  1. Well, no, not really - Kotsay, Counsell, and Kottaras got a fair number of ABs and starts against tough RHP. They had guys to platoon. Also, one of those two LH bats was at that time one of if not the most feared LH bat in the game and a guy you were already thinking about when he was in the hole, much less on-deck. He led the league in IBB - and by a wide margin - for a reason. Because Casey McGehee was hitting behind him?
  2. Bonds admitted to taking steroids. Not entirely correct. He admitted to using a substance that he did not know to be steroids. Sanctimonious lunatics attempted to convict him of perjury for lying about that, and failed. "Barry Bonds admits using steroids during his baseball career, his lawyer told a jury Tuesday. The catch is that Bonds' personal trainer misled him into believing he was taking flax seed oil and arthritis cream. ''I know that doesn't make a great story,'' Allen Ruby said during his opening statement at the home run leader's perjury trial. ''But that's what happened.'' Assistant U.S. Attorney Matt Parrella called such claims ''ridiculous and unbelievable'' and portrayed Bonds as a liar during his first chance to present the government's position."
  3. I wonder how much the league OBP drops from 2000 - 2004 if all you do is remove Barry Bonds. He had 872 walks over that time period. At any rate, I think the higher OBP is a leftover from the steroid era. Pitchers were afraid to give guys anything to hit.
  4. Walsh will supplant Scooter and get on base at a .400 clip
  5. Bonds admitted to taking steroids.
  6. He was on a playoff team last year. He crushed in Sept and helped get them the wild card.
  7. So no right handed hitter can succeed without Adam Lind in the lineup.
  8. Kept Rogers and won 4 extra games maybe?
  9. He will carry the Brewers for like two week stretches and then absolutely kill them for 6 weeks. Have no idea how he is defensively. One year deal...trade him at midseason if you get a nice offer.
  10. Off the top of my head, I believe the term is "risk aversion". One of the "Freakonomics" books elaborates on this subject and specifically calls out NFL coaches. Coaches are so afraid of arm-chair quarterbacks and being second-guessed, they take the safe option in a situation even if results in a lower expectation. I'll see if I can go back and find it. That also goes along with deciding to kick a field goal or go for a touchdown on 4th and goal.
  11. La Haine Finally got around to watching this - been meaning to for years. 1995 French film about three youths from the ghettos of Paris. Following a riot amidst ever increasing police violence, their friend lies in a coma after a particularly severe beating from the cops. They have run ins with cops, street gangs, and each other as they decide how they'll move on if/when their friend lives...or dies. Shot in black in white this is really groundbreaking stuff for it's time and it's aged really well. You would never know this film was 20 years old. Highly recommended. Available on Netflix DVD
  12. Eraserhead This is David Lynch's first feature. All I can say is....huh???? It looks pretty cool but seriously....huh????
  13. I actually the same issues with UPS but not Fed Ex.
  14. "Ks per 9 IP among relievers last yr: 1. Chapman 15.74. 2. Miller 14.59. 3. Betances 14.04 #Yankees. Yep. NYY has top 3 now."
  15. If she was Han's daughter wouldn't Leia have to be her mom? If so, wouldn't they have made mention of a daughter in TFA? I don't think that was every brought up. Also, The Force is passed down from parent to child, no? In other words, you can't have The Force without a parent also possessing it. These two facts lead me to believe that Rey is the inbred offspring of Luke and Leia. Thanks for reading.
  16. Usually documentary ideas don't come from the subjects of said documentary. In fact, I'd say they hardly ever do.
  17. Interesting article on potential changes in MLB roster construction: http://www.foxsports.com/mlb/story/future-roster-versatility-flexibility-setup-man-reliever-starter-defense-mlb-122215?utm_medium=twitter&utm_source=twitterfeed (thanks to MassHaas for tweeting)
  18. Agreed. I think Guardians was a much better script...and the soundtrack was incredible. TFA was much more "filmic" though.
  19. I think bad teams are simply a byproduct of a full rebuild. You sell off good players to get prospects.
  20. I hope there's more to Finn's background than what they've shown. I can't see how a guy that was basically raised to be a Stormtrooper just up and decides to quit. Seems like they would have weeded him out well before that battle. Plus, he had quite a sense of humor for what amounts to the sci fi equivalent of a Spartan warrior.
  21. Thanks, Casey.
  22. I agree that there are different ways to build a team but I'd be curious to know how often a WS winner "got hot" late in the year. My uneducated guess is they were usually pretty good the whole year. EDIT: Checked on the Royals from last year. They were 11 - 17 in September. Giants in 2014 were 13 - 12 in Sept. Be interested to see how that compares historically.
