  1. Your probably right about the week long process thing, with maybe a few signings to come and some promotions. I'm sure you'll be busy with the transactions http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif You can doit!
  2. Because we look ahead and Baseball America kindly provided the list it's interesting to note that between both college and hgh school the top prospects favor the pitchers heavily. Counting the two way high school guys as position players I think there were 6 positions players total in both top ten lists. Veyr interesting and preliminary.
  3. A catcher talking about hitting, man I love Lou.
  4. I was surprised to see that Hardy wasn't ranked higher, specifically higher than Upton. I don't see how Upton could have a high enough ceiling that it would be higher than what Hardy is doing in AA right now. But given the depth of the question I'm sure he rushed it a bit and all the guys on the list are great prospects.
  5. Promote Prince and move Brad to LF that'll solve that power issue http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/happy.gif
  6. Well ultimately in 5 years Beane will be rebuilding again if he's still with the club. Sooner or later the money is going to catch-up to him and those 3 pitchers aren't going to be around. Despite all the draft picks and low risk the limited draft budget is going to erode the farm system of the top tier star players he needs to regenerate the team. Combined with the normal ebb and flow of teams and he'll be on the downswing. That doesn't really take away from what he's done, because you need to have a pretty large budget to be able to sustain success. He'll also be getting squeezed more on the margins as many of his strategies are co-opted by other teams and he has less of an intellectual advantage. It's likely though that he will inevitably be judged on whether or not he delivers in the post season, which isn't entirely fair but it is life.
  7. Well I hope so to, but Kremblas I'm sure was under a fair amount of pressure to deliver that first half title, so he went with what had been working the most. Knox is a pretty good 4th OF to have on a AA team though. With the title won Clark and Noochie should be starting in the corner spots most nights
  8. But Colby he was the ultimate Beane pick how could he not be polished http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/eyes.gif . BP's arrogance on the subject of college players is humorous and down right silly. I bet Jack Z is just waiting for everyone but him and the Braves to go to all college players so he gets a first shot at the kids. When someone shows me some data that your better off drafting pure college players especially in the later rounds let me know.
  9. I'm not sure if your right or not Peavey, but after getting whipped last year the agents of first rounders might be trying to stop the bleeding if possible while teams try and clamp down a little more this year. Also Oakland had like a dozen picks in the first and supplementary rounds mostly of the signability variety, os they could have accounted for most of the work by themselves.
  10. I guess the question is what kind of prospect was before this year? If he was a 5-10th round talent than it's a pretty sweet pick. I don't think you can count on him making a big step forward from whatever he was as a junior, since he's working back from the injury. But nothing like an unconventional DFE
  11. Looks like a pitch to contact kind of guy. I could certainly see the Brewers giving him a look. And dare I say he'd have been a better bet than Ritchie. A season with some luck on ball in play and he'd look awesome.
  12. Been awhile since I made any minor league comments. It's really been quite a difference in the Indians since Rushford returned and all of the moves that came afterward. Glad to see we're not going to have to put Cecil on suicide watch. Speaking of Jim he hasn't hit quite as many extra base hits as he usually does, but he's hitting for average and getting on base like always. Him and Zocco are very similar players and I'd like to see at least one of them rewaded with an extended look in a supporting role. There's 3 different pinch hitting situations 1) Starting off an inning just looking for a guy to get on base usually. 2) Close game men in scoring position just looking for a base hit (or as we call it the why on earth are you letting Jose K hit with Lo on the bench situtation). 3) The spot where you've put guys on and your best bet to get back into the game/win is the HR. 1 and 2 are more common than 3 though being able to hit a HR is an asset in all 3 situations. The point is that as occaisonaly replacements, but primary pinch hitters both players have good skill sets for what your going to be trying to accomplish in those late innings. More on .300 hitters, this time Huntsville where JJ, Corey, and Dave are all hitting above that line. Dave is in the top 10 for the league at .312 and the others are only a couple of points behind that. All of which enforces that they are really good hitters in a pretty good pitchers league, though it probably helps a little that they don't have to face their own staff http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif . JJ just keeps on stroking the ball over the fence and taking an awesome amount of walks (pace of about 100 in a full season) not striking out much at all. Dave we've talked alot about all the thigns he's doing and the few things that could use a little work. Corey is really the least advanced of the trio though. He hasn't shown quite the power he did in HD last year and his plate discipline hasn't been very good. He's still hitting over .300 which is good, but I'm hoping that after he's not so focused on learning 3rd that he can develop a more advanced approach and be looking to drive his pitch more often. Have him talk to Richie!
  13. Well coming from VMI I'm sure he battles.
  14. I'm surprised Beane old buddy didn't add Anderson to his system before we did. Sounds like an interesting sleeper pick
  15. Hank Aaron it is! May we be blessed with 20 years of awesome play.
  16. It's hard to argue that the best player available fit that pattern, but I could argue that at a certain point best player available becomes something of a red herring. Is your best pitcher in that round that much worse of a prospect than your highest position guy? I still tend to think there's more to developing players as an organization than there is in drafting them.
  17. There've been a lot of other athletic ball players can't they use another name, any other name that's all I'm asking for.
  18. I know the Indy guys are disappointed and they should be, but The Brewers do seem to have made a serious effort to augment the team in the last week or so. Let's see if things don't improve some more for the rest of the season.
  19. I hereby outlaw all comparisons of Weeks to Gary Sheffield. Don't these people realize that's just plain offensive?
  20. Phil Hendrix, now there's some bloodlines http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/happy.gif
  21. Well based on the picks so far it seems like a good bet that Arizona will only get a few raw prospects from the draft with most of the college kids going to Helena and some of the advanced ones starting higher probably Beloit (Weeks and Gwynn stand out as decent bets to be in Beloit soon). Here's to hoping these DSL kids can make some noise.
  22. And the draft balance appears to have swung to college kids. Looks like there ae some interesting bats and with pitchers anything can happen
  23. I find the CF thing interesting, but it's not like you can't put 2 CFers out there in LF and CF as long as one of them hits like a LF. So I wouldn't sweat that one, nothing wrong with covering a lot of ground in the OF.
  24. Since we've wandered into the realm of what ifs. I ask do you think that Sheets would have developed differently in Oakland with their methodology?
