  1. Just glad to see Ned is watching a similar game to the rest of us and that despite Bennet's inability to call for hte curveball Ben has improved his performance.
  2. Well we could always call up Erickson to have a short and pathetic swing with 2 strikes to play third. Sorry Bruce but the player you want just ain't available to Milwaukee. Just like the part time supermodel with seven figure salary, but really likes to be a homemaker most of the time just wasn't available when I went looking for a wife http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/wink.gif
  3. Definitely a good night for some of our hitting prospects. Weeks now with a .373 OBP, which is pretty darn good in the Southern League. Corey Hart getting hot again raising his OBP to almost .350 which is pretty good for that league and especially that park. Krynzel gets a couple of hits to flirt with .300, but you can't help but question his game a little bit with his relative lack of power and still King that often. Heether continues to pound out doubles.
  4. Hey Jim you said yesterday that Beloit didn't have to win the second half title to make the playoofs as long as Kane County did. But doesn't the extra playoff spot go to the team with the second best record in both halves then and not the runner up in the second half?
  5. Certainly fun to see the snappers scoring some runs. A reasonably productive Steve Moss seems to be making a big difference in consistency for them. Clay Blevins nice OBP, but hasn't shown any power yet in his first 60 PAs. in a similar vein Alciedes Escobar flashing a healthy batting average and acceptable eye, but no power. Not exactly a surprise for a skinny SS from Latin America at age 17. He is striking out quite a bit, but not at red flag levels. He could end up being very exciting. For those not counting at home Hart was on base 5 for 8 in yesterday's DH. Krynzel only played the one game. Despite the injury you'd have to think that with the impression he has made before a really strong showing the rest of the way could go a long way to putting him on the Brewers roster in the spring. And I think we can reasonably expect to see him and Hart getting some September ABs hopefully producing more than dramatic foul balls http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/wink.gif
  6. I don't see Huntsville's team being enough to keep Indy with us. There's a couple of reasons for that. One as Hfan pointed out is that look at what happened to last year's championship squad from AA as they moved to AAA. Second is look at what the Stars have actually done this year. Maybe they wouldn't struggle as much next year jumping AAA, but I've said it before most championship AAA depend on some quality veteran minor leaguers and how many of those do you think Doug will actually add to next year's team? Third look at those prospects and look at where Milwaukee might be next year. It certainly doesn't seem unreasonable to think that a number of those big names might not see more than half a year at AAA. Sure Melvin tends to be methodical with his promotions, but you know he's high on Prince, and wouldn't hesitate to put Weeks at second if he were tearing it up and it could concieveably boost the Brewers in a race they could very well be in next year with their pitching staff. Nope we'll be affiliated somewhere else next year.
  7. Well I'll add the following opinions. I'm fairly impressed that many of us seem to be quickly moving through the morning phase as we eulogize the dream of the late June Brewers 2004. I think that's a positive, because at this point the year has been an unbelieveable success in team building. Many are pointing back to Spring training when the popular opinion was that the team lacked power...... Boring! I want to talk about what the real weakness of the team was then pitching! Specifically starting pitching as we kind of thought the bullpen would be OK. What did we need absolutely the most to jump to contender status? A real my god we're glad we don't haveto face him ace. We'll surprisingly Ben finally turned into that player, and despite the minor league injuries we still have quite a few starting pitching prospects AA and higher who could fill in other spots in the rotation. But it gets better! Not only did we get ourselves an ace, but we found 3 other guys (Capuano, Davis, and Santos) who while probably not the #2 starters they've been this year will slot nicely as a middle of the rotation in the future, and were still finding out about Hendrickson. We could very well go into next year with the same rotation with no obvious reason to talk about wanting serious competition in spring training, just looking for depth!!!!! And this all is more significant because the critic was yeah well the farm system has hitters (quite specifically some serious power hitters), but trying to build a pitching staff is tough whilethe hitters can come together fairly quickly.
  8. I think we purchased our current exceptional major league health at the expense of the minors. We are looking at what the end of July and having lost a grand total of 2 players months to injury? That's nothing. On the other hand it seems like fully half of our top pitching prospects have missed atleast some time this year, which is high even for pitchers.
  9. I think perhaps that the bar isn't moving so much as the definition of "for real" has changed over the course of the season. Through May or so it was a question of is the team really this good that they will be watchable after the Sexson trade? After that for real meant can they finish .500 or better, and now it's will they actually stay in the playoff chase?
