  1. I would think your winning percentage in sweep games might be lower than normal because chances are, if you won the first 2 games of the series, your ace had pitched one of those games, and the opposing team's ace hadn't pitched yet - today being an exception.
  2. The most obvious reason it's fake is the author knew enough about baseball to put down a list of believable names - yet didn't think the list would create buzz?
  3. If we were winning home day games this year, we would consider the shadows as just being part of the home field advantage (like the cold for the Packers, the wind for European golfers, etc.). It would be a non-issue. Since we're losing miserably in home day games this year, it's obviously gotten into the Brewers' heads much more than the opposing teams' - who should be equally affected.
  4. To eliminate the glare from the batter's eye, couldn't they put up something like a fake tree to get between the sun and the batter's eye?
  5. Yo has really struggled his last 2 outings, with high pitch counts. There also is presumably a plan in place to limit his innings throughout the season. Why not bring in the 5th starter a few days early to face Verlander in Detroit, give Gallardo an extra day to freshen up his arm, and let him face the Mets Monday with an extra day of rest. I just don't see a high probability of Gallardo winning on Sunday.
  6. One step closer to this actually being true... ttp://www.theonion.com/content/news_briefs/turns_out_craig_counsell
  7. Maybe it's a sign. Maybe Case McGehee is "The One" who will bring us back to the World Series! And get 5 hits (like Molitor did in that game) or 4 hits (like Yount settled for).
  8. I just think it's cool that he was born the same day as game 1 of the 1982 World Series.
  9. The DiFelice elbow/bereavement situation easily cost the Brewers 2 games this week. Hopefully he's back and near 100% by Tuesday. The other setup guys need some rest.
  10. Sometimes it's not a horrible thing to come back from a road trip a little PO'd after a tough loss. It might lead to better focus on Tuesday night than if they had 50 hours of feeling happy about themselves.
  11. Ironic that you post this today because these three players reached base a combined 10 times today.
  12. If 70% of the players were using 5 years ago, 60% use today. I still think most players think of the testing and other anti-PED methods as being a joke. Congress will likely step in and force increased penalties - perhaps a 2-year ban instead of a 50-game ban. Maybe they should just bring every MLB player in front of Congress and ask if they're a PED user. If a player says no and then gets caught, then they go to prison. I was listening to Jim Rome today and he said Manny Ramirez is on track to get enough votes to start in the all-star game. Perhaps fans just don't care. I don't care about the practice except to the extent I fear a key Brewer getting caught.
  13. http://www.baseball-reference.com/boxes/MIL/MIL198808280.shtml The Brewers had a Yount and a Young, and the manager screwed up and put down Yount twice on the lineup card, and the ruling was that Yount got ejected when his second spot came up. For those that haven't heard about it, the Rays had to bat the pitcher 3rd instead of Longoria on Sunday because the manager screwed up the lineup card. (fixed link --1992)
  14. There's a right way to do it. If you're smart and pick your spots, and as long as you realize that the moment you start inconveniencing those in the pricier seats then it's time to go back upstairs, then it's fine.
  15. If he hangs around .850-.900 all year I will be watching playoff games at Miller Park.
  16. Rickie's RBI total is just mind boggling. An NL leadoff hitter on pace for 70 RBI's is unheard of, and Weeks is on pace for over 100.
  17. Doug Jones had an entire season in the mid '90's resembling Hoffman's start, and the crowd was really into it (except the crowd was about half the size and if I recall right, his entrance music was Lawrence Welk instead of AC/DC). I think he was 45 for 46 in save situations, and most of the time it was about a 7-pitch inning. Uecker said Jones had 3 pitches: slow, slower, and slowest.
  18. It's quite simple. We're in their heads. If we were losing 90 games every season it wouldn't be an issue. We sweep them in their own house and take their playoff spot away from them, and it becomes an issue. Teams used to get into our heads by plunking Fielder. It doesn't work anymore. The tables have turned. We get into other teams' heads. They don't get into ours.
  19. I'm pretty sure it's illegal to start referring to Counsell as "CC" http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/wink.gif Exactly. CC is now retired, alongside LT, MJ, and OJ.
  20. Dude has 18 RBI out of the leadoff spot (minus two games). That's with Jason Kendall and the pitcher batting behind him. That's an unbelievable number.
  21. This season is following the pattern of every Packer game, Badger football game, Badger basketball game, and Badger hockey game since last fall: completely outplay the other team and find some way to lose - blown 3rd base coaching, blown first base umpiring calls, robbed grand slams, 7 runs on 3 hits, multiple hard hit line outs - how else could they possibly lose? Hopefully we don't find out tomorrow.
  22. That has to be one of the most stunning "holds" I've ever seen. What could possibly be going through Fischer's head to make him hold Hart in that situation? Did he lose track of the number of outs, who the runner was, or who was on deck? A 12 year old kid coaching third would know you have to send Hart in that situation.
  23. I don't put too much stock in spring training numbers this year because - I don't know if the wind was constantly blowing out - but the offensive numbers were just ridiculous. I think our starters' slugging percentage was around .750. That's why I'm not putting much stock in Riske's inflated ERA or Bill Hall's inflated batting average. When we get into a normal environment, we'll get a better indication of how the pitchers and hitters are doing.
  24. I'd mix it up with the early 80's powder blue. Thia look was, and is, awesome. http://www.mitchellandness.com/images/products/medium/BE82R04_W.jpg
  25. If you stay anywhere close to downtown, you can walk just about anywhere in the city. AT&T Park is south of downtown and is about a 1/2 mile walk through a decent neighborhood. Note that north of downtown, it might say something is 1 mile away on a website, but the roads are so hilly and steep that it might feel like 5 miles. If you're coming from or going to any place north of downtown then take one of the many different types of public transportation - the cable cars are pretty cool and the street cars aren't bad. By the ballpark, there are a few nice indoor/outdoor places to get food and beer. The most important thing is that if you're staying in the city of SF, take the BART from the airport and don't attempt to drive and park in SF.
