  1. How about Hernan Irabarren for Sherrill? Maybe throw in someone like Ozzie Chavez or Callix Crabbe too? The Orioles would like middle infield prospects, especially if they trade Roberts, as they should. I may be willing to give up Escobar for Sherrill, but the Orioles would have to throw back something decent. I think the Rauch trade kind of set the bar for relievers.
  2. Sheesh...how many games have Inman and Garrison won for the Padres? The obsession that a few posters on this site have with continuing to look back at that trade is beyond bordering on neurotic. Now that the Brewers are a contending team, they will continue to trade prospects for proven major leaguers in an attempt to put them over the top. It just so happens it didn't work this time around, but that doesn't mean that the philosophy is flawed. Personally I like that the Brewers are now looked at as buyers. I can't wait to see the reactions of a few posters here if the Brewers trade for someone like Sabathia or Harden. You think Linebrink was expensive? Just wait. Sorry for the rant, but the continuing to long for Inman and Garrison just really bugs the heck out of me. The trade was made last year. Let it go! Follow the Brewers.

  4. It isn't that these people didn't want flood insurance, it's that they COULDN'T buy it. Flood insurance (a relatiely new concept in home owners coverage) is only available to people that live in a flood plain area that qualifies under a 50-year incident. That means if the area has flooded once in the last 50 years, you are qualified. Obviously these people on Lake Delton didn't qualify. However, I'm sure that their insurance will come through, or face a huge backlash of negative public relations.
  5. Blah, blah, blah...conversation about Will Inman, Steve Garrison and Joe Thatcher...blah, blah, blah It seems that every time the Padres are brought up, in trade talk or not, someone brings up wanting Inman, Garrison and Thatcher back. Personally, I think ALL Inman, Garrison and Thatcher talk should go in this thread, because, seeing that they are now FORMER Brewer minor league pitchers, they have NO place in the major or minor league forums. Then I can ignore this thread, and the people living in the past who post on it. Get with the times people...good teams give up minor leaguers for major league talent. It will happen again, to this team. Personally, I don't care whatsoever what Inman, Garrison and Thatcher do with San Diego's AAA team. They aren't Brewers anymore.
  6. Don Money? In all actuality, it wouldn't surprise me. The Brewers won't be happy until all those 1982 guys are back in the fold in some way. I wonder what Pete Ladd is up to?
  7. <----------- Newspaper editor This is interesting. We really have an eclectic group of posters here.
  8. I've actually done a lot of research on this subject for a news story I wrote last year, and depending on the equipment the dispatch center uses, the cell phone signal, when the GPS tracker is used, can be traced to a relatively small area (http://www.popularmechanics.com/technology/how_to/4258805.html) I would say that the technology has a much greater capability than "a few blocks" as you say. Even if she was calling from an apartment building, it would have put the police in the right neighborhood, if not at the right building. Trust me, I've seen this system in action with the local dispatch center, calling from my own personal cell phone. While it is not pin-point precise, it has the capability to get the officer extremely close to the action. I was surprised how accurate the program actually is. I admit that saying "a few yards" is probably optimistic, but had a said "a few dozen yards" it would have been very accurate. But I think calling my statement "absolutely inaccurate" is a pretty big stretch. It appears that you are quite possibly underestimating your own technology. I understand that this is a touchy issue, especially for law enforcement personnel such as yourself, but you have to admit that this is a major problem, and any lawsuit will, in fact, not only be founded, but likely successful.
  9. Every newer cellular phone is now equipped with a GPS tracking device, and every 911 dispatch center in the State of Wisconsin now has the technology to pinpoint the location of a cell call to within a few yards. Had the dispatcher taken the call seriously, a patrol officer could have been on the scene within minutes. This is going to be lawsuit city for the Madison dispatch, guaranteed. I bet they don't disregard anymore 911 calls, though.
  10. http://www.amcrc.com/somerset/amc1st.JPG For my first car, I rocked a 1983 AMC Eagle Station Wagon. One of the first 4WD cars! It was truely embarrassing to drive, but my dad had a thing for them...he owned four while I was in school. Yes, it had the wood panels I eventually saved up enough money, and bought a 1989 Chevy Blazer S-10. That was a nice car/truck. I had that up until my second year in college, when I sold it and bought a 1992 Eagle Talon AWD. Incredibly fast, sweet-looking car, but stuff seemingly broke on it every other week. I loved that car, though.

