  1. The Brewers issued a small statement on the death of former infielder Mike Coolbaugh per milwaukeebrewers.com. MILWAUKEE -- The Milwaukee Brewers organization offers their deepest condolences to the family of Mike Coolbaugh, a former player for the organization who passed away Sunday night. "We came to know Mike both from his time with the Brewers and the Texas Rangers organization, and the news has hit us very hard," said Brewers Special Assistant to the General Manager and Director of Player Development Reid Nichols. "Mike was a kind and hard working individual who lived life and played the game with great passion. He will be greatly missed."
  2. I wonder if the Bonecrushers can lure any of the former Mustang players back to Milwaukee. Is Kevin McDougal available?
  3. Our former rival wide receiver Curtis Conway has married Laila Ali recently. I wonder what kind of family they will have. A bunch of football players and boxers? This sounds like the next reality show for VH1 where Conway and Ali get the usual husband-wife arguments, you think Ali could punch Conway out?
  4. http://i193.photobucket.com/albums/z317/jaybird2422/pg2_a_bucknercubs_400.jpg This picture is no joke. Bucker used to play for the Cubs.
  5. When I was ready to board a plane at the Dane County airport to New York one morning, me and my professor (who I had to travel with for the journalism conference in NYC) spotted Gov. Jim Doyle at the terminal as we were getting ready to board. My professor knew Doyle's family and introduced me and then it turns out we were both going on the same plane to Detroit (layover). Doyle was headed to China and me and the prof to NY. The prof introduced me to Doyle and it seemed like Doyle had his own personal air marshal with him. I also went to high school with Washington Wizards' Caron Butler (I was only a freshman and he was in his last year at Racine Park). He came back to visit a couple times and I met him and he shook my hand and said, "How you doing man?"
  6. When I was in New York for a National College Journalism Conference, I had a chance to check out the sites and went to a Knicks game at MSG and was less than 10 feet from Spike Lee when I was given a media tour of the stadium (part of the perks of being a journalism student at a national convention). I asked the usher if I could go down and get my picture taken with him and they said, "Do you belong down there?" Needless to say I walked away empty-handed. At the same convention, I was at the ESPN Zone in Times Square and followed Tom Tolbert, formerly of NBA Tonight on ESPN, and got my picture taken with him. Then a year earlier, I was in Dallas for yet another journalism conference and had the honor of attending Kevin Blackistone's workshop of column writing. The man was on Around the Horn and before he began the workshop, he said something to the extent of, "only drunken college kids know who I am."
  7. I may be the last person ever to join myspace, but for some reason I got roped into it by a long-lost friend of mine who I was friends with my freshman year at UW-W and I just finally signed up for it yesterday and now I can't get off the internet. I have found yet another way to waste time. Who here has myspace? Can I add you?
  8. I once made fun of Freeway at a Brewer game when he continued to say the Cowboys were going to win the Super Bowl because they got Alonzo Spellman.
  9. When I was at UW-Whitewater as the sports editor, I had a chance to interview Doug Henry, who served as the pitching coach for the team. He resigned at the end of the year amid controversy when he punched out a UW-Oshkosh player during a brawl between UW-Whitewater and UW-Oshkosh. Pitcher Kevin Tomasiewicz of UWW hit his former teammate, who was batting for Oshkosh and the benches cleared. Henry is now with the Braves organization and Tomasiewicz is now with the Mets organization.
  10. Dunn to Milwaukee rumors are just that, "Dunn." Not as in Dunn deal, but not Dunn... not happening. I called Cincinnati's Radio 1530 studio line and they haven't heard any speculation regarding Dunn to Milwaukee.
  11. I just tried calling Doug Melvin's office and the secretary asked who I was so I hung up.
  12. brewers255, regardless of hammering out the last minute details on the "potential" trade, the acquiring team has the right to request a player involved in a trade be sat during the given game.
  13. I hate to burst anyone's bubble, but I highly doubt Dunn will be in Milwaukee at any time unless he is in a Reds jersey. This all seems like a rumor started by one person and everyone just played the "telephone game."
