  1. I'll repeat myself I'll take free runs anytime, save the pride until we have a championship
  2. Talk about a scrub pitching line, age 26 with two cups of coffee and a career WHIP way over 2.00 and you put him in in the 6th down only a couple.
  3. Bobby the Brain Hennan
  4. I can't help but shake the feeling that despite last year's competitive team being an unexpected freebie their slump down the stretch (probably more fair to say playing closer to their talent level) has still created a very big cloud for the current team to overcome. So yeah for a W
  5. Well a chance to try and salvage some value for Clint here.
  6. Worth noting that Baseball prospectus had a story up today that would suggest utility players are actually undervalued because we have systematically over estimated how hard it is to learn any new position regardless of position on the defensive spectrum.
  7. Given how many of those guys have already been up and or could contribute in specific roles it is definitely not a case of just having too many people hanging around. Oddly enough when you are playing kids to get experience I can see why you wouldn't want to just have a bunch of people fighting for playing time.
  8. I would be stunned if he got claimed, but all things considered I'd take any heat (I really don't think at this point there would be that much fan heat) and just let him go. That would free up a lot of money for doing other things. I too had hoped in a more limited role he'd be able to put up reasonable numbers, but that doesn't seem to be the case. And at his current rate there is a serious risk of him being a complete roster anchor rather just really then expensive depth
  9. I can't see dealing for Scherzer if he does clear, but the Brewers in my mind would be on the shorter list of teams that could actually risk putting a claim in. Though with holding onto Harper it does not seem like the Nats are inclined to just let him go, but that deal does have a lot of money going towards a pitcher in who'll be aged 35-37.
  10. That really gives the team all kinds of options to go offense/ defense/, L/R, or guys just needing a rest platooning. In prior years I'd be worried but CC does really seem to have a pretty solid overall record in these areas.
  11. I'm very OK with trading Ortiz, pitchers with that much health trouble do not interest me as valuable assets to hold onto. With young lottery tickets like Carmona it is trickier because you want some to hopefully have enough to develop for you, but on the other hand almost all of them amount to very little. I disagree with the lack of high ceiling talent I see a fair bit, but again a lot of those guys can also flame out before really doing anything.
  12. A shot to finish July with over .500 record overall despite a 7 game losing streak is impressive.
  13. Some of the list difference is also timing, Monte had helium coming into the season and Ray did not, Top 100 rankings tend to have some serious lag depending on the source.
  14. It's only a little over 100 ABs, but holy cow Aviles .811 OPS seems to have come out of nowwhere. He was definitely not some one I was really keeping track of at all. Second comment given the profile of most of those AA hitters next year in Colorado might be completely ridiculous.
  15. I have no problem with the price, maybe Phillips develops somewhere else but I also get a vibe from him at this point that that will take him a season or tow of mediocre numbers he'll pop with an interesting prime and just fade kind of fast. Big offensive improvement for sure especially since the park effect really suggest he could go off down the stretch for us. From the GM who finally figured out how to make the closer concept irrelevant I'm providing a fair share of trust (also after 1.5 very competitive seasons) that he knows something we don't about the defense.
  16. Ray's K rate in July is still down from June even with a couple of 3 K games in the last week. And still lower then his season total from last year. His average has come up noticeably in that week plus stretch as well. We'll see if pitchers can figure out an adjustment on him, but things looks pretty solid and he has a noticeable shot at 30 HRs for the season now in a pitchers league. Comparing his current season line to Broxton's 2014 line in double he's shy a few walks and hits but has more extra base hits including a sizeable HR advantage in basically the same number of ABs right now. Broxton was also a year older in a more neutral league.
  17. Grand Slam for Ray tonight!
  18. He's made too much improvement in the K rate to stick with a 30 rating. His floor is Keon. If there was an amazing premium talent available for a long time maybe I'd deal him but Ray is the kind of prospect you need to keep around and hope develops to keep extending that competitive window. Otherwise you are stuck cycling through the short 3 or maybe 4 years when you have enough young guys in their prime and cheap enough.
  19. I don't have a huge problem with the price and when it comes to draft picks I really really don't care where the value comes from. Laporta netting us Sabithia being a good example of trading at high value. With pitching prospects I'm even more willing to make deals. Any pitching prospect is automatically higher risk and in this case we traded pitching for pitching. There is something to be said for maintaining internal depth to have options to churn through as well while you try and find pitchers that work, but it is a solid move to add another lockdown arm.
  20. I enjoyed it quite a bit and had not previously caught anything nearly that in depth about Williams, so they were definitely some interesting surprises in there.
  21. Don't forget another hit and 2 more SBs for Ray as well. Quite the month of July he has had.
  22. I'm very excited about how little of his breakout is driven by batting average increase. Those are always the most volatile. At the same time he has upped the walk rate a fair bit and dropped the K rate to help support the increase in his stat line. I would definitely put him and Hiura as high top 100 prospects right up there with Prince and Braun back in the day. If Gatewood could have a similar break out we'd really be in business.
  23. I'm looking at those 4 innings from Nick Ramirez and rooting for him to out WAR the entire rest of the Brewers 2011 draft class, though Lopez still has a shot to do something good.
  24. I'd hesitate on Arcia too. There's enough there with the glove that warrants giving him another shot next year, and see if he develops back into at least adequate. We don't also have a ton of other internal options at the moment. Switching gears I had largely ignored this thread until yesterday and I was very intrigued at how low some of the prices were. I'm perfectly happy dealing a depth/ second tier prospect or 3 for a rental. We are facing a potential big roster crunch at the end of the year many of these deals are a chance to get real value for players we might otherwise get nothing for because the Rule V draft (or they take a spot and we lose someone else). But top flight pitching prospects and Hiura are a definite no.
