  1. I remember going to bed one night in 1995 thinking the Brewers were gone. I woke up to find out Petak changed his vote, and now 13 years later, here we are! Some people think that rock bottom for this franchise was the 56-106 season in 2002. That's not the case. This franchise needed 13 years to come from its depths in 1995, and the state legislature, Uecker sticking around, the Miller Park construction crew, the hiring of Dean Taylor and his staff, the hiring of Doug Melvin, Ned Yost brining professionalism back to the clubhouse, the players, a trade for the ages, and 3 million fans all needed to come together for us to sneak into the playoffs by 1 game. What an amazing accomplishment!
  2. In the last 2 months he's 1-6 with an ERA around 8 and a WHIP over 2.
  3. Sabathia - no way - pitching Sunday Sheets - no way Gallardo - no way they bring him back on 3-days rest Bush - pitched 3 innings today Parra - pitched 2 innings today, and if he starts, it's a guaranteed loss Suppan - 2 days rest following 5 innings? Mcclung - 2 days rest following 4 innings? It looks like Villanueva (who I don't mind in this spot because I know he can mentally handle it) with McClung and Bush maybe available for 1 inning?
  4. At least Hardy choking kept us from the disappointment of Torres blowing another save against the Cubs.
  5. Probably not exactly what you're looking for, but here's some of the video from fans.
  6. accuweather.com now has the rain coming in at 9pm.
  7. This has got to be subject to change. Would they really stick the first two games of a potential Cubs/Mets series on at 1:30 or 3:00 pm ET? This would have to move to primetime.
  8. It would be great if they could move Thursday's game up. I don't anyone would object.
  9. A 3-day rain event is scheduled to come in to New York Thursday afternoon. This could wash out game 4 of Mets / Cubs and also mean that The Mets would be facing some AA scrub on Monday instead of Harden on Thursday if the game means anything. I imagine Harden would pitch Saturday (possibly in relief) to stay sharp. Not good news.
  10. Trenni mentioned that the Brewers and the Players Association have to give approval for a Monday game as the Brewers will have played 20 straight days. And yes as the previous poster said Trenni reported CC wouldn't pitch if they played on Monday as Yost wanted him to pitch in the Cubs series. I like having CC having an extra day of rest. If that wasn't the case, Yost prefering CC pitching against the Cubs instead of the Phillies is just idiotic. We're in a battle for our lives to make the wildcard. A division title is just a very far-fetched bonus.
  11. In the chart, Option B should have Sheets pitching the playoff opener on 10/1 ... unless Option B assumes he gets injured.http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/wink.gif
  12. Backup catcher, unbelievably clutch hit, pennant race - a little earlier in the season, but what Rivera did today will be remembered for a long time, especially if the Brewers make the playoffs by a game or so. I seriously questioned letting Rivera bat in that situation, but Yost must have felt that the backup catcher lightning was going to strike again.
  13. FYI: Last month, Dmitri Young left a game with lower back tightness, and the next day he was back in the lineup.
  14. Now that Favre no longer plays in the State, the Brewers claim at least the 4 biggest sports-related stars in all of Wisconsin. I'd say the current top 7 stars are: 1. Ryan Braun 2. Prince Fielder 3. CC Sabathia 4. Ben Sheets 5. gotta be some Packer, but who? ... Aaron Kampman? 6. Bo Ryan or Bret Bielema? 7. Probably some more Brewers - Hart, Hardy, etc. This development is amazing because you look back at the previous 10 years ending in about '04, no Brewers were on the radar state-wide as far as stardom is concerned. During this period, the list probably looked like this: 1. Brett Favre 2. Barry Alvarez 3. Mike Holmgren 4. Reggie White 5. Ron Dayne 6. LeRoy Butler 7-9. The "Big 3" on the Bucks - Ray Allen, Big Dog, Sam Cassell 10. More Packers, like Ahman Green, or perhaps Dwyane Wade It's just remarkable how quickly the Brewers have taken over Wisconsin's sports scene (as enumerated by our attendance totals) and also have become very relevant at the national level.
  15. When you get knocked down and then hit the next pitch 430 feet, you can do whatever you want up there.
  16. That wasn't "an error". That was a gutless play. Weeks totally bailed out because he was afraid of getting hit by the baserunner. He let the whole team down, especially CC, and a guy like Yost is not going to let him get away with it.
  17. Could be the last time you see Weeks on the field this year in a Brewer uniform.
  18. Picture, 1000 words. Pujols / Lidge. http://mlb.mlb.com/news/article.jsp?ymd=20051020&content_id=1255850&vkey=news_hou&fext=.jsp&c_id=hou
  19. It's hard to place the blame anywhere, besides maybe with Mota's walk (but one walk should not lead to 6 runs). It just seemed like all the luck we had the previous 26 innings just got overturned in about 8 minutes. If the two Mota grounders are 6 inches to the left, they're easy outs. Shouse was probably due for a bad outing. Torres' was definitely due, and his arm is probably about to fall off.
  20. I cannot watch a Brewer away game when Dave Bush is pitching.
  21. Two I remember (besides Nieves going all the way) were: 1. Teddy Higuera in County Stadium on a beautiful weekday afternoon. Jeffrey "One Flap Down" Leonard had a great catch against the wall to save the no hitter - I couldn't see the catch from my seats along the 3rd base line, but I could hear the "boom" of Leonard banging against the padding and then the crowd going nuts. Steve Balboni then led off the 8th with a bomb into the left field bleachers. I even remember how the game ended - Dan Plesac striking out Balboni on 3 pitches with the bases loaded. 2. Ben McDonald in Baltimore. He was in his walk year and he actually took himself out of the game after 7 innings with the no hitter going to supposedly preserve his arm for the big contract. The radio color guy (it had to be Pat Hughes, but maybe it was Jim Powell) was highly critical of the original Big Ben.
  22. Any bullpen that gives up 6 runs in an inning must suck! http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/tongue.gif
  23. Ryan Braun got called up May 25, 2007, had 4 home runs as of June 18, and ended up with 34. Russell Branyan got called up May 25, 2008, has 9 home runs as of June 18, and will end up with 34 x 9 / 4 = 76?
  24. Manny is 10th all time in OPS - higher than Frank Thomas and A-Rod, and he averages 130 RBI per season (for comparison, "Mr. RBI", Tony Perez, averaged less than 100 RBI per season). Manny also gets in on the Kirby Puckett clause, leading his team to 2 world championships - not to mention that he just massacres the Yankees. I actually will tell my kids about Manny - he's the best right-handed hitter I've seen from the 1978-2008 timespan.
