  1. Locking the thread. Several of you REALLY need to tone down the snark and condescension. Ideas and people are not silly....unless, of course, you want Bill Hall to join the rotation. If you want to refute someone's argument do so as an adult or you'll be asked to leave either temporarily or permanently.
  2. I think there was a, how should I put it, a certain subset of Twitter that was actively rooting against them after Rapinoe's comments came out before the match against England. I'll leave it at that and hope others don't get political here.
  3. Can we get Wily Peralta back too?
  4. Interesting article in Business Insider about the pay disparity. Apparently, men's and women's tennis players make about the same amount of money because they play their big tournaments at the same time: https://www.businessinsider.com/womens-soccer-players-footballers-equal-pay-fifa-world-cup-2019-7 "While tennis still has a pay gap at smaller tournaments, the women have achieved equal pay at the biggest events by playing the four Grand Slam tournaments with the men. With the major sources of revenue (broadcast rights, advertising, ticket sales) pooled together, it is nearly impossible to say if the men or women are generating a larger share of the pie." The big difference in revenue comes during the World Cup which is run by FIFA, not the USSF. "The entire purse for the 2019 Women's World Cup was $30 million, with the winning country receiving $4 million. In contrast, FIFA's purse for the men's 2018 World Cup was $400 million, with the champions receiving $38 million, more than the entire purse at the Women's World Cup. If the women were to play alongside the men in a single World Cup every four years, there would no longer be a gap in revenue generated by the women and the men, as they would be creating one larger pool. And if that argument goes away, so does a large chunk of the pay gap."
  5. Ramsey might be my favorite TV villain of all time. Thing is the actor who plays him is the nicest dude in the world. Crazy to see interviews of him.
  6. I would like to see the revenue breakdown between men and women.
  7. "He was the best of shortstops, he was the worst of shortstops..."
  8. I think it's also because he's played on a lot of mediocre to bad teams. If the Angels were perennial playoff contenders he'd be getting a ton more pub.
  9. I think we've mentioned this before here but Trout is arguably going to be the best player in the history of the game and is probably underrated.
  10. How is the inside of the plate at any point more of a clear path than the outside of the plate? Lucroy moves from between blocking the inside half of the plate and 2 feet off the plate to the inside. The inside part of the plate was never the best path for him unless he was going to try and slide between his legs or something. You all are grasping at straws at best... Yet you can read minds.
  11. We can go round and round on these Zapruder gifs all day. No one's going to convince anyone. He should be suspended. I don't think it was intentional.
  12. That gif starts after he had already committed to the inside.
  13. I don't think he had a clear path to the outside.
  14. You are blind. Lucroy is moving away from the plate which gives Marisnick that much more of a clear path than he already had and instead of taking it he decides to change his path and truck Lucroy. It's a completely dirty play. http://freegifmaker.me/video/15626065131942086.gif What you can't see in this angle is Lucroy's glove moving one way and his body moves the other. Maybe Marisnick saw his hand reach wide of the basepath and thought the rest of him would follow that path. He definitely takes a big jab step wide right as Lucroy catches the ball. I've now seen the replay as it happened on TV and I think it looks way worse in those angles so I get why people are calling for his head. He should probably be suspended just for being reckless but I really don't think he was trying to hurt anyone or run him over intentionally. I will now ready myself for the forthcoming pitchforks.
  15. I was expecting it to be like Pete Rose and Ray Fosse but after watching the replay my first inclination was what you posted here.
  16. “That was a bad play,” Marisnick said. “For me, I was running and I see him take a step kind of up the line like he’s going to drop and go back so I tried to take an in-step and slide head first on the inside corner. And I watched the play again and it looks like he just drops right in front of me and once I kind of made a decision it was too late. And it was a bad play, and I hope he’s OK.”
  17. I think it was an accident.
  18. Congrats to Team USA! Dominating performance.
  19. Hommes has a really interesting backstory. Missed his junior and senior years of high school due to injury, walked on at some rinky dink school, transferred to a D2 university and won national player of the year as a junior. He's a longshot, but a 6'8" three point gunner would be great. https://www.espn.com/nba/story/_/id/26431194/division-ii-daulton-hommes-declaring-nba-draft
  20. FanGraphs isn't predicting every Brewer starter to have an ERA in the high 4s, Steamer is. Fangraphs just hosts those projections. Guerra (3.88), Nelson (4.20), Peralta (4.39), Woodruff (4.44) & Burnes (4.52) are all projected in the high three to mid four range. The reason why Steamer projects regression for Chacin is because historically pitchers of his age/profile get worse. Midpoint check-in (obviously ERA isn't the end all be all) Chacin (projected Steamer ERA 4.67, actual 5.40) Peralta (4.36, 5.16) Wooodruff (4.44, 3.67) Burnes (4.49, 8.81)
  21. If I recall correctly, the Brewers have exceeded FGs projections for at least 3 years in a row. Exactly, which is why I look at particularly Fangraphs' projections with a pretty major gran of salt. Is there a projection system you trust?
  22. We use Car2Go in Chicago and yesterday got in two cars that reeked of weed. I have nothing against smoking weed although I don't do it but can you at least be considerate of people that are going to use the car after you? I guess that's too much to ask.