  10. Gwynn with a triple tonight, it certainly seems like he's been banging a few more extra base hits lately. We're at the stage of the season where raising the old batting average can take a long time with 1-3 and a walk nights. Weeks also has been smacking more doubles lately notice that he only has 3 less than Brad Nelson. All good to see.
  11. Given the alternative I'd much rather have Ben "I own the Cubs" Sheets pitching after we visit those hosers from Pittsburgh then before. Just a little scheduling magic.
  12. It's quite simple really if your a second basemen you need a perfect throw so you set yourself to tag Prince perfectly so as to not get killed when he lumbers in. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/wink.gif
  13. For those who didn't run the Math if the Brewers win oth games today they will be in the lead for the wildcard atleast on percentage points regardless of any other games. And they will have sole possession if the White Sox continue their winning ways against the sCrUBS. They also of course pick up atleast half a game on every other team in the division. Some pretty interesting match-ups as interleague play wraps up. Houston vs. the Rangers certainly holds the promise of pushing them farther down. the Chicago teams are pretty evenly matched. Cleveland vs. Cincy are slugfests and late rallies waiting to happen.
  14. For those new at following the lower levels of the minor leagues a couple of tidbits. 1) It's OK to get excited about rookie ball hitters. 2) Don't count on rookie ball hitters especially college players, both Arizona and the Pioneer league are offensive leagues. 3) Get excited about pitchers with high strike totals and atleast manageable walk totals. That means you've got to like what Barnes is dealing down there.
  15. Ah it was a great game to be at today! I was shocked that Jenkins stayed in the game after getting hit. First thing out of my mouth was there's the DL. I couldn't believe that Gardenhire let Lohse (worst starter) stay in after loading the bases with 4 lefties in a row due up! That was some mightily unclutch managing. And Yost really had him after he'd burned through only 2 of those lefties and finally brought his LHP in. My wife was laughing hysterically at the futile efforts of the Twins Good grief they walked Billy Hall (and I let them hear it!). If not for Guzman being hot today the Twins would have looked absolutely pathetic.
  16. Definitely nice to see the Stars winning, rather than losing. Idle speculation: Noting that Nelson and Hart are just extra base hit monsters, it kind of stands out that Prince has significantly fewer doubles than they do. It's common for minor league doubles to turn into major league HR as the power guys develop, but we also know that Prince has plenty of power already. I wonder considering the detiriorated strike zone adjustment this year if he hasn't gotten homer happy in his approach?
  17. I'll be at Sunday's game too. Watching tonight's on TV yeah!
  18. I was just looking at the Rockie OF Burnitz in center and Sweeney in LF???? An old Walker in RF. Put the ball in the air, and keep running.
  19. 3B DHonks, they decided after his less than inspiring rookie ball numbers they'd try out his arm. A little disappointing, but it's much better to make the switch early.
  20. So we've got Big Ben, little Ben, and Manny today? Hmm that's some good stuff. And one can't help but be intrigued by Justin Barnes for atleast a few starts to see how his position swap is going.
  21. Well there's something to be said for not OVERdressing. But you'd want to show up in court in your best outfit, and if your best outfit is everyday where in the ol' trailor park you might want to mosey on down to Walmart and pick up a nice pair of pants and a dress shirt of something like that.
  22. I don't know pogo, but very little predicts things better than a consistent trend upward in statistics as a player rises through the levels. I like that spiffy .294 average to go with the power too.
  23. Listening to the game today and after getting all excited that I had finally heard an insidethe park HR I was very tee'd to be robbed of that by the official scorer. It's the home guy fro crying out loud!!!!! Anyway the Pods fly out was to deep center up against the wall, and thus the run was earned.
  24. Not sure if this belongs here, but since it involves promotion talk. So I was thinking about the Ben Ford situation, and if I'm right we have to send someone down to bring him off the DL. And presumably we just want to send Ford down as well at this point. The issue is we can't recall the same person we send down without waiting 10 days. So isn't this the opportunity to take care of 3 problems and send down Wes when Ford comes off the DL and Promote Little Ben as the replacement??
  25. Quick note while enjoying that I got to watch Friday's game and listen to last nights. I was curious about Jenkins month to Month performance. He had a solid April with an .850 OPS which isn't awesome but it's enough to keep the offense going pretty good. His May was Gary Bennet like at sub .700 and thus far his June has been near an .850 again. What's interesting is that he hasn't had the Jenkins like surge this year, but has been pretty good 2 of the 3 months. Maybe he's just saving that big series for the Cubs http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/devil.gif