  12. Wow...Dusty going to the pen? How un-Dusty like!
  13. Wow, gamecast sucks! Apparently Salomon Torres just took a strike.
  14. Hmmm.....Riske, Mota or Turnbow in the 8th?
  15. They aren't just excahnging pleasantries.....it's a full-out pot, kettle catfight.
  16. What did the team do in 1982?
  17. Can anyone imagine what would happen if Russell gets 500 ABs this year? I say 45 HRs, 85 RBIs, .215 BA, 240 K's! What a line! In all seriousness, it's hard to have a problem with this. My only disappointment comes in that Adam Heether won't get to be the full time 3B at Nashville. I thought Brad Nelson was taking grounders at 3B too? Branyan is a left handed power hitter on a team that is predominantly right-handed. His skill set is basically exactly what Melvin had in mind for a reserve pinch hitter-type this offseason. To me, it isn't out of the realm of possibility that, if he tears up spring training, he breaks camp with the big club. Having that type of pop on you bench isn't a bad thing. Also, Russ brings veteran-ness with him.
  18. My wife and I have two dogs (Springer spaniels) and two cats. The older Springer (she's 3 years old) and the two cats are from the humane society, and the youngest dog was bought through a local breeder. The cats are fine...no problems at all with them. One plays fetch, even. I'm not really a cat person (wife said she wanted cats, I didn't, so we got cats...you know how it works), but these cats are actually pretty cool. The older Springer was an abused dog, and she had some pretty big issues when we got her. She didn't trust anyone and was pretty aggressive at first. She also had/has the propensity to bully smaller dogs. She especially doesn't like little dogs that bark at her. However, we've had her for about two years now, and she has become a terrific dog. She's a little high-strung and is stubborn at times, but is also a lot of fun to have around. She still has a few quirks, like the small dog thing, but overall she's great. We bought the pup from a breeder about a year ago, and he's been excellent ever since we got him. Was already potty trained and knew basic commands. He's a very mellow dog that loves to play. I would say that if you are looking for a quick fix, going through a breeder is a better bet. However, if you are patient, the Humane Socity can pay off, too.
  19. I wonder if Ford won the bidding war over Chevy for the right to be KITT? I would have loved to see KITT as a new Camaro. I thought that Hasselfhoff's guest appearance at the end was a little forced, but needed. I would watch regularly if the Hoff is a regular. It sounds like he's just going to make guest appearances every once in a while, though. Was Michael Caine really that busy? Couldn't they have brought him back somehow?
  20. After a night of drinking... "Makin' some keg-drop soup"
  21. Chicago (even the Peter Cetera stuff) - Its all sappy stuff, but it's nice. Kenny Rogers - Terrific voice...one of the all-time Country music greats. Weird Al Yankovic - I sometimes like his covers better than the original songs. His cover of "You're Beautiful" ("You're Pitiful") is awesome Extreme - Not even their hard stuff. "More Than Words" and "Hole in My Heart" are great songs. Creed - Yes, cheesy...but songs you can sing along with. Dave Matthews Band - Whenever I want to revisit my college days, I pop a Dave CD in, and I'm transported back to the days of stagnant weed in the air and a keg of crappy, cheap beer in the bathtub. Of course, I'm not a big alternative, unknown music guy, either. Willy Porter is about as diverse as I get. I had a buddy in college who was a Disco Buscuits fan, but I never got into them.
  22. I know we have not agreed on most things, but I think you are DEAD on here. I'm not a huge Nickelback fan. In fact, I'm pretty indifferent to them, just as I am most music I'm not a fan of. By the way some people here talk about them, you'd think Chad Kroeger kills puppies and steals ice cream from small children. They aren't a "great" band, and I don't think they try to be.They are what they are. I know when one f their songs comes on the radio, I don't mind it. I'd rather listen to that than some of the other crap they are playing on the radio now (most rap, Timbaland, Feist, Fergie and John Mayer included)
  23. Kevin Costner never builds it...becomes a millionaire selling corn for ethanol production, and eventually buys the Kansas City Royals. Paul Crewe doesn't have a change of heart and ends up throwing the game against the guards. The evil warden is elected governor, and Crewe is murdered in prison by Granville and his band of thugs. Shrek kisses Fiona, who doesn't turn into an ogre and is grossed out. Shrek and Donkey have a falling out. Kelly Leak scores the winning run on a close play at the plate, to win the city championship. The Bears let the success go to their heads, and Buttermaker is thrown in jail for indecent exposure. After Andy Dufresne crawls through 500 yards of smelly foulness, he reaches the drainage ditch, where four guards are waiting for him. The warden eventually becomes a congressman. John Coffey is set free by Tom Hanks. Hanks ends up being brought up on charges, and goes to prison for 20 years. Percy is the head guard.
  24. Has this guy seen Gamel field his position? I thought all the reports said that Angel Salome has IRod-type defensive ability behind the plate?
