  1. Walked more than he struckout in his college career, if I heard correctly. For a team that strikes out a ton, and had for years, that is a good thing. Not every guy in the lineup needs to swing for the fences every time up. Frelick is the opposite of Corey Ray. Todd Johnson got the job because someone else drafted Corey Ray.
  2. His scouting report says he's a slap hitter. I don't know how anyone can be excited by this pick. You're reading bad scouting reports. He is in no way a slap hitter.
  3. Frelick doesn't strikeout, he's productive, and improving. Another terrific Todd Johnson pick.
  4. If we select Ford, I hope it's as a 2B/3B. No need to ruin his speed, get him beat up, lengthen his time in the minors, and reduce his at bats per year by catching. Charlie Green has continually turned cast offs into quality catchers. The Brewers need to start talking advantage of this by stop flushing high picks on catchers. That would allow more pucks on infielders.
  5. 2nd game in a row that Korey Howell was penciled in at 3B. I love it, and hope it sticks.
  6. I suspect this trade might be up there already. Not even close. We gave up 2 serious arms in the deal. JP is 1.7 WAR this year. It's a good deal because we were desperate for offense, but it's not a steal like the Yelich deal.
  7. I was concerned that Adames was trending downward when we acquired him, and I'm a natural skeptic of any Stearns deal involving middle infielders, but I'm ecstatic with what Adames is giving us. Season altering acquisition, maybe franchise altering.
  8. Time to admit the entire 2020 offseason was a disaster. This is the last step.
  9. Unless I missed it earlier, surprised there hasn't been more speculation that Urias is about to get flipped. They sure seemed to talk about him as a super utility guy a lot to think there's a pending deal. Then again, that might be why they're trying to sell the idea. Nothing super about him in any role. I doubt there's much of a market for a dime a dozen middle infielder who fits better at 2nd.
  10. That wasn't the question. No one added the caveat that the trade needed to be successful. Phelps was a scrap heap pen arm that they got good innings out of, then flipped when his value was high for several young arms. He was literally an example of what Peavy was saying. Like I said, I'm sure there's numerous examples, I was just couldn't remember them off the top of my head. Can you think of more?
  11. Agreed, but what about 2? What if the everyday player is strikeout prone and having an unproductive season. It's a complicated deal.
  12. I'm sure there's a bunch of examples, but what are some of the examples of Stearns doing this? Phelps ... literally 9 months ago. We're years from that being a successful trade. Any successful examples?
  13. I'm sure there's a bunch of examples, but what are some of the examples of Stearns doing this successfully? The Will Smith trade was a complete dud. The Phelps trade can't be graded for years yet.
  14. In the offseason sure, but we're in the middle of the season, and we're not seeing any interesting arms on the horizon. Heck, we can't even replace Lindblom.
  15. I didn't have a chance to look and I thought there might have been some questions coming up if he could stay at short so I went for the middle ground. Although even if he was below average, it's not like Urias isn't below average either. Fair enough. I think the key takeaway is that they undoubtedly upgraded SS today both offensively and defensively from Urias and the miscellaneous depth IFs. We didn't undoubtedly do anything, because we acquired a SS who presently has a 625 OPS and a big whiff rate. Sure, he was better last year, but some young players with holes in their swing peak early. I hope he becomes the guy he was in 19-20, but there's no guarantee of that. In a lineup full of hitters with poor hit tools, this move doesn't feel like the right move.
  16. He starts arbitration next year, so we do not control him for several more years. He's about to become expensive, which will become a real problem if his production doesn't return. In essence the real reason your baffled is because your stretching the facts. 3 years is several more years. How is that inaccurate? It's true that he's going to get more expensive, but it's not like his price is about to skyrocket. He'll probably get what, 3-4M as a first year arby player? A few would be more accurate, less hyperbolic. His arbitration cost this year isn't a big deal, but if he continues to perform as he has this year, he'll be non-tendered before he would normally reach free agency. If he performs like last year, it's a good move, and we'll keep him through his arbitration years. Hard to project what we'll get, as both are small samples. I find it hard to believe in him as a good hitter with that whiff rate.

  18. Brewers just chasing their tail right now. Stearns has done some great things, but the senseless Grisham trade continues to absolutely haunt him. Since the deal he's spent huge money on the OF with almost no returns, SS has been a mess, and now it's ruining the bullpen. Also, had we kept Davies, we wouldn't have blown that money on Lindblom. Much of this will be forgotten if Adams hits. He better hit. A lot.
  19. Nah, they'll blame Turang for putting too much pressure on Urias and trade him too.
  20. Any chance we can re-acquire Arcia? It's time to put Urias out of his misery. Such a dumb trade born out of a dumber trade.
  21. JZ DFA today. Zimmerman is clearly washed-up. He had nothing yesterday. 56 pitches/25 balls 5 hits two walks and 5 ERs. My guess is he retires today. You're right, he has nothing left. It was still cool to have him finally play for the Brewers.
  22. So, I'm assuming the Brewers replace Bettinger and Zimmerman on the roster tomorrow. Is Sobotko the only pitcher option left on the 40? Who's next to add to the 40 and 26? Clayton Andrew's? Or do we just go with less pitchers for awhile by activating OFs?
  23. David Stearns has done a great job as GM, but his belief in Luis Urias could be his undoing. The following chain of events, including the signing of Garcia, continue to be harmful.
  24. I was thinking the same exact thing. Strikeouts here are BIG, and Williams is that guy. Would suck when we need him later, but we have to play this in the moment. An inexcusable mistake. Williams was made for this situation. We needed strikeouts.
  25. Some of us were too disgusted to share our opinion. Grisham is everything we needed going forward.