  14. Emmett Prosser is in charge of the Brewers weblog on jsonline.com and hasn't mentioned any unusual activity going on in the clubhouse or the field. He hasn't mentioned any players leaving the field, just that Gallardo is on the mound.
  15. The longer this rumor lasts, the least likely it is true. Pure speculation. If only I had a radio next to me to hear WSSP.
  16. I have a question regarding Winter League Baseball in Latin America. How long have they been running things in Latin America? Is there an English web site around where I can look up the history of the winter leagues and see what they are all about?
  17. The first ball I ever got in batting practice was in 1991 when the Brewers were playing the White Sox. During the entire batting practice, I kept on hassling Dan Plesac the whole bp for a ball and he kept saying, "Hold on kid, I will get you one." Then when bp ended, he came up to me in the bleachers (I was with my dad and older brother) and he said, "Here you go, kid. He signed it for me." That brightened my night and he was officially one of my most favorite Brewers ever. Plesac was a class act all the way. I was 8 years old then.
  18. I have an idea. Why don't we name some obscure Brewer players and give a useless fact about them? I will start.... Former Brewers 2nd baseman Pedro Garcia gave MC Hammer the nickname "Hammer" as a kid when he was the batboy for the Oakland Athletics because he resembled Hank Aaron as a child.
  19. I had or have a lot of money issues when I was full time college student, I was so careless with money I became the victim of thousands of dollars worth of payday advance loans and I am still paying for it despite my mistakes being 2 years old. Because I did a lot of payday advances, I had to take a few semesters off of college and file for a forebearance on all my college loans. Totalling two of my cars (once for falling asleep at the wheel since I worked too dang much one summer, 80 hours a week) didn't make matters any better. My grandpa once said, "If you can't afford something, you don't need it." My gramps is right about that. All of these factors have lowered my credit score to the point where I can't be eligible for a used car loan anymore (my credit rating was actually in the 600's when I was 19) and now I would be shocked if it is near 400 today (I am 24).
  20. I was watching CNN last night (Nancy Grace, the most annoying newscaster since Ann Coulter) and it said they had "rape stands" for female dogs to breed new ones. My God, how sick can these guys get?
  21. Just consider yourself fortunate that you went through your first three years debt free. I have accumulated in upwards of $23,000 in debt thus far and I haven't even gotten my degree yet (I have one more semester left). I had some grants my sophomore year but they took all of them away because my older brother (who happened to have a scholarship at Carthage and paid his own way) moved out of my parents house. Bless the parental contribution where people believe parents contribute EVERY time.
  22. I am anticipating people throwing things at me when I say this, I voted No in the poll. There are just too many question marks right now. I am so pessimistic about the Brewers' offense right now because they can't hit their way out of a paper bag as a collective team that I am starting to lose faith.
  23. I say that Franco should keep playing until teams no longer even give him a second look. If he can still be a role player somewhere and if he still enjoys it, why not keep playing until his heart doesn't desire it anymore?
  24. Here are a couple tidbits I looked at online... - Reggie Sanders is reportedly interested in going to the Red Sox if traded. - Jermaine Dye has been frustrated since the Sox signed Buerhle to his contract extension and both newspapers, the Tribune and Sun-Times out of Chicago have reported that Dye has been distant in the clubhouse and hasn't said much to his teammates since his teammates extension. The Sun Times reports that Dye's agent approached the Sox about an extension, but did not receive any positive feedback from the team. - The Chicago Daily Herald, out of Arlington Heights, reports that Lou Piniella and Cubs officials are interested in re-acquiring Kenny Lofton and possibly make a pitch for closer Eric Gagne. My thought: The Cubs are definitely buyers right now. I have read some reports from other web sites and the Brewers could be vulnerable at the deadline with the loss of Sheets for an extended period of time. Now that Sheets is down, teams may ask more for some of their pitchers because starting pitching is now a "need" position for the Brewers.
  25. If this rumor is true, a lot of people don't realize that Dunn can spot Fielder at 1B when Prince needs a day off.
