  1. Yeah it's a slippery slope but I don't think criminal charges necessarily has to be the automatic qualifier for a suspension. The league attempts to portray itself as a family friendly brand and wants to protect that brand. If a guy is a leader in the KKK he'll probably get kicked out of the league even though he hasn't done anything technically illegal.
  2. At the end of the day those games still count. If UW had beaten Oklahoma in December no one would be discounting it. Having said that, I bet the committee looks at things like the coaching change and how young the team is when deciding on how much to weigh the early season struggles.
  3. Re: situation #1 I think you have to keep Correa simply because he is elite at a position where there isn't much after the top few (that may change in a few years and might this year but seems like a safe bet). Votto's numbers may drop simply because they aren't going to have a lot around him and his RBI, runs, etc. may take a dive. Stanton is the other guy I'd keep. Power is down all over baseball and having mashers on your team is valuable. For that same reason, I feel like there's more pitching out there than there used to be. So keep your elite guys and find others in the draft.
  4. Interesting. I wonder if he has one of those backdoor change-ups like Johan Santana (except right handed) It's a fluke. 2014 - .305/.339/.475 2011 - .286/.375/.571 Career - .280/.348/.400 Ah. Thanks. Should have looked that up myself.

  6. Schwarber moving off of catcher is a really good point from a long term perspective. Short term (next two seasons) he'll be pretty close to elite at catcher but after that he's simply really good in the outfield. Bryant could move off of third but then I still have Arenado. As for the draft, yes it's 8, 18, 34. He may make it to 8 but remember there are three keepers per team so our first round is more like a 4th round. I'm worried he won't make it to 18.....guy a the end of the draft would take him and there is one Cub fan that might snag him. Our scoring is weird. I've been in this same league since pre-internet days. It's basically a total points system (i.e. a single is a point, double is two, triple is three, RBI is one, run is one, stolen base is two, strikeout is minus 1/2, hitting into double play is minus one etc.) and then standings are based on how many points you've accumulated in total. So it's not rotisserie but kind of.
  7. Jabari seems to really be stepping up his game. If he could develop a consistent outside shot he'd be a force on offense.
  8. Figured we can start a thread for this.....might die off after the draft but maybe someone will want trade advice or something. I'll open by asking a keeper question: My league allows three keepers (max two pitchers) and you can keep guys as long as you want (e.g. I've had Braun since his call up). I can keep two of the following three players: Kris Bryant (3B, OF) Nolan Arenado (3B) Kyle Schwarber (C, OF) Going to keep Arenado for sure and then the question becomes Schwarber or Bryant? I'm guessing Bryant will be better long term but given the paucity of really good catchers is Schwarber a better option? Guess I should mention it's a 13 team league and I draft 8th.
  9. Goodnight Mommy German horror flick about a set of twin brothers struggling to figure out what's wrong with their mother after she returns home from surgery. Has a twist near the end that most people can figure out but even if you do it takes a turn to the dark side late in Act II that I didn't see coming. Really disturbing stuff that might not be for everyone - not super gory but hard to watch all the same. All in all I've seen much better small budget horror films in the last five years but this one was pretty good if you like the genre.
  10. If winning is the best indicator of talent does that mean that when a 15 seed beats a 2 seed they are more talented?
  11. To get it as wrong as it was cannot be explained by good health and playing over their heads. Most people agree that projection systems have a blind spot for stellar defense and bullpens.
  12. I guarantee you that the Brewers do not want 2 - 3 years picking top five in the draft. And even if they did the players drafted in the next 2 - 3 years would have no impact on a 2019 team.
  13. "tanking" implies losing on purpose in order to improve one's draft status. "rebuilding" typically results in additional losses but that is not the goal.
  14. Wisconsin can't afford to look ahead. Being a fan with no impact on game performance allows me to do so.
  15. This year is so weird in college hoops. There are literally like 15 teams that could win it all. If they can win @ Maryland the could certainly make a run in the tourney.
  16. He's missed a decent number of games due to injury too...including the minors. So it's no guarantee he even plays a full first half. He's one of those guys that if you were to trade him you get a deal you like and pull the trigger. No regrets.
  17. They seem REALLY bullish on Clark. He might skyrocket up the lists ala Arcia if he has a big year.
  18. I think the risk that they get hurt is greater than the chances that they have a career year.
  19. Nottingham to Brevard?
  20. Is anyone keeping a running list of the players Stearns has acquired?
  21. John Sickels has Nottingham rated 5th best in Oakland's organization: http://www.minorleagueball.com/2016/1/12/10743974/oakland-athletics-top-20-prospects-for-2016
  22. T-Rats are going to have a fun roster.
  23. I was at the Phoenix Open last weekend. Buddy had skybox passes for the 16th hole. Wow....what an environment.
