  1. I don't see 30 HR as his peak. Let him play another year full time and his value should be even higher. Sure, if somebody offers something great then take it but a Will Smith type should not do it.
  2. Definitely have a chance to pick up ground next week with a brutal 7 game stretch at Chicago and St Louis. Would be nice to lose a couple to the Reds this weekend.
  3. I don't think any of those guys will get a pass. Many voters have shown they will not vote for guys that might have used like Bagwell or Piazza. No chance Pettitte gets voted in. Maybe by the time Ortiz retires and waits his 5 years things will die down a bit.
  4. Nice to get Houser as the fourth guy in the trade. Wasn't really doing well with Houston but has been lights out since coming here.
  5. Is this also pick players out of a hat day?
  6. Nothing to lose but perhaps another player if they decide to keep him on the 40 man in the off season. Kind of an odd quote from Gord Ash on JSonline: "As I told him on the phone, this is more about next year than it is about right now," Brewers assistant general manager Gord Ash said. "He has an option remaining for next year and we don't have a lot of outfield depth (at the top of the farm system), so this gives us another piece. It sure sounds like they want to keep him on the roster and I don't know where he is coming from when talking about outfield depth. Probably have Reed/Wren/Phillips at AAA next year and perhaps even Roache.
  7. Everything I have seen indicates Fields can't play center in MLB which reduces his prospect ranking. Definitely would put Wren over him. Fields was the Tigers 26th ranked prospect in a bad system. Also a bad arm so pretty much restricted to LF. The Brewers already have one of those and he is much better.
  8. As stated before, the Brewers will not lose a year of service with Sardinas as they made sure he did not accrue a year of service. They control him for another six years through 2021.
  9. Can't really hit and doesn't appear like he will stick in CF. Would probably prefer Schafer over this guy.
  10. Rule 5 protection for the Brewers is discussed at viewtopic.php?f=64&t=32999 Too early to really tell who might be available as every team will add prospects after the season. I do agree though that the Brewers will have to think about keeping an open spot on the 40 man as they do not look like a contender in 2016. However, that also leaves them open to losing a prospect as there are a number of players they won't be able to protect.
  11. Doubt it but it still helps the bottom line no matter the intention.
  12. Schedule makers doing the Brewers a favor again with attendance by putting so few home games in September.
  13. They kept Sardinas in AAA long enough where he cant reach one year of service time this year. Knebel will be just short of a year as well.
  14. Hoping for a Rangers home game.
  15. I was at the game yesterday as I did get the free BP tickets. Probably the most dead crowd and least attended I have seen in at least a decade. Reminded me of the old days at County Stadium. Announced attendance of around 18,000 but plenty of no shows as the entire terrace box was sold out with the BP promotion but plenty of empty seats there.
  16. I don't think Briggs is suggesting any conspiracy theory here. Melvin himself said he wanted Davies to step in and take Fiers role. It was probably already predetermined Davies would be called up in September, he certainly wasn't called up due to his great performance in AAA after he was traded.
  17. Pretty good sign that it is a lock that Hellweg will be removed from the 40 man.
  18. Not in favor of wasting service time but fine with having cheap, low ceiling guys like Wren or Guez fill in for a year. Not opposed to giving a guy like a Span or Stubbs a shot in CF if they take a fairly low salary but realistically not going to be able to flip them for much of anything anyway at the deadline.
  19. My guess is that they would need a lower budget as even the casual fan isn't expecting much next year. Attendance should drop, not drastically but perhaps in the 2.2-2.3 range.
  20. Matt Clark is making a push for a September callup. After two consecutive 600 OPS months he had his best month of the year with a 1.090 OPS. Luis Sardinas and Matt Dominguez also had their best month in August.
  21. Dominguez has done nothing in the minors the last couple of years, would prefer Olt over him. Would actually like Olt to start most games at third in September.
  22. Thornburg and Dominguez for sure won't be eligible for arbitration probably not Schafer either.
  23. Braun's OPS this month was his highest since August 2012.
  24. Well yeah, a lot easier to get somebody through at the end of spring training plus somebody could get hurt or traded.between the end of the season and start of next year. Schafer is a waste of a roster spot.
  25. Add Wren after spring training and protect another prospect by letting Schafer go.
