  1. So when did "inverted W" become the topic du jour? A few years ago? It wasn't when Prior was drafted thats for sure. Everything I read at that time said his mechanics were perfect. And additionally....would you take a guy with inverted W if it would give you three years of awesomeness knowing that he'd miss the next year plus with an elbow issue. Or would you rather have a guy who will be average for several years but might not get hurt based on his mechanics (but ended up getting hurt a lot anyway.....but you don't know that going in): Put another way, is it better to burn out or fade away??? http://media.jsonline.com/images/ap-dodgers-brewers-baseballa.jpg
  2. I would say he'd be at best equal value on defense initially. Maybe over time he'd be better than that but it's not like he's replacing Braun over there.
  3. And Rogers off to a great start. 4Ks in 2 innings, 1 BB and 1H
  4. Gamel is no cinch to replace McGehee's defense. While still not good, he's vastly improved from last year. Obviously he doesn't have good range but Escobar does which mitigates that to a degree. Even if he slumps to .800 OPS he'd still be top ten amongst all third basemen in baseball. I don't think Gamel is necessarily "blocked" by any means but I'd think long and hard before trading McGehee to give Gamel a shot at a position he may be moved from in a year or two anyway. I guess I'd rather trade Prince and either move Gamel to 1st or move Hart to 1st and send Gamel to the outfield. If Weeks decides to bolt for free agency, having McGehee around to play second wouldn't be the worst problem in the world to have.
  5. The Ross numbers are really nice but a college guy in the Pioneer league should be putting up pretty dominating numbers. Obviously better than the alternative but let's see how he does in A ball before getting too amped up.
  6. Exactly what they did with Yo. And I realize Jake is about a year older but he's arguably putting up better A ball stats than Gallardo did. edit: apologies to wibadgers. I hadn't read your Gallardo vs. Odorizzi comparison when I posted this.
  7. I didn't realize Richardson had been hitting so well but I checked his profile and he's been en fuego recently. Good to see.
  8. Some friends of mine used http://www.zillow.com/ to list their home. I think they are tied in with MLS. They had a really good experience. Only problem was that they had to be there for every single showing.
  9. I use Komodo. It's free. http://www.openkomodo.com/
  10. If you want deep dish pizza, one of my favorite places is Pequod's on Webster and Clybourn. If you're staying downtown there's a bunch of "Chicago style" places to choose from. Lou Malnati's or Gino's East are good. If you want thin crust, then head to Bricks on Wisconsin and Lincoln in Old Town. It's a neat hole in the wall with fantastic pizza. My favorite pie in the city. I recommend checking out some Improv or sketch comedy while you're down there. IO (formerly Improv Olympic) on Clark about half block from Wrigley has shows 7 days a week and the quality is consistently good. And it's affordable. I think the mainstage is like $14 per person. Second City is on North and Wells in Old Town is also consistently good but it's a bit more money and you have to get your tickets well in advance especially for a weekend show. One tour I've always wanted to do is the Gangster bus tour of Chicago. They take you around and show you all the famous hangouts of guys like Capone and Frank Nitti and I believe you also see sites of famous murders and shoot outs (e.g. spot where Dillinger was killed, site of St. Valentine's Day Massacre, etc.) Getting around via mass transit is really easy. I'd buy a three day pass at one of the El stations. If you want to know the best route to take to get from A to B via bus/train head to this site: http://www.transitchicago.com/ And use the Trip Planner. All buses have GPS linked to this web site: www.ctabustracker.com so you can check on your phone how long it will be for a bus to arrive at your stop. Very useful.
  11. I really think you're overvaluing how many extra wins a setup guy can give you over the course of three months. To me, that was not the definition of a "going for it" type of move.
  12. Thornburg's K/9 is like 16.96
  13. Speaking of Bonds....what makes his case all the more tragic is that he probably would have been top 5 player of all time if he had never touched steroids.
  14. And Brent Brewer
  15. It's not called that anymore. Yeah, I know. I was waxing nostalgic.
  16. Per TH: http://www.jsonline.com/b...p;refresh=34016#comments
  17. Don Hutson had no peers in football.
  18. Ruth was the Don Hutson of baseball.
  19. Its clearly posted on the rules sheet that every thing with sand was a bunker. He should have asked the rules official if it was a bunker. It's not the rules official's job to point stuff out to the player, it's the player's job to ask if there's an issue. I do agree that they probably could have done a better job clearing people out of the way. But again, Johnson could have requested that.
  20. Ha ha. I beat her by four minutes.....well, it was a different marathon....and it was ten years ago.
  21. Glad people are including Josh Bell and Satchel Paige in this discussion.
  22. Yeah, you should stick to baseball.Ha! Good one.
  23. Imagine if he'd made that putt on 18.
  24. Another nice outing for Rivas: 5IP 3H 1ER 2BB and 7Ks
