  1. A few I watched recently: 300 - Better than I expected and unlike Sin City, had a palatable plot line that justified the violence. Zodiac - Very good film although I may have had a bias going in because David Fincher is one of my favorite directors. It ran a bit long and almost split into two films - one about the case itself and one about a guy obsessing over the case. I thought the first half was great and Fincher a master at extracting suspense. The movie sort of slowed down the last third or so but was still interesting. Hot Fuzz - I liked this but I can't heap the praise others have. Some laugh out loud moments (and maybe I missed something) but I thought they could have used a different choice than a serial killer - it seemed too close to Shaun of the Dead.
  2. Didn't Cooper hit like .357 in 1980?
  3. Saw Superbad yesterday. It wasn't as good as I thought it would be although still pretty entertaining I guess. I just felt like they could have toned down the vulgarity and male anatomy jokes and it would have been just as funny if not moreso. It kind of got old after awhile. Some great laugh out loud one liners and sight gags and I love the way Michael Cera delivers lines but I wanted more for some reason. I have a feeling this will be one I enjoy more after I see the DVD a few times.
  4. I'd like to vent about all the venting threads. Can't we lock all the "bench Hall, bench Hart, bench the Vets" threads and move them here? The Vets thread in particular is pretty ridiculous....the others are OK since they offer viable alternatives but what are the Brewers supposed to do about bench? And while I'm at it (and venting in the appropriate place) I think we've officially complained/whined/ragged about/on every player on the roster - some have been ripped on, cannonized, and ripped on all in the same month. Hart - check Hall - check Fielder - maybe not Hardy - check Sheets - check Estrada - check Counsellino - check Miller - check (see Vets thread) Weeks - check Gross - check Jenkins - check Mench - check Braun - check Rest of rotation - check (although Yo has gotten a pass - I'm sure that will change soon. I see a "Is Yo Overrated?" thread coming soon. Bullpen - check (and that includes Shouse - he was chastised early in the year) Ned - check Maddux - check Skaalen - hmmm, not sure about that one. Law of averages says yes Sveum - I don't think anyone really knows what he does anyway Base coaches - third base (check) first base (doubtful) Did I miss anyone? Like I've said before, let's DFA the whole squad and start over with Nashville. Apparently, they've got a great pitching coach who will make our defense better and several prospects that will hit exactly like they have at AAA.
  5. In 5.1 innings. I thought DFAing Grant was a desperate move but I'm not blaming Maddux for his 2.2 poor innings in Milwaukee.
  6. I blame Ned Yost for Hurricane Dean.
  7. I thought Verlander's no no was rock bottom. Little did I know...
  8. I would think Sheets would get roughly the same $$ as Zambrano. Just a guess.
  9. JJ, I started a thread asking who hasn't been bashed but I thought better of it and deleted my post. To my recollection, Prince is about the only one who has not.
  10. Kyles did a nice job with Grant Balfour too.......I guess he forgot everything he was taught when he got to the majors.
  11. Ah, the infamous "Craig's List Casual Encounter". I wondered if anyone actually met on one of those. Maybe I should give it a try. http://static.yuku.com/v2//domainskins/bypass/img/smileys/laugh.gif
  12. http://podserfs.com/wp-content/uploads/2006/11/people-skills.jpg What the hell is wrong with you people! I have people skills!!!
  13. I tried to sell a microwave on there once. Didn't work. I did buy Red Sox tickets for face value off of there when I was in Boston. It was pretty cool. It's more free market than eBay I believe so buyer beware. Actually, now that I think about it, I found my last apartment on Craig's List too.
  14. Only time I use them is if I have a bad cold and need to blow my nose a few times during the night. It's better to have one hanky than a doezn crumpled up pieces of tissue all over the floor.
  15. I blame Jim Skaalen since no one has yet. I win!
  16. I said 85 wins....and I really wish I had posted that someplace because I look like a chump for saying it now. I'll stick with it. And I think people need to remind themselves that this is a really, really young team. They are going to be streaky and this August slide is probably related to mental fatigue as much as anything. Pennant races are a real grind. The nice thing is that next year they'll be ready for it from the get go. I see a big season (i.e. 95+ wins) in 2008.
  17. I figure I'd just create one thread where we could complain about everyone that should be benched, platooned, or DFA'd since that seems to be the attitude towards nearly everyone on the roster right now.http://static.yuku.com/v2//domainskins/bypass/img/smileys/happy.gif
  18. How many Player's of the Year has Helena had recently? It seems like every year a Brewer wins or comes close to winning.
  19. "C. I'm old school. I remember guys working 300 innings year after year. These guys today are wimps. " But in the old days guys would get arm problems, drop off the face of the earth never to be heard from again. For every Warren Spahn or Bob Feller there are probably 1000 guys that threw too many innings.
  20. Braun as a 22 year old in the same league: .274/.346/.438 Gillespie turned 23 on 6/20 but we'll say 23 for the season : .258/.376/.408 Identical OPS....and Gillespie skipped a level too. Never played a game of A ball. In retrospect, might have been a better move to start him in WV but with the OF logjam that would have been difficult. I wasn't all that impressed with Braun last year either and was kind of surprised he was promoted mid way - his stats alone really don't justify it - but he really proved me wrong. I'm hopeful that Gillespie does too.
  21. My prediction for next whipping boy: Bullpen catcher Marcus Hanel
  22. That's mostly because Ned continues to bat Mench against righties. Mench against lefites is really good - .305/.338/.519But you're right that a right handed side of a platoon doesn't come up too often - getting a cheaper replacement is a good move.
  23. Yeah the response is in like three seconds. It's kind of amazing.
  24. To be blunt: who cares? They are little kids, not professionals. It's not like you have money riding on it. 20 years from now they'll laugh about getting hosed by a ref in kiddie soccer (if they even remember) Agreed. Not to go off topic too far, but why does every child sport need to be organized with teams, and uniforms, and referees, and standings? Can't kids just go play ball on their own if they want to? I didn't play soccer or little league until I was 10. Now you have three year olds chasing balls around. It seems kind of pointless to me.
  25. Agreed. Most good hitters tend to walk more as their careers progress. I doubt Braun will ever be a 100BB per season guy but he will improve his percentage. Pujols walk totals his first five years: 69, 72, 79, 84, 97 - all in about 590ABs.
