  1. I like Gallardo a lot and have high hopes for Villy but at some point we're going to have to pay for a top level rotation guy and not just re-up position players while hoping for pitching prospects to pan out during their arby years through our system. Totally agree with you. Just one problem...they already did that with Jeff Suppan. Not the top level rotation guy you're talking about? Well, then we're talking A LOT of dough, and that doesn't even work out a lot of times, see Zito, Schmidt. Unless I've missed his last one or two starts, Sabathia sure isn't doing anything to make a Milwaukee or similar market team to peg as the savior of the franchise. In a perfect world, Sheets already accepted a generous and fair extension, but he just can't stay on the field. The positive to the situation is Gallardo was on the road to stardom, right from the get go, and was taking another step already this year to elite status. Now, that's all gone. If there is someone that is worth it out there, I'm all for the Brewers going after a pitcher...I just don't see anyone outside Oakland really out there to my liking. And their early season success probably nixes anything with them at this point. The whole situation sucks.
  2. Yes TLB, I find it hard to believe after missing a start and then coming back and walking 7 batters in his first outing, regardless of the weather, is grounds for 'all is well.'
  3. I think the Wood experiment may end sooner than later. You may be right, but be careful what you wish for...Marmol is good.
  4. Well if (when) another injury scare happens in the next couple months, this topic should be put to bed.
  5. It's more of a bummer that Villanueva bombed the way he did, but did he really need to face Carlos Lee last night to prove that he was done? No.
  6. So I guess that means Hardy isn't really injury prone either. Ummm, sure. Who said he was? Problem is, JJ Hardy really isn't that good.
  7. Does this mean that Gallardo is now officially injury prone? Not even close. We all saw what happened and why he is out for the year. Everyone was shocked that he was even able to finish the inning after SEEING what happened. In Sheets' case, it's just all of a sudden a grimace, or body language from doing what he does...throwing a baseball, and really nothing obvious happened, at least not to the human eye...there's a difference, especially when the instances of this happen over and over again. I really hope the team stays IN the race, not mathematically in the race. Sitting at 6 or 8 games back at the trading deadline around .500 is technically still in it, but if that would be the case, I wouldn't be holding my breath. Again, this is exactly why brushing off last year's collapse with the notion that 2008 was the Brewers real year anyway is just setting yourself up for disappointment.
  8. But even if the Brewers make the playoffs, not having Gallardo for the playoffs is not good if you'd like to see the Brewers actually do more than just get there.
  9. This is the single most devastating injury I can think of as a sports fan in my life. As far as the Brewers are concerned, this is at the top. But the announcement out of nowhere that Sterling Sharpe would have to retire was way more devastating. Gallardo will be back.
  10. So much for targeting a year like 2008 and saying 'we weren't supposed to do anything in 2007 anyway.' Well, maybe this belongs in the silver lining thread, but if they end up like I think they will, at least maybe they'll pull off a semi-big trade for Sheets and Ned Yost will be gone. Of course Sheets has to stay healthy himself though.
  11. Thirdly, I didn't call you a meanie. I just think you have no objective thought around this, whether it be due to jealousy, frustration, whatever. This is what I responded with "chill" for.
  12. I told you to chill because I wasn't necessary singling you out. I was responding to your post, but I didn't mean that you called me a 'meanie' I was bringing it up before anyone else did. My tagline is there because again, it's such an easy call. It's depressing how correct it has been so far, and probably will end up being. I know all fans are frustrated. The point is, that Sheets can't be counted on, and pretty much shouldn't have been before the latest injury.
  13. I didn't say you were wrong. I said you weren't objective. Those are different things. Really? Thanks. I'm not basing my stance on Sheets on anything other than FACTS. That's being objective. I don't hate Ben Sheets. I hate the fact that he has gone down every season for the last four seasons. That's not a prejudice, that's a fact. Being objective and optimistic are two different things as well.
  14. Look at your tag line. You think that makes you objective? Yeah, I put that on there as soon as he was pulled from his last start. Why? Because it's such an easy call. Have I been wrong so far? This isn't new.
  15. You need to chill. No objective thought? Dude, this isn't a new scenario. I was saying the same thing LAST year. I was proposing the Brewers trade Sheets all off season. He's just not available. Being great means nothing, when you aren't even able to go half the time...especially on a team like the Brewers where he pretty much is the key to success, or at least the most important part of the pitching staff. I'm not really all that frustrated about it...because I'm not surprised. EDIT: I take that back, sure I'm frustrated. But I'm still not surprised. And I think they could have probably cashed him in for something of value a few months ago. Again, I hope he makes me eat my words.
  16. I would love for Sheets to make me eat my words, but right now I don't understand how you can argue with the fact that Sheets cannot be your #1 pitcher because he is so unreliable. Exactly. He does hurt the Brewers, at least as much as he helps them and has for the last couple years. And before people start crying about how Sheets is great and we shouldn't say anything negative about him, read the first part of the highlighted post above. I'm sure everyone that posts on this board would love for Sheets to come back this year and be great up to and including the playoffs. I'm just past the point of expecting that. I expect he won't be around when it matters most.
  17. The point he's trying to make is, as Brewers fans, we shouldn't give a hoot about Sheets after this year. Because quite frankly, he hasn't been able to earn the money the Brewers have paid him, even if he's really good when available. He's just not available even close to enough, and he's not coming back after this season. So, as fans of the Brewers, we should at least get a playoff run that INCLUDES Sheets in the rotation. That's not going to happen obviously if he's hurt whatsoever. But like I said, I don't care one bit about Sheets after this year. And don't play the 'I'm a meanie' game, he's a multi millionaire...paid by the Brewers. He's been a tease, without sounding too repetitive.
  18. So your preference is that Sheets ignores his pain and shreds a muscle rather than wait for him to get back to 100% and actually pitch healthy? How is that close to logical? Come on man, he's obviously not totally serious when suggesting that. No, the actual situation will play out something like DL stint coming up, he'll be back sometime in early June, and then sometime in July or so, he'll go on the DL again. I wouldn't bet $5 he can be counted on in August and September.
  19. At this point, I think I will be satisfied if he makes 25 starts this season. You won't get no satisfaction I'm afraid.
  20. Going from head basketball coach at Indiana University to an assistant with the Milwaukee Bucks is not even close to a promotion. Head coach of the Milwaukee Bucks wouldn't even be, but an assistant? Not even remotely close.
  21. Thursday, right in line with my new sig. Nothing really new to report, but just another pre-warning that there's no guarantee that he'll be able to go on his next scheduled start. We've seen this movie before.
  22. Prince is fat period. In other news, Eric Gagne is also fat, Gabe Kapler is ripped, and Corey Hart, JJ Hardy, and Craig Counsell are all skinny.
  23. Prince isn't fat. Braun isn't cocky (someone even called him classy in the other thread). Weeks is on his way to the Hall of Fame. Ned Yost is great. Man alive, it's as if some people 'round these parts think they aren't fans if everything they spew isn't pro Brewers. Sorry for not staying on topic.
  24. If you think this board is angry tonight, imagine the uproar if he would have gone with Gagne in the 9th for the save and Gagne ended up blowing it. Actually, if that would have happened, it just might have been worth it. This board in an uproar? How about Doug Melvin and Mark Attanasio? That just might have got the ball rolling on getting Ned Yost out of here.
  25. If he was going to pitch Gagne again (I didn't catch tonight's game), then he'd rather be right than win.
