  1. The ballot is diminishing though. Garciaparra, McGwire, Trammell and Piazza will be removed from last year's carry forward and the only additions were Wagner and Hoffman. Raines and Bagwell are locks at this point for 2017, Hoffman looks real good as well with a showing higher than many expected.
  2. To me a contract like this shows me Braun needs one more good year before being moved. If he shows something again in 2016, he will have a contract comparable to this.
  3. Funny, I just watched Million Dollar Arm yesterday. They were pitchers though. One of them still is in the Pirates organization.
  4. [sarcasm]So... you are a Sith?[/sarcasm] No, but he is a Star Wars fan and that line always makes me laugh because a Jedi is the one saying it when the statement itself is an absolute.
  5. It would be fine. I think it would have to be further down the road before he would maybe take a deal though if the Brewers want a 1 year deal and Pearce is looking for a multi year contract. He would certainly get an opportunity without Rogers around but probably also wants security as he will be 33.
  6. I am probably more excited overall about sports in Wisconsin than negative. Wisconsin basketball for sure is down with repeat final fours and Bo Ryan in the rear view and lots of questions going forward. However, I think Marquette and even Milwaukee is on the upswing. Badger football as well is moving in the right direction again after the disaster of Gary Andersen. The Packers will have a chance to win it all for at least a couple of more years if they address their weaknesses. The Brewers have a real nice farm system and chance to add even more prospects so things are looking up as there are no more questions of when they will rebuild and they are actually in the process. The Bucks even with a bad start are still on the upswing and a pretty good future in my opinion. With all of the talk of Orlando Arcia we can forget that Jabari and Giannis are younger than him.
  7. No -- absolutely not. He's 28 & it's very clear that he's not going to improve notably. GMs & talent evaluators don't make small-sample assessments like fans assume they do & like fans themselves do. Just like a club that liked him wouldn't hesitate to trade for him if he had a bad month to start the season, a good month or two isn't going to change things. He can't change his value immensely in either direction at this point... and it can honestly only go down. Come on man, only a Sith deals with absolutes. Just silly, of course he could doesn't mean he will. If GMs don't care about small samples then there is nothing to worry about as the will still have right handed power when the trading deadline arrives and teams need it.
  8. Right, but in the regular season the player has to clear waivers before a trade can be made with the original rule 5 team. I'm just curious if a trade can be made with the Twins now for Jones in the Cotts trade since Jones can't be put through waivers now.
  9. Does anybody know if in theory the Brewers could get Zach Jones as the PTBNL still? It does not appear that a rule 5 player can even be put on waivers until 20 days before opening day so is there a window where a trade can be made and the rule 5 restrictions are lifted?
  10. Kyle Wren changed his photo on Twitter.
  11. That is correct, the Brewers were playing like a 100 loss team after the trades last summer and have only gotten worse so it will be very difficult to not lose 100 games or to somehow have some miracle run to start the year. Nelson, Peralta, Jungmann would have to take monumental steps forward and Garza would have to return to the pitcher he was a few years ago.
  12. As we saw last year even if the team shows some signs of hope, but not .600 level type hope, key players will be traded at the deadline which is why I think the team still loses 100. In the hypothetical above I think Mark A learns from the past and doesn't believe the mirage while Stearns sticks with whatever plan he has.
  13. Ren himself needs more training, he is nowhere near the level Vader was at the time. Ren was also toying with Rey until the end. I don't see Ren as weak, just not as evil as Vader. Ren still sees the light side.
  14. Interesting move with Pinto since he is out of options. Something has to give here, maybe insurance in case Lucroy is traded. I would think there isn't room for both Nieuwenhuis and Peterson on this team.
  15. There is a new book that is aimed toward young adults that has three short stories covering Poe, Finn and Rey. It is somewhat surface level regarding Finn but there is some additional background. Pretty cheap too of you want a quick read regarding Finn.
  16. .293/.370/.341/.711 is something they should be concerned with? I mean it's not stellar by any means but its not horrid and it's only been 10 games (46 PA). Not sure what player stats those are but they are not Santana. 181/244/217/461
  17. I agree that there isn't really all that much to spoil. Considering it is the first movie it did a good job of establishing new characters that you actually care about though, something that was not done very well with the prequels. The success of the new movies will depend on what is done next, will they be able to go to the next level creatively without the crutch of nostalgia.
  18. Fine with the trade. They get another lottery ticket that hopefully eventually hits. At first glance it seems they are trying to fill a need in CF at the big league level which I really wouldn't agree with. However both Broxton and Rogers are older and if Broxton pans out they might be able to get even more from Broxton than they received from Rogers in trade.
  19. I thought the letter was good and honest. Not a big deal but Mike Fiers still has four year remaining and he was a big factor in why they got more prospects from the Astros.
  20. Those were not announced until the middle of February.
  21. I think it will take the biggest hit since the Selig years of 20%, or 2,034,046. While I think many fans understand the rebuild, it is the first time in a long time where it is pretty much unanimous the team will stink and that will keep away some of the casual fans and the people that come because it is the thing to do. It will be interesting to hear the season ticket numbers.
  22. Not much downside, also not much upside either, just kind of pointless. Don't know what Jason Rogers has to do with anything except they are the same age unless you are saying Middlebrooks should play 1B over Rogers. Rogers is obviously the better hitter there and much cheaper going forward.
  23. I guess he could be part of some platoon with Cecchini. Quite frankly though I would rather see Perez at third against lefties if they go with Cecchini against righties or even Walsh. I don't see much upside with Middlebrooks.
