  1. Somebody needs to explain to RR that bunting prevents runs. The math is simple to understand. RR is killing our offense.
  2. Peterson doesn't even have 92 career innings, and he was below average in those limited innings. His career is over, Jeffress is just getting started, and I sure hope Rogers doesn't become the 1st pitcher in history to have his career ruined by carpal tunnel. Rogers was dominant last Septemeber in the majors. Peterson was a huge risk selection with no upside. Bando swung and missed on a bunt attempt.
  3. This is also the 1st Bruce Sied draft pick to play for the Brewers. It is impressive for Sied to already have a big leaguer. Sied has only made a few good selections, but this is definately a great one when considering the round and cheap signing bonus.
  4. Jack Z took the most signable guys too, but he still had great results. Possibly Z's greatest pick, Brett Lawrie, was a slot signing. Braun signed quickly and easily. Cory Hart signed for cheap. Gallardo, Hardy and Lucroy were slot signings, so were the 3 Z picks that were used in the Greinke deal, and Escobar was a cheap international signing by Z. Z had an even smaller international budget set by Melvin than what Bando did. The Brewers next wave, with Gindl, Schafer, and Green, were 2 slot signings and a cheap D&F. Money didn't hold Bando back, it was his complete lack of scouting and organizational skills.
  5. Marcum is a poorly conditioned athlete. Those guys don't generally age well. I wouldn't trade for young pitching though. Peralta is a stud, and Fiers is being grossly underrated. All of our drafts lately have been pitching heavy. Get a SS.
  6. What future does Mat have here? He is out of options, and this contending team won't settle for him as our 1B. Sellers doesn't need to hit as well as Gamel, he's a SS. Sellers OPS at SS will be al ot closer to average for the position than Gamel's at 1st, and Sellers is an asset defensively.
  7. If Fiers is on the roster, they must really think they needed him, as he didn't need to be added to the 40 after the season. He had a fabulous year, can't wait to see him pitch. He may be older, but his age should have an * next to it, as he missed years in colle because of injury. He has been cimpletely healthy with the Brewers, and his rate of rise has been astounding.
  8. I don't see the Brewers going with a minor leaguer at SS. I think Mat Gamel for Justin Sellers makes too much sense. Then again, maybe it doesn't, Sellers had a higher OPS in AAA this year than Gamel.
  9. If we're going to use a platoon next year, I'd rather it be a lefty killer like Jeff Baker than McGehee.
  10. I like that this is being brought back up again. The sour times make winning even sweeter. Also, it helps give credit to the real hero of the Brewers, Jack Z.
  11. Green has been awesome so far, most of his outs have been lasers at someone. Most importantly, he's earned RR's trust, a difficult thing for a young player to do. Taylor is short and slow with an average at best arm, but he is just a natural at the plate with an extremely quick bat. He seems to have a simple approach that should be pretty slump proof. He really is a perfect fit for this team going into the post season.
  12. Lawrie had a 1.076 OPS in 329 AAA plate attempts this year. Yes, Lawrie was dominant from the beginning. He is a Fielder/Braun caliber prospect, and likely would have been called up as quick as Braun was.
  13. You got your seasons mixed up, that was last year when he was coming off his 2nd surgery. The injury he suffered often takes a full year to recover from so endaround was correct in that he was coming off a long rehab process. Hamate breaks can take a full year to regain strength in the wrist. That was Green's 1st procedure. We're 3 years removed from that. The 2nd surgery was an uncommon procedure with no history to base a recovery time for.
  14. No need to be dramatic. I just don't Gamel putting in the work and having the attention to detail that Overbay did that allowed him to continue to develop in his late twenties. Similar talents, but starkly different personalities.
  15. Based on what? I'm pretty sure he has more value than that. Gamel is 26. Best case scenario is Darwin Barney, most likely is Justin Sellers. Best comp for Gamel at this point is Ross Gload or Dan Johnson.
  16. You got your seasons mixed up, that was last year when he was coming off his 2nd surgery.
  17. Lawrie would have been moved to 3rd the second Weeks signed his extension. Don't forget that Taylor Green started the season at AA, he didn't get bumped to AAA until Zealous Wheeler was injured. The Brewers believed in Lawrie more than they do Green. I love Green, but he is simply isn't in the same stratosphere as a prospect as Lawrie. The fact that Green was behind Zealous Wheeler tells us exactly what the Brewers thought of Green when the season opened.
  18. Agreed. Nothing funny about failed drug tests. I realize they want to make it memorable, but this one was just awkward.
  19. I wouldn't bet on that. I can still dream. With Weeks at 2nd, Hairston at SS, and Green at 3rd, this team might be the team to beat.
  20. Lawrie would have been called up before Green was. If the Breweers kept Lawrie, McGehee would have likely been dealt for pitching, with a stopgap playing 3rd until Lawrie was ready, which was back in May. Problem was, Melvin overvalued McGehee, while others team properly valued him, limiting his trade value. Hopefully Marcum helps us win the WS this year, then it won't bother me.
  21. And going to Philly to get curb stomped in the playoffs with Wolf as our #3 and a burnt out bullpen. Or the Brewers crush philly with an unstopable offense including Lawrie, a long with continued good starts by Greinke and Gallardo.
  22. I think one was Cutter Dykstra - who turned into Nyjer Morgan. Not 100% sure, but I think this was the case. not sure who the other pick was.Well if that is the case, I guess I would tangentially call the Linebrink (Morgan) for Thatcher/Inman/Garrison as a net win.http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/wink.gif Truthfully the Morgan deal was a salary/character dump by Washington.
  23. Its tough to say without Marcum we'd have some scrub. If we kept Lawrie, we might have dealt McGehee. Then Melvin would look smart. We could have picked up Brandon McCarthy for almost nothing, as I requested numerous times. Lawrie is a potential Braun type hitter. OK deal for Milwaukee, but a franchise changing move for Toronto.
  24. I agree that the short stride is troublesome, but that is also an easy fix, a rare mechanical adjustment that won't put him at risk of injury. I disagree about his comand. It wasn't good when he pitched his 2 worst games of the year at the end of the season, but it was pinpoint the rest of the year. It what made him absolutely dominant and incredibly efficient. I think the Brewers will tweak his stride, but do little else. He'll be well ahead of Jed Bradley, but I don't expect the Brewers to move Jungman at a haphazard pace, as that's just not their method of operation.
