bonds on this team that could snowball to help keep other key components here. Slight side track but is it not possible that Prince isn't so much concerned about the huge mega pay day as he is torqued off that his dad ripped him off? Which is to say with that bonus money gone he went for the complete opposite type of agent?
  10. Right now the Brewers system reminds me of Atlanta during their run. Hey we just promoted some guys, and we've got a whole new crop coming up. It's one thing to hit on your first rounder, but development wise the Brewers sure look like they are getting to the point were it's just a continuous flow of quality. I feel like this is the deepest we've ever been on the farm even though we'll probably take a hit in the rankings when Yo and Braun are off the list. A comment on Sarfate I think the best comp maybe our very own Turnbow. Great stuff erratic command took a long time to develop.
  11. The thing is there is something of a disconnect between a Scouting #1 and a practical major league ace. I'm quite confident that no scout who saw Maddux back in high school said this guy is an ace and might even be a HOFer. The primary requirement to be an ace is to have a 95+ fastball and enough of two other pitchers that the guy can say you might have two ++ pitches and atleast an average third pitch. Scouting wise there are only about 15 major league pitchers who get rated as aces. Practically it should be your 30 best starters in the league. Yo's problem is going to be he doesn't quite have the highest horsepower fastball in the world. It's not deficient but it's not eye popping. My guess is that given his excellent command he could throw harder he chooses not to and this is something the scouts miss. Bottom line I'd say odds are pretty good that Yo has more then 1 season as one of the 30 best pitchers in baseball.
  12. In a hypothetical world where Yo duplicates all of Sheets periperhals he for all the world is going to look like a better player because he'd likely end up with a 20 win season or so given the current roster and a number of 15+ win seasons, which would lead to more Cy Young votes possibly an award... You can then extend the argument backwards a figure that Yo doesn't have to be anywhere as dominant as Sheets was in 04 and could still look like the better player superficially. Especially if management does something like call him up in the next week and the rest of the team starts playing better. Suddenly he becomes the guy who saved the season.......... In the end neither player is even close to being done with their careers so it's impossible to say because both are ace quality pitchers in my book and it really comes down mostly to health long term.
  13. Actually it is in the union's interest to cap rookies. THe union represents major league players not minor league players. They want less money for them and more for the current MLB players. Every 10 million dollar mega contract to an unproven minor leaguer is less money for a union voter.
  14. Random speculation that Brantley may move back to Brevard and swap with Gillespie once their first half is out of the way. Unless he starts lighting it up which would make it kind of hard to send him down.
  15. tipys this is a family forum no need to use that kind of harsh language http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/wink.gif
  16. It was pretty fun after the Brewers postgame last week XM runs extended promo's and they ran about 2-3 minutes of his interview. I'm glad to see all his hardwork was rewarded when he got the job with Perfect Game
  17. One of the doctors was described as a pediatric specialist which either means the patient was a child or possibly because he was the junior physician it was an adult and he was assisting for the experience.
  18. I agree I stopped paying attention after watching distance estimates where they'd say the HR only went 415 except that it landed in the upper deck, while guys would get 440 somehow on lower deck shots. I think Hit tracker actually uses physics to compare apples to apples.
  19. I seem to recall the Dhonks that Balfour had a lot more minor league success than Jones whose career has almost been a dead ringer for JM Gold. I hope he was wise with his bonus money.
  20. Correct me if I'm wrong but isn't the Sally league a slight pitchers league
  21. Liked Spidey 3, the crux of his character really does revolve around his moral choices, and you have to like the symmetry of the plot in that regard. Some curious choices, but only minor quibbles from me. Haven't seen Pirates I'll probably wait for video at some point. I have to disagree with you Robert I have very low expectations for all the rest of the Harry Potter movies. After the first they got worse not because of any serious director fault, instead the books have gotten so much longer that there is too much story to cram into even a 3 hour movie and there's no really good way to cut out most of it. The passage of time gets really messed up. Here's an interesting review site www.thenutgallery.com/index2.html
  22. I agree the steady climb of Prince is certainly reason to be positive. Is it too early to talk about him taking the season HR crown? Probably, but Prince developing into that All-star caliber player is one of those things that needs to happen to make the playoffs.
  23. It sounds bad on the surface, but this is really a sign of progress that we are no longer collecting as many of these marginal players as possible to see if one really shines. The cash can logically be turned into something more exciting like paying for some of this year's DFA crop.
  24. Having been nominated I've decided to go the silent route and draw my salary while Doug keeps up the good work http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif
  25. Not to rain on your parade Mike because that's some great work, but Ben wouldn't have gotten credit for that many wins, so that's a little misleading, but It's hard not to say CY young award for that season.
