  1. Tonight Erick Almonte and Sean Green are in key spots for the Brewers with the game on the line (and fail miserably) while Corey Hart and Manny Parra are playing in Nashville for what seems to be continuation of endless rehab stints. If football was like baseball, Aaron Rodgers would have been in game 7 of his NFL Europe rehab assignment on February 6 instead of in Dallas.
  2. I can't wait to see how Corey Hart went down to New Orleans and went 4-6 with a HR while Kotsay and Almonte go 1-for-11 in Philly. The Brewers are desperate for a right fielder and another hitter. They could also really use some bullpen help. However, Hart and Hawkins are going to be playing in the minors the next several games. Would it really be a big deal to just start playing in Milwaukee?
  3. Here's my new thought on Gomez. Would you give Gomez and $1 million to any of our rivals, with the stipulation that that team has to start Gomez?
  4. The low IQ of Gomez was offset by the high IQ of Weeks who busted it to get to the plate well before Gomez was thrown out.
  5. What's the ruling if: - a pitcher gets the first two outs of an inning and then a batter reaches on an error.- the next pitcher comes in and gives up a home run? This may be a case of the first run being unearned on an individual and team basis but the 2nd run being unearned on a team basis but earned on an individual basis. Perhaps something like this occurred this season.
  6. Last year's 11th round pick Greg Holle is a guy to keep an eye on. He's given up 2 ER in his first 26 professional innings, is 6 foot 8, and throws in the mid 90's.
  7. These are the best points I've seen yet. This is how it's done in basketball. The LOSING team decides when the game is over and pulls its regulars. That's the sign to the winning team to stop going 100% to keep scoring. If the losing team is still trying its best to win, then the winning team can do whatever it wants. My guess is that at that point in the game, the Cubs still had their regulars in and were trying to win the game. If that's the case, then why is it fair for one team to try to win and not the other?
  8. I didn't know the appropriate place to post this, but you owe it to yourself to go to the 4/10 game recap / highlights on jsonline, get to the 3:30 mark, and listen to Uecker's call of Casey's home run that beat the Cubs. Think Ryan Braun 9/28/08 or Rob Deer Easter 1987. http://www.jsonline.com/sports/brewers/56616762.html
  9. What about the forgotten man, Mark Rogers? Do we expect him to spend an extended period in the minors or move up to Milwaukee as soon as he shows he's healthy?
  10. Is it possible that Gomez lost his full-time job before April 5. Would this be a record?
  11. Greinke would be a fool not to take this offer!
  12. A bunch of issues have come up - notably Greinke's ribs, Marcum's shoulder, Lucroy's finger, and Hart's oblique. As a result, we'll have some additional stress through mid April. However, especially considering what happened in St. Louis, I don't see any of these issues even being remembered by the time we get into the meat of the season. The national media has seemed to jump on the quantity of issues (not the magnitude) and dropped its expectations of the Brewers. Those in the know, though - if they originally thought the Brewers would win 90 games - I don't see how the current issues would change expectations much below, say, 88 wins.
  13. Marco Estrada seems a logical choice for the #5 spot. It seems like pitchers with good changeups (like Estrada) tend to do well in the beginning of the season and power pitchers (which Estrada is not) do better in September and October. Estrada could actually be pretty effective in April.
  14. [quote author=danzig6767 wrote: [/b] The Brewers aren't going to ask their new prized player to forfeit a few game checks over this situation, regardless if it was a dumb thing by Greinke to do. Plus, they want Greinke to be happy in Milwaukee so he will want to stay in Milwaukee long-term. Nickel-and-diming him wouldn't be a good move.
  15. Is the audio just for spring training or do you get regular season games, too?
  16. I remember back in the mid '90's Jamie Navarro was a stud pitcher for the Brewers. He was the ace on the '92 team that led the AL in ERA by over 0.5 ER/game. The following year or two Phil Garner started screwing around with pitching Navarro in relief between starts. Navarro was never the same after that. I thought the relief outings between starts screwed up Navarro's career and what Harang says supports that belief.
  17. I heard Betancourt's deal isn't his glove but his throws to first. Maybe Sveum or someone can work with him to correct it.
  18. A game I like to play. Two degrees of separation between Gary Sheffield and Yogi Berra. Sheffield's first major league season was also Steve Carlton's last major league season. Carlton's first major league season was also Berra's last major league season.
  19. What if CC wins 20 games and the Yankees go 85-77 and finish in 4th place in the AL East with and old team? Is it possible a player would seek to get out of New York solely for improving his chances of winning (not to mention leave what would likely be a relatively depressing situation)?
  20. It would actually be a 1-2-3 punch including Gallardo. And then if Rogers develops...
  21. Another deal (Werth is another) that makes the Hart contract look like a bargain. The Brewers owe Hart about $35 million less over the next 3 years than the Angels owe Wells. Hart has had better offensive years than Wells in 3 of the last 4 seasons.
  22. With the off-the-charts NFC championship game being played this weekend, I was thinking about situations where the Brewers have put me in a similar frame of mind. #1 for me is game 162 against the Cubs in 2008. That may have been the most nervous I've ever been about a sporting event. In baseball, with the payroll discrepancy and fewer teams making the playoffs, you never know when your shot for a playoff berth may be your last for a long time. It would have been crushing to the Brewers to lose that game - and making it against the Cubs' B squad would have made it that much worse. When the score was 1-0 Cubs for so long I was close to losing my mind. Instead, Braun and Sabathia turned it into the most exciting moments in 25 years for the franchise. With the Packers / Bears, I have a feeling even if the Packers lose, that they'll have similar opportunities in upcoming years. Even with so much at stake, there doesn't seem to be quite as much at stake as the Brewers had in October 2008. Another aspect is imagine a game 7 NLCS between the Brewers and Cubs. I thought of this and realized that I have much more hatred for Cubs fans than I do Bears fans. I think Bears fans respect the game more (even their outliers are fairly reasonable), whereas Cubs fans typically know little about the game and have outliers who are flat-out punks.
  23. With the apparent depth in the back end of the bullpen, is it tempting to see if Loe can compete against Narveson and Rogers for the 5th starter / first injury replacement spot, or do you not mess with a good thing?
  24. Here is the only thing I could find on the net. You have to work through a few minutes of nonsense, but Pat Hughes's post-game show, including the Deer and Sveum highlights come up in the background.
