Sigh, it took an FSL all-star pitcher to do it, but Gamel's streak in done at 33. Great job though...I just had the feeling Hart and Gamel would end their steaks on the same day. -
As far as the hitting streak goes, awesome for Mat Gamel to get it off of Volstad - a guy that I was concerned about due to his great stuff. People can keep this comment in the archives to throw back in my face down the line, but I fully expect 6-7 Manatee position players to be in the majors at some point.

I just want to note the excellent job done by the Manatee's coaching staff - holding out Gamel from the game that was rained out and suspended saved a weird situation from happening in regard to the hitting streak. Now Gamel can go for the league record 32 tonight. Personally, I do not think Gamel is getting enough attention for this...in my mind, Gamel breaking the record would have as much pull as Parra's perfect game in terms of accomplishments. -
I felt the need to bring back one of my favorite threads tonight after seeing a movie that I truly loved - Stranger Than Fiction. I loved seeing Ferrell act instead of scream and act out of control, in a movie where he very much WAS out of control. Nuanced to the hilt, his performance was lovely, and I know an actress has given an effective performance when I am a little bit in love with her in the end - which occured last with Kate Winslet (in a role where she had blue hair), and now with a heavily tatted Mrs. Dario Franchetti. I also watched Tristan and Isolde, a decent movie that was a bit ragged in the middle. The story itself, which is hugely popular in Europe is worth knowing in itself, regardless of the adaptation. Also saw Dreamgirls, which bored me to tears.

There is no such thing as bad publicity Thanks Al for pointing out my number one hated phrase. To me it is a capitafascist tripe/phrase that is spewed only by those caught with their hand in the cookie jar and try to ease their red-faceedness through hooded nihilism. But that's just me. -

Thanks Lexi, you saved me the legwork, as I was going to find out what the FSL record was. Gamel, who has been one of my favorites, may become a somewhat similar player to Blake, the man whose record he is chasing, just 5 games away.

I will be in the draft chat tonight in case people would like to chat about the draft, which I enjoy, despite the banality of Stephen A Smith....I was actually at the draft in which the Bucks got the Big Dog, and bore witness to his hideous suit that year....i was so giddy over the Vashon Lenard 2nd round pick....

I could be wrong but I dont think I am Personally, I think you are correct...Redd has regressed as a player in the last two years from a total player perspective. Redd gets myopic in crunch time. He is far from a "franchise" player, in my view, and i have been a huge supporter of his for the last 7 years. In this draft, I view Horford as a great fit for the Bucks, and wish we could somehow get up to that 3 spot to get him. Conley would be a decent choice, but I think a trade in which picks are switched around and we get Monta Ellis from the Warriors would be my first choice if Horford and Conley are out of the question and Yi is on the board at 6.

In a small sample versus lefty pitchers, Braun has 14 hits in 27 at bats, with 9 of the hits for extra bases - yes, 1 in every 3 official at bats is an extra base hit....along with 6 walks vs. only 3 strikeouts, this has resulted in a 1.810 OPS against southpaws. That would be best labelled as sick ladies and gentleman. Edit: Accuracy -
Well, according to his family member that posts here, he has mononucleosis, which I am a little stunned that they are letting him pitch through.

Actually, they gave up their own 2nd rounder for Damir Markota, as the Spurs now get that pick. The Bucks have the Rockets 2nd rounder, which is late in the 2nd round. I think the Bucks will still have a chance at Horford, as the Griz will go backcourt I think with Brewer, and the Celts have a similar player as Horford in Al Jefferson. The Hawks might do something screwy, however, and mess the whole draft up....i think they will trade their choice, but could draft backcourt as well. With Marvin and Shelden Williams, Horford is not going to happen for them.

With BJ Ryan out for the year, Capellan would be a good option for this past trading partner....Given the situation, a lower level prospect around 8-12 on their prospect list would be a decent return.
