Goes without saying but it's hard to have a hall of fame career. We had a really nice surge of hitting prospects under Doug Melvin and only Braun had stats worthy of HOF consideration (and he won't get in due to the failed drug test). Fielder might have gotten there had he not had injuries but that's part of the deal. Not everyone stays healthy enough to live up to their ceiling (e.g. Buxton).
I think I read somewhere he can't technically "coach". I don't know if there was a non compete he signed or what but that's why he has the role he has.
He does have positional flexibility but he really tailed off the second half of last year and obviously hasn't figured it out this year. I'd probably pass.
He's basically league-average throwing guys out compared to all the guys that get regular innings. And Fangraphs has him with the best defensive WAR in all of baseball. Does that make him top 2? I dunno. But being top 6 or 7 is still pretty darn good.
To me, a reasonable expectation is he matches Rodgers' performance from last year with more rushing yards (even though I don't think he's gonna be a "runner"):
26 TD, 12 INT 64.6 Comp% 3700 yards
Does anyone know where/if this is found? I happened to notice home/away splits for Black, Chourio, and Quero and was wondering how Biloxi measured. I did a cursory search on google but didn't find anything current. I'm sure it's out there someplace.
Good post. He certainly is a unique case given the fact that he can help you with the bat and on the mound. Not sure how he'll be valued but it feels like it's gonna take a lot even if it's just a rental. How is WAR even calculated for a guy like that? Do you just add pitching + hitting to get a number?
