  1. I know it is wrong of me, but I really enjoy good baseball fights. Jonny Gomes absolutely clocked Crisp when he was on the ground.
  2. "If you go back and look at some of the other teams that have had multiple picks in the past," said Ash, "for some reason they step out of their usual format, whether it's because of signability issues or addressing a certain position. "I think the best course of action is just do what you've always done, which is line up your board and when your turn comes, take the player that's the best. Don't try to get cute. Don't say, 'I'll take a high-risk guy here and even it out by taking a low-risk guy there.' Just draft the same way you always have. Jack's approach has been very simple: He takes the best player available with each pick." Taken from a piece of the above article, this is very good news to me. Very exciting.
  3. I was looking at the Southern League stats to check out some OPS numbers, and realized that Huntsville had the top three batters in terms of collecting extra base hits on the season. Gamel has 37 extra base knocks, LaPorta 34, and Gillespie 27. To me, those numbers are pretty stunning, especially Gamel with his batting average up in the .380 range. With Salome as a power hitting catcher, Errecart, Chapman, and others, I was wondering if the Brewers system is at the top in terms of the supply of this particular tool...
  4. The offensive level in the league has to be up a little bit more than normal, because otherwise this team should have a just ridiculous record instead of a really good one If Salome is added to the batting leaderboard (right now he misses by a few at bats), Huntsville has 5 of the top 9 guys in the league in OPS. The league may be up a tick offensively, but if you look at the league OPS leaders, it is not by much, save for the Huntsville players.
  5. Parkersburg, Iowa, a town of 1900 people was basically obliterated off the map last night. At least 5 were killed in the town, and two more in the neighboring town. Not sure if Kampman's family still resides there, but this is a story I am sure we will be hearing more of as the day progresses.
  6. You heard it here first - Jeremy Jeffress - Brewer post-season 2008 closer
  7. I love that Chewie has flawless mechanics....maybe it is simply a pre-shaven Cole Hamels.
  8. I was reading a mock draft at draysbay, and they mentioned Gillaspie as a 3rd baseman at the majors...is this realistic, or will he have to move across the diamond as you indicated? Any chance the Brewers go for Yonder Alonso, and also, does skipworth or Posey have any chance at all of slipping to 16? Edit: I just read the college thread info on Gillaspie, and am guessing you meant 3B from the getgo. I could see X being correct in that it fits the Brewers M.O.
  9. The mention of Aguilar makes me ask if we could reconsider the adopt-a-prospect idea that was mentioned last year. Aguilar was the guy I hoped to feature, and it would be nice if his excellent year was more inticately chronicled. I feel it was a mistake to not put backing behind this idea.
  10. Not sure of the reasons why he was being squeezed, or twhether it can be called a pattern, but Cuzzi was squeezing him to a ridiculous level in the 9th. Gagne was fine today, and has been all season.
  11. I would be very hesitent to draft him at that spot, especially if he has not developed a consistent secondary pitch. Not to merge threads, but a poster mentioned that the Brewers should continue what they do best (save the Gallardo pick), which is to collect power bats with a good chunk of their early selections. I am very tempted by this thought, though I agree that pitching quality and depth is a large orginizaional need. As Brewer fans we have been spoiled with meteroic rises of our recent power bats in LaPorta, Braun, and even Fielder if you reach a little further back. The patience needed for proper draft evaluation hasn't been something we have had to deal with for our offensive selections. If there were to be one selection there at 16 that would mirror our previous offensive selections in terms of possible affiliate ascention and readiness, whom would it be?
  12. This article talks about the questions seriesfinale brings up, and again stresses the possible severity of an earthquake along the New Madrid fault. http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20080419/ap_on_re_us/midwest_earthquake;_ylt=Ajnxmp6sW_77vJ65JdAVlOsXIr0F
  13. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/New_Madrid_Seismic_Zone I am sure many are aware of this, but there is actually a better chance of an 8.0 (which would be absolutley catastrophic) happening in the midwest than in California. The New Madrid fault, which is not too far from this epicenter, is a very scary thing.
  14. The youngster in my avatar is hitting .123 with 8 errors in 11 games. Get better please.
  15. Please keep "full lineup posts" in the designated lineup thread. Thanks! Actually, the commentary about Weeks being misplaced in the lineup is a very salient point in this thread, as it is in direct reference to a reason why Weeks' production may be compromised. Despite his obp skills, I also agree that seeing Weeks as a leadoff hitter still pains me. He also strikes me more as a middle of the lineup hitter. Having Hart at the top of the lineup worked well last year, revisiting it is certainly a possibility. Weeks' defense bugs me more than his offensive inconsistancies, as his footwork just does not seem to be improving. Range is largely about proper footwork. Weeks' occaional rediculous defensive range is solely due to his athletic abilities. On the very next play, Weeks may not get to a ball that 90% of defenders should get, due to stepping in the wrong direction or taking the wrong angle. At this stage, Weeks simply needs to be improving his reactions and making the correct read with his feet consistantly.
  16. A google search shoes that the extremely missed batman is still doing his thing at Marquette High School (or whatever it prefers to be called).
  17. "Looks like I am about to get me some Turnbow. Yum Yum."
  18. http://sports.yahoo.com/mlb/news;_ylt=Aj8y6ywfcpRAu1WX3SWzAqIRvLYF?slug=ti-davisdbacks040908&prov=yhoo&type=lgns Very nice article on Doug and his last start before his treatment....
  19. Sarfate was on baseball tonight earlier, and they did a little bit on him, showing him being clocked at 99 mph. He had another scoreless out - has a 1.00 career WHIP now after 20 innings, with 29 k's, and has O's fans talking about him as a closer. http://forum.orioleshangout.com/forums/showthread.php?t=61558
  20. What do people mean by calling a good game. I've pitched in high school, college and amateur ball and I've always called the pitches. The catchers puts down the signs and I shake till I get what I want. Sometimes I'll have a catcher come out and tell me "this is working, this is isn't" and I'll adjust but I've never just thrown whatever the catcher puts down. It sounds like you were just a jewel to coach. If you were that much of a joy to catch you must have had some nasty stuff, otherwise you would not have made it far.
  21. The Rays having the best pitching in the AL by runs scored against, and the Mariners 75-87 record are the two things that still stand out in these projections for me.
  22. Just wondering madtown, is the purveyor of this trade information the same guy that gave you this? http://forum.brewerfan.net/viewtopic.php?t=9377
  23. It will be very interesting how this plays out through the season in regard to his availability to the DBacks. He may miss just a few weeks or he could miss the majority of the season depending on how he responds to the treatment.
  24. but the point is still that the #5 guy should be a good hitter and Ned doesn't respect that. It's almost as if #5 is an afterthought. I do not understand this comment. Over the last three seasons, in 315 at bats in the 5 spot, Hall has had 33 doubles and 12 home runs, with a .292 batting average, and slightly over a .850 OPS.
  25. Saying Curry is a one man team is not the case, as Jason Richards is a very good player that led the country in assists, and is a very capable defender. Davidson did not go undefeated in their conference at 20-0 by being completely one dimensional. They are very good, and a Davidson win could very much be a reality, even if Curry is held below his averages by Flowers.
