    I have a 73 year old client who was a great saver his whole life, made a good living, had few debts and is now retired. It is like pulling teeth to get him to take money from his IRA to live on. He complains constanly about not saving money anymore and spending his savings. His wife is depressed because she wants to travel a bit while they still can health wise, wants to have some new furniture after 20 years of use and he won't budge on his "gotta save every dime" attitude. \ _________________ That could also be chalked up to generational differences. This dude's fearliest memories were formed during the Great Depression when people scratched and clawed for everything they had.

    They said on the radio here in Chicago that it was a "Ramada owned hotel" in Milwaukee. 1) Does Ramada own a decent hotel in Milwaukee that is not named "Ramada"? 2) If not, why the heck is Erin Andrews staying at a Ramada?

    If it hadn't been for Reed Johnson, Prince would have the RBI title and be tied with Pujols for most HRs AND have a .300 BA. Damn you Reed Johnson!!

    Whoever touched on Chicago being viewed as a crime ridden unsafe city was right on. People just don't want to be there. ___________________ Do you know Rio's crime rate? It's like 10 times Chicago's - ok, maybe not 10x but they had 5000 murders last year. And the cops kill on average THREE PEOPLE A DAY. So in Rio, the police kill more people than there are murders in all of Chicago. As a resident here I find it absolutely hilarious that people think it's unsafe. Yes there is crime and violence but it's limited to very specific parts of the city that aren't really near anywhere a person from outside the city would end up going to.

    Living in Chicago, I am torn. I can't stand Daley but I've already seen some potential interesting job opportunities with the bid process and I can only imagine there'd be a bunch more if the Olympics actually come here. I think it'd be pretty cool to be a part of the Olympics....well, not as cool as being an athlete but still....

    This isn't really a "get out of debt tip" but one thing I'm very fastidious about is saving my spare change. Once a year I cash it in and use it to buy Christmas gifts. You'd be surprised how much you collect in a year. For me it averages about $200.

    I just don't think your .001% estimates are even in the ball park. __________________ Agreed. Probably have about a 5% chance of getting in a car wreck and a 1% chance of having injuries from that car wreck.

    I heard a rumor from a guy with connections to the Brewers involving Fielder and King Felix. Obviously there'd be other players involved but those were the two names mentioned.

    For me it's less the physical part and more the instinctual part. I've seen that guy take the most ridiculous routes to pop ups I shudder to think what he'd do on some line drives to center.

    I can put in my account numbers in Quicken Deluxe for my credit cards, IRAs, and 401Ks and download those transactions - would never in a million years do that with a website. ________________________ You're probably almost as vulnerable having it on your computer and being hooked up to the internet. Also, do you do use Turbo Tax? It's on the web. And I think there's a version of Quicken for the web too (And Quicken just bought Mint for what it's worth).

    I use Mint.com It's free and does everything I used Quicken for.

    They use credit scores to help determine car insurance rates in some places.

    Doesn't Ramsey recommend you pay off the small balance cards first regardless of interest rate? I thought his reasoning was that it was a mental victory to actually have a card paid off which makes staying on a payment plan easier to maintain. Or something like that....

    thanks for the advice everyone. Just one more tidbit - I don't carry any debt whatsoever (credit card, mortgage, car, etc.) so this would be the only thing on my "record".

    I can appreciate the idea of not taking on any debt but if I do pay for it out of cash then I don't have any money on hand in case there's some kind of emergency between now and when I graduate.

    I'm currently in grad school. I have enough cash in reserve to pay for all my schooling. My question is, should I take out a deferred student loan and try to invest my cash so when I'm done with school I come out ahead? Anyone try this?

    I agree they should/will offer him arby. However, homer, you have it wrong, if he declines, the Brewers don't automatically get a draft pick. Someone needs to sign him first to receive a draft pick or draft picks. If he becomes a type A free agent, which I think he might be at this time, teams might be a little more reluctant to sign him. Yes, you are correct. You'd think I'd have learned something from the Ben Sheets debacle.
