  1. I think Dye is really being undervalued, as he has gotten hot since the break, with 7 homers and a 1.1 OPS in the last 2 1/2 weeks. His season last year is also being forgotten, with 44 homers and over 1 OPS for the entire season. As a guy that will be a type A, I believe, I like the idea of trading parts such as Gwynn, etc, if it will be enough to acquire Dye.
  2. The Braves got a heck of a player, and will have anice switch-hitting duo in the middle of their lineup. However, I like this trade from a Texas perspective as well, as Andrus is a very nice 18 year old advanced prospect in my mind, and Harrison (who checked out with a clean shoulder apparently) is a 21 year old that was a AA all-star and will contribute next year. Salty is the wild card, as he now goes back to the area he played his college ball.
  3. Rosenthal is now reporting the deal, saying that Matt Harrison is one of the two pitching prospects.
  4. I WISH Too bad had been traded for Linbrink...instead we traded some really nice prospects.....
  5. If I am Cleveland or Detroit, I go after Ensberg hard....I think he would work well in an AL situation especially.
  6. Tough call...i cannot even tell with replay...doesn't this game seem to have an added electricity...like it is going to be a wild game in some way?
  7. Ensberg has been DFA'd I had forgotten that Ensberg had over 100 walks last year, bringing his OPS up to .858 last year, even with the low batting average. sports.yahoo.com/mlb/news...&type=lgns
  8. My spidey senses are tingling - indicating we may see a major zambrano blowup today....tensions are already a bit elevated in this game in seems. The Cubs got off to a quick 2-0 lead.
  9. Balfour significantly lowered his ERA for the season last night in his Devil Ray debut, allowing only 2 runs in his 2 innings of work.
  10. Giving up 3 minor league players to get a major league proven set up man was an absolute stone-cold lock no brainer. MikeRollins, could you please stop insulting me. Please. Really. Please, stop.
  11. Turnbow is a pretty decent comparison, as McClung can hit 98 and has an excellent curve, but has awful control, and a questionable brain. In a Sports Illustrated article on Boston I think two years ago, the Red Sox were saying that he had the best stuff they had seen all year. He looks like Pete Ladd too, for all the old-timers.
  12. Bruce Levine from ESPN1000 in Chicago has reported that the Reds have been fielding offers from the Cubs for one or both of their sluggers. Levine stated that he thought the Griffey offer was for Matt Murton and Sean Gallagher, which in my mind is not a great deal to give up. Bruce has some sources, but is also a shill, so take the rumor for what it is worth....also, the Cubs play the Reds 12 more time the rest of the year....
  13. Welch is pitching rather "satifactorily" in Brevard tonight.... One may want to tune....oh, wait
  14. Brewers will be facing the fighting Phils in a week. Edit: And according to WSCR out of Chicago, they will have the former White Sox Second Sacker.....the Phils only have to give up an A-ball reliever named Michael Dubee - basically just taking on Iguchi's contract. sports.yahoo.com/mlb/reca...22&prov=ap
  15. www.jsonline.com/story/in...?id=182950 Thought this piece from a few years ago was appropriate.
  16. beckyjean huh?....guessing becky's favorite team is the Red Sox like our friend suggesting the Braun trade.
  17. According to a report i saw yesterday (and cannot find for reference), the Brewers had to include Inman, and then add Garrison because the Brewers were in a bidding war with the Yankees. If the Yanks add Linebrink along with other free agents, like they normally do, I believe the pick they give up would be perhaps lower than a 1st rounder.
  18. With an eye towards detante, this is simply an article from the San Diego paper...nice things again are said in here about Linebrink. www.signonsandiego.com/sp...adres.html
  19. is he a jockey...that looks like a riding crop.
  20. news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20070.../death_cat The administration from this nursing home actually calls family member's before their loved ones die, because this cat can tell within 4 hours when people are going to die. Give this cat a dark cloak and sickle already.
  21. In response to the previous post, This was from this morning's jsonline: Melvin said Linebrink "took the trade hard" because of his time with San Diego and the fact his wife is due to deliver a baby in the next few days. The Padres were in Colorado and Linebrink was scheduled to return home to Austin, Texas, before joining the Brewers in St. Louis.
  22. All this posting about giving up too much is crazy I tell you, along with Gregmag and others I have about HAD IT with individuals that have different perspectives on this trade denigrating a different opinion that theirs on the trade in this manner. This thread is rife with disrespect, especially towards the contingent that follow prospects closely. Sick of it, and I think it needs to stop. And on a related note, it looks as if Linebrink will not report by Friday, and may be balking at reporting at all, based upon Melvin's statements that he is devastated by the trade, ala Junior Spivey. The fact that his wife's child may not be getting delivered till the latter part of the weekend means we will be Balfoured for a while longer, at the very least.
  23. just got off the phone from my buddy who just moved to San Diego about 6 months ago. He said people were confused and quite upset about the trade. While that may seem insignificant, it does mean that their fan base had not had a falling out with him despite his recent struggles. Just thought I would link to the 10 page Linebrink Sucks thread on a Pads website. .mbd.scout.com/mb.aspx?S=3...8&T=732956
  24. Linebrink now becomes our 4th best reliever...i am so thrilled...if you look at Linebrink's stats, his effectiveness is not there anymore. A 6.06 ERA away from Petco. Wise has been a much better pitcher this year than Linebrink. I have been a In-Melvin-I trust person, and was wrong on the Carlos Lee trade. But this trade is truly perplexing. Inman had been excellent in his last 5 starts in AA.
  25. According to the Padres boards, the Brewers gave up Inman, Garrison, and Thatcher for Linebrink....they seems like a huge amount to give up. Apparently we love guys that have over a 6 ERA on the road....I do not get this one if it is true.
