  1. Just curious why you say that when the guy hasn't even taken the field yet?
  2. I didn't think they were really banned at all until McGwire's andro deal came to light. I could be way off though.
  3. I realize this will open up a gigantic can of worms, but did he really cheat? Steroids weren't banned during his stretch of superhuman years.
  4. There was an article in USA Today this morning about Bob Feller. He struck out 15 in one game his rookie year.....when he was 17 years old. He played the summer between his junior and senior years in high school.
  5. Anyone know how to look up the best rookie year of all time on Baseball Reference? Or if Jayson Stark or someone if his ilk has ever written a column that someone knows about that would be cool too.
  6. There are dogs that can 'smell' cancer in patients sometimes weeks before it can be detected by traditional methods.
  7. Then either you hung out with a really bizarre crowd or I led a sheltered life because when I was in high school and college I barely knew anyone that smoked weed on a regular basis much less anything harsher (and I knew one person with an eating disorder before age 27). And it's not like I sat in my dorm room studying on the weekends either - I drank quite a bit. By 'definition' I probably was a 'binge' drinker. Big deal. I never missed class because of it, never got in trouble, and didn't become an alcoholic. There's a big difference between experimentation (which is what most college kids do) and full blown addiction/habit.
  8. Wow, I wanna party with you!
  9. Rob Neyer did an article on how the prospects in these mid season deadline/pennant race deals ended up doing and with just a few exceptions, most did relatively little. Sure there are examples like Johns Smoltz, but on the whole they usually end up as average at best. At this point, it appears Doug gave up quite a bit, but I think this is a day we've all kind of looked forward to: where the Brewers are the ones getting guys at the deadline instead of trading pending free agents for nuggets. It's a sign that the Brewers are good.
  10. I really think that Garrison is going to be a good pitcher some day. He's been really good lately at BC and is only 20 years old.
  11. You mean way too ripped for his height? I dunno....I've seen plenty of little guys at the gym that were just as big. I doubt all of them were on the juice. It is possible to get big without them.
  12. Across the river from the stadium is Newport which has a bunch of bars and stuff. As for places to eat, I second Skyline - kinda like Real Chili in Milwaukee but a little better, IMO. If you like ribs there's a place on the river not far from the stadium called Montgomery Inn.
  13. Wow. Does that automatically mean 'roids? EDIT: Actually, I think it would be a different violation if it was steriods. I hope he can find the help he needs although I often wonder why people take up drugs in the first place.
  14. Cause of this disease is unknown although cigarette smoking (not second hand smoke) has been identified as a risk factor. I'd find it hard to believe that eating out 3-4 times a week in the non smoking section of a restaurant would be all that hazardous to your lungs. I always enjoyed his reviews - he really seemed to care about the Milwaukee dining scene.
  15. Rupert Murdoch?
  16. Not to mention TWIB has the greatest closing credits music in the world. If I ever get married, that's the music people will hear when I exit the church.
  17. I would have gotten Lionel in a second - there was a Dahmer piece on MSNBC last week.
  18. I was unable to watch the game today. Were Weeks' hits solid?
  19. Anyone that wears his hunting camo underneath his golf shirt is ok by me. And Harrington went into the burn twice on the same hole leading to the playoff. Had Sergio made that 6 footer and won, that would have been the major story for that tournament.
  20. Garrison has really pitched well lately. I hope he achieves 'significant' prospect status by the end of the season - it' d be really ncie to have another solid pitching prospect ready by 2009.
  21. So did Sergio meltdown or did Harrington? Harrington won but he was more Van De Velde-ish than Sergio.....and I can't stand Sergio.
  22. Guy sounds like a real toolbox.
  23. I'm not normally a big terrier fan but that little guy is awesome! Looks like a little outlaw.
  24. I bet it has more to do with people loitering behind the right field bleachers waiting for a Bonds homer than just big crowds. My guess is that it probably won't be as big a deal after this series.
