    I remember reading an interview with Deer several years ago where he essentially said his approach to hitting instruction is "don't be like me". Which may or may not be good, depending on who you ask.

    I think I'd rather have Counsell near the top of the order instead of Cameron or Hall. Probably wouldn't make much difference, I suppose.

    Even though our starting pitching outside of Sabathia and (to some extent) Bush is questionable, we have a ton of guys who can be dominant for shorter stretches. We can throw various combinations of Gallardo, McClung, Villanueva, Parra, and Suppan out there for most of the rest of the innings and be reasonably confident that we won't give up too many runs. And that's before we get to the short relievers.

    If the Brewers don't make it to the World Series, I hope the White Sox sweep the Cubs.

    Fonzie statue melted down and cast into a robotic CC Sabathia statue before the game, which then throws out the first pitch. Or Alex Sanchez. Couldn't have had Scott Podsednik's crappy 2004 without him, and we couldn't have drafted Ryan Braun without that high draft pick.

    As happy as I am that we ended up with the wild card, I'd still prefer the old 2-division format. I'd even get rid of divisions altogether (and have the league winners go directly to the World Series), but that would be a travel/scheduling nightmare.

    Twins fans everywhere must really be laughing. Interestingly, baseball-reference has Suppan first in his "Similar Pitchers through Age 28" list.

    In the last game I was at, they played Ice Ice Baby each time Braun went down 0-2 in the count. It was weird.

    Craig Counsell? If we can specify specific versions of each player, I'll take my chances with a 1987 Paul Molitor and a 2004 Ben Sheets.

    To me, smallball is kind of like in NHL 94 when you skate down the side of the rink, then turning toward the goalie just before you reach the goal line, and tapping the puck in after skating past the goalie, except not as effective. I don't like smallball.

    Yovani Gallardo with a dodgy knee is still probably better at fielding, hitting and baserunning than most pitchers. Whether or not he could re-injure himself is a completely different question, but as far as whether or not he can do it passably, I'm sure he'll be fine.

    I think you can buy the current HD DVR at Best Buy for $170. You'll just have to call DirecTV and read off the serial # to have them activate it.
