  1. Wow, this is uninformed hate. Entering the 2017 season, Vogt had caught 32% of base stealers. He spent the offseason working to fix some mechanical flaws he had developed. Sure, he has a weak arm, but that's only 1 factor in pop times. Footwork and transfer are also huge factors. It's reasonable that Vogt could return to being an average throwing catcher, and that player should be a heck of an addition to this team.
  2. He also gunned down a steal attempt, a very positive sign for him.
  3. I'm huge give believer in Derek Johnson, but if he's genius enough to convert Wade Miley from hot garbage to a quality starting pitcher, then he should probably be given a stake in the organization.
  4. The defense is a big question mark for Dubon. He struggled with it in spring training, and already has 6 errors in AAA. Offensively, he's drawn just one walk. Sogard is a problem, but the answer isn't in the organization yet.
  5. The rotation is 5th in the majors in ERA. Despite all the offseasons doom and gloom about the starting pitching, he offense remains the major weakness, and the pitching is great.
  6. Suter would dominate AA too. Forget Miley.
  7. Just say no to Miley. He's still a bad pitcher, and we have so many better options. We don't need him for depth.
  8. Perez is a nice reserve infielder, but not a nice 5th outfielder. This team needs Santana. This team should be looking to add offense, not trade it. The only way you trade Santana is in a package for an even better OF.
  9. Bunk. He has a career 4.19 ERA outside of Petco, including a career 4.23 ERA pitching at Coors Field. He's been a better pitcher (using ERA) at Comerica Park, Nationals Park, and AT&T Park. He has a sub-4.00 ERA in 12 different parks. 6.53 ERA last year away from Petco with a 851 OPS. He is absolutely a bad pitcher away from Petco. Btw, Miller park is away from Petco. Most players play better at home. Chacin is one of them. He was effective at home at Coors Field, so it's not surprising he's also effective at home at Miller Park. He's a good pitcher, who might become even more under Dereck Johnson.
  10. I don't understand why Suter needs to move to the bullpen to replace Drake. Drake is a 1 inning pitcher at most. Drake got hammered yesterday, but the bullpen is in great shape. Barnes needs work tonight regardless of score just to stay active. We don't need a long man, just a pitcher who can prevent runs in any capacity. They could cut Drake and replace him with a position player short term.
  11. I think we just saw the last of Oliver Drake. Time to take a look at Radhames Liz. He's stuck out 8 of the 13 batters he's faced at AAA. He's always a a live arm.
  12. I think Bethancourt is out of options, so they wouldn't want to bring him up for a short term gig, and then risk losing him. He's a talent, but needs playing time, after the Braves and Padres botched his development so badly.
  13. The offense needs to score some runs so we're not constantly playing extra inning games.
  14. Agreed, smart roster management. I'll predict Lopez is next, and either him or Williams gets sent out to make room for Guerra Wednesday.
  15. The team is 19th in runs scored, just like they were last year. We probably have between 8-12 MLB quality relievers in the organization. The last thing we should be looking at is trading a quality hitter for relief help.
  16. Many Brewers fans freaked out about the pitching early last year too. It ended up being the strength of the team. I'll predict it does this year too. Woodruff had some great AAA starts early last year too, but was tested as the year wore on. Maybe Burnes earns an opportunity later on, but we're a ways away from seeing him up.
  17. Yup, and Hoover pitched too. I'd bet Houser pitches once, and is then replaced by a fresh arm. I wouldn't mind the team rotating 3 pitchers with options all year.
  18. There's a post on the previous page that he tried to avoid it with the other treatment so I'd assume he has or had the injury required for TJ? The UCL wasn't completely torn, and it healed. He now likely just has elbow inflammation, and there's no surgical remedy for that. He just needs rest, and to build arm strength.
  19. Are people really suggesting TJ surgery for a player who doesn't have a torn UCL? What's the plan, cut it during surgery, then replace it? I love Hiura, but calm down people. He's no more big league ready after a big spring than Lucas Erceg was last year. How did Erceg's year turn out? Hiura had a 850 OPS in the Midwest League last year. He didn't get 4 levels better in the off season. I really hope Hiura can be another Braun, but that's asking a ton. On the Braun timeline, Hiura wouldn't see AAA this year.
  20. By essentially getting 2 days off in a row, the bullpen couldn't be more rested.
  21. Agreed. Yes, I remember watching him with the T- rats, and it was obvious he was a jerk who was hated by his teammates, but he was 19 then. He's now 28, married, child on the way, unwanted by baseball for a year. It's possible he has a new perspective. If he proves to still be arrogant and crazy, they can cut him, no harm done. He was a 15 career WAR player through age 26, he's worth a quick look.
  22. If it was smart to pull Nola early, why didn't Kapler pinch hit for Nola with runners on 1st and 3rd in the top of the inning? Nola only faced one more batter after making the last out of that inning. Further proof that Kapler has no plan.
  23. I hate that writers refer to Kapler's approach as "data driven". It's not. He's a fool. He's always been a fool. So many in the Dodgers organization celebrated when Kapler got the Philly job, they were relieved to be rid of him.
  24. I'm hoping it's Lawrie, and I'm hoping he can get to a functional mental state. He still has serious untapped baseball potential, and is just 28 years old.
