I feel like they almost never call it when you are gathering for a dunk/layup. The only time they call it in the NBA is when you start walking with the ball when you're out on the perimeter.
We made the playoffs? The problem is doing that only gets you one, at most two, shots at it. Then you get 5-10 years of mediocre to awful baseball. If the goal is to win a single championship fine. If the goal is to have a competitive team year in and year out, presumably in an effort to win multiple championships, not so fine. I'd prefer to follow a good team every year over reminiscing about that one magical year. There are no guarantees either way. If they don't get Greinke they still don't have any pitching had they kept those guys.
The Houston Astros would greatly disagree with you. Especially if they can pull off one more win against the Yankees. Justin Verlander has been a hero. Not to mention they have many more years of Quintana to make him useful anyway. While Houston's trade for Verlander is working out in the short term it also had a long term implication. For a team like the Brewers it is not wise to give up the farm for one or two years. Look what happened last time we gave up the farm for one pitcher. We made the playoffs?
I don't think the travel to Mexico City is all that bad. It's better than an east/west coast flight. From Dallas, Miami, Tampa, Houston, Atlanta, Phoenix, San Diego it's 3.5 hours and under direct.
The downtown ballpark proposal that fell through in Montreal looked amazing. That's a great city and would have been a terrific road trip. Olympic stadium is way out in the boonies and there's nothing around it (although that may have changed in the last five years since I was there).
Kenny Lofton didn't have a season over .800 OPS until he was 23 years old. I realize this is a very much a glass is half full take but that's how I roll.
The funny thing is he doesn't get hurt from taking shots in the pocket with inept offensive lines. Even going back to when we have Barclay coming off a ACL playing tackle vs Seattle and Minnesota and Rodgers was getting sacked 7 times, he wasn't allowing them to get good hits. He's usually has such incredible body control and footwork that he either shrugs off linemen or he kinda goes down without exposing himself. If Barr...one of my favorite LB'ers prior to this game doesn't take an extra step in order to drive Rodgers into the turn he's fine. . Collarbones are weird. Wrong angle and it doesn't take much to fracture them.
I think it was a combination of minimal reps during the week of practice and a sieve like offensive line. They kept it very vanilla. I'd imagine the playbook will open up for him next week.
There's "sell out" where all tickets are bought. And there's in-game attendance which is how many people show up. Quite frankly, between the expensive craft beer and food and the new netting it will be a wonder anyone shows up at all. They can watch the game at home with no net obstructing their view whilest eating a $2.50 Jack's pizza and drinking their $5 six pack of Natty Light.
These guys counted all the people that have died either playing or watching baseball. Pretty sure there's no bias in death. http://www.slate.com/articles/sports/sports_nut/2009/05/youre_out.html And most studies will tell you right off the bat how they count an "injury". The definitive study that most people refer to was done by Bloomberg but the original article is behind a pay wall so I can't tell you how they determined what an injury was.
You are using a camera with a very fast shutter and focal length different than the human eye. For photography, yes this is not that great. For humans, I don't think it's a big deal.
